Chapter 12
The Cui and Zhao families had a big fight, making the village lively for several days.
But in the end, there was no real result.
The Lin family still refused to break off the engagement.
Old Madam Zhao, on the other hand, suddenly changed her stance, claiming she never liked Cui Cuihua in the first place.
So after all the commotion, the Cui family was left humiliated on all sides.
Some villagers weren’t shy about expressing their opinions:
“She deserved it! What kind of aunt tries to steal her own niece’s fiancé? Now look, not only is her daughter not getting married, but her reputation is also ruined.”
Everyone in the village had a pretty good idea whether Cui Cuihua was pregnant or not.
Even if she wasn’t, who would want such a fool as a daughter-in-law?
Certainly not the young men.
It was obvious she only insisted on this engagement because she had feelings for Zhao Huizhou.
Why would anyone marry her?
To bring home a walking humiliation?
Cui Cuihua’s prospects in the marriage market were looking bleak.
Some village women who were friendly with Lin Erli couldn’t help but sigh.
“Old Madam Zhao is truly heartless.”
“Yeah, she’s a real piece of work. By the way, did you hear what Lin San Ya said the other day? I think she was hinting that Zhao Huizhou has someone else outside.”
“That’s exactly what she meant!”
“Wow, and yet the Zhao family is still making such a big fuss?”
“Sigh… This is getting complicated.”
Just like that, the villagers’ gossip shifted from the feud between the Zhao and Cui families to speculating about Zhao Huizhou’s supposed affair.
Did he really have someone else outside?
If so, why did he break off his engagement with the Lin family only to arrange one with the Cui family?
What?
You say he doesn’t have anyone?
Then why did he suddenly lose interest in Cui Cuihua?
Wasn’t he the one who said she was more capable than Lin Qing?
Sure, she’s a bit stupid, but her whole heart is set on him! Unlike Lin San Ya, who is delicate and spoiled.
Cui Cuihua meets all the requirements for a Zhao family daughter-in-law, doesn’t she?
So why not marry her?
Oh, so now she’s too stupid for him?
Tsk, tsk, tsk…
Got it.
Zhao Huizhou definitely has someone else.
Old Madam Zhao spent the next few days desperately trying to explain, but the more she talked, the worse it sounded.
By this point, the whole village was secretly calling her son a “Chen Shimei” heartless man who abandoned his fiancée for someone better.
But what confused everyone was why the Zhao family had to drag the Cui family into this mess.
If they wanted to break off the engagement, they could have just done it cleanly.
It was all very suspicious.
And Old Madam Zhao was getting nervous.
If people kept speculating, they might figure out the truth.
That couldn’t happen.
She had to go talk to Lin Qing and put an end to these rumors.
Whoever started them should come out and clear things up.
So, with fire and fury, Old Madam Zhao stormed over to the Lin family’s house.
Standing outside the gate, she shouted at the top of her lungs:
“Lin Dahua, get out here!”
“And that little wench who’s been slandering my son get out here too! I’ll skin you alive today, just watch!”
“I wanted to break off the engagement peacefully, but you people didn’t appreciate it! And now you’re spreading lies about my Huizhou? Do you think we’re pushovers?”
“If you don’t give me an explanation today, I’ll tear your whole family apart!”
“Ptui!”
Old Madam Zhao stood there, her beady eyes full of rage, cursing nonstop.
The Lin family, being the meek types, weren’t intimidated at all.
Inside the house, Lin Qing listened to the shouting and just smiled.
She stepped out, looked Old Madam Zhao up and down, then raised her chin arrogantly.
“I could take on ten of you.”
Old Madam Zhao: “???”
Before she could react, Lin Qing continued:
“You and I both know whether Zhao Huizhou has someone else. Don’t take us for fools.”
“You’d better warn him climbing up the social ladder isn’t as easy as he thinks.”
With that, she turned around and walked back inside.
Old Madam Zhao was stunned.
In her mind, an unmarried daughter-in-law should be eager to please her.
She should stand there and take the scolding.
Not act so wild and disrespectful.
How dare she just leave like that?
Completely ungrateful!
Old Madam Zhao’s face darkened, and she rolled up her sleeves, spitting insults in her native dialect.
The neighbors, who had come out to watch, frowned.
She was going too far this was just bullying an honest family.
Wang Lanfeng also came outside, but she couldn’t keep up in the argument.
She wasn’t good at swearing, nor did she have the loud voice to overpower Old Madam Zhao.
After a while, she was nearly driven to tears.
She had never seen such a shameless person.
Wait… What was Lin Qing doing inside?
She had gone to the backyard… and now she was coming back with a bucket of…
Oh.
Every household had one of these for fertilizing their vegetable gardens.
And last time she checked, there were no laws against throwing this stuff at people.
So why not?
Old Madam Zhao was still yelling triumphantly until she saw Lin Qing charging toward her with a bucket.
A bad feeling crept up her spine.
Everyone had one of those buckets.
“You… what are you doing?”
“You take a guess.”
Then
SPLASH!
Half a bucket of urine splattered all over Old Madam Zhao.
“AAAAAHHHHH!”
She screamed, trembling from head to toe.
She was already a small woman, but now she was hopping around like a child.
More and more villagers came out to watch, covering their mouths to stifle their laughter.
Old Madam Zhao was livid, but Lin Qing didn’t care.
“Believe it or not, I could still marry Zhao Huizhou even after dumping a bucket of piss on you.”
“…!!!”
And so began the chase.
Old Madam Zhao ran, shrieking curses.
Lin Qing followed, bucket in hand, pouring more whenever she got close.
The once-quiet village was lively again.
The villagers were delighted another great drama to watch!
Lin Dahua had just returned and caught a glimpse of Old Madam Zhao sprinting past, followed by a girl swinging a bucket.
The stench was overwhelming.
When he finally recognized the girl, he realized
Wait… Was that his daughter?!
A single bucket didn’t last long.
But Old Madam Zhao didn’t know that.
She kept running, just in case there was more.
Lin Qing chased her around the entire village before stopping.
Old Madam Zhao was left gasping for breath, crying real tears this time.
She was genuinely humiliated.
In all the decades of Upper Lin Village, no elder had ever been chased down and doused in urine.
Old Madam Zhao was officially the first.
That evening, the entire village had something to gossip about over dinner Old Madam Zhao’s grand humiliation.
So much for Lin San Ya being delicate.
The way she swung that bucket was just as fierce as Old Madam Zhao in her younger days.
Old Madam Zhao spent the whole night wailing at home, completely defeated.
Did Lin Qing suffer any consequences?
Yes.
She skipped dinner and spent the whole evening washing her hands.
Wang Lanfeng saw her daughter nearly scrubbing her skin off and felt heartbroken.
“Next time, I’ll throw it.”
Lin Qing chuckled.
“Then we’ll have to drink more water. Otherwise, we won’t have enough.”
Just then, little Lin Xia returned home.
She grabbed a ladle of water and chugged it.
“Don’t drink too much, you’ll hurt your stomach!” Wang Lanfeng scolded.
Lin Xia wiped her mouth with her sleeve.
“Don’t worry, Mom. We’ll have enough. I’ll get Erwa and Sangouzi to pee at our place too!”
Not just pee here she’d make sure they drank plenty of water beforehand.
Lin Qing: …
“Sounds good.”
After Lin Xia left, Wang Lanfeng sighed.
“Who knows if Old Madam Zhao will give up?”
Lin Qing shook her head.
“A bucket of piss won’t be enough to settle this. Let’s see what other tricks she has up her sleeve.”
