Chapter 3: Fainted Again!
“Huh?” Zhou Ye was momentarily stunned. “Fifteen. I counted. I seriously counted.”
Lu Huaishen’s voice was cold. “Including the one right in front of you.”
“Oh, right.” Zhou Ye finally reacted and followed his boss’s gaze.
When his eyes landed on the person in the hospital bed, he froze for a moment.
This girl… she actually looked pretty decent.
Zhou Ye asked, “Still not awake?”
Lu Huaishen got out of bed, put on his shoes, and walked toward the door.
Zhou Ye retracted his gaze and saw his boss heading toward the hospital room’s entrance. “Hey, Boss, where are you going?”
“Hungry. Getting food,” Lu Huaishen replied without looking back. “You stay here and keep watch.”
“Yes!”
Lu Huaishen stepped out of the hospital room and immediately noticed several people in the hallway staring at him, their expressions varied.
When he looked down, he realized his white shirt was stained with blood.
He hadn’t even noticed last night.
Seemed like he needed to change first.
He found his car parked outside the hospital, got in, and changed into a clean set of clothes.
Then, he went to eat.
On his way, he passed by the department store.
Lu Huaishen paused.
He remembered that little girl’s clothes were also covered in blood…
Pressing his lips together, he turned and walked into the department store.
…
Meanwhile, in her unconscious state, Song Yue was absorbing all of the original host’s memories.
“As long as we sell her off to the countryside, you can take her work quota. That way, you won’t have to be sent to the countryside yourself.”
“Song Yue! You blacklisted trash! Back then, your capitalist whore of a mother stole my man!
Now I’ll sell her precious daughter to an old man and let him do whatever he pleases…”
The vicious face of her stepmother, the furious screams—all of it crashed into Song Yue’s mind.
With a sharp gasp, she snapped her eyes open and bolted upright, panting heavily.
Zhou Ye, caught off guard by her sudden movement, yelped, “Whoa!”
Song Yue, still overwhelmed by the flood of memories, was oblivious to everything around her.
The original Song Yue had just graduated high school and was one month shy of turning eighteen.
Her biological mother had passed away when she was ten.
Less than six months later, her father remarried a widow who brought along a son older than Song Yue by a little over a year.
The stepmother was two-faced, sweet on the surface but malicious behind closed doors.
She and her son tormented Song Yue endlessly.
When Song Yue complained to her father, he refused to believe her and instead scolded her for being childish.
Eventually, the abuse became unbearable. Song Yue gave up seeking help and started fighting back, openly clashing with her stepmother and stepbrother.
Though she was outnumbered, she made home life miserable for them.
Enraged, her father sent her to live in the school dormitory.
At that point, Song Yue saw her father for what he was—relying on him was pointless. She had to fend for herself.
She had planned to endure until she turned eighteen. Once she did, she could inherit the job quota left by her mother, secure a stable job, and cut ties with her father and stepmother.
But—
That job quota became the very reason she lost her life.
A new policy had been issued: any unemployed and unmarried children who met the age requirement would be sent to the countryside.
Her stepbrother fit the criteria. After graduation, he never held a stable job, bouncing between odd jobs before giving up entirely.
Faced with the prospect of him being sent away, the stepmother panicked and set her sights on Song Yue’s job quota.
To get it, she had to get rid of Song Yue first.
Somehow, she and her son got involved with human traffickers.
Two days ago, her stepbrother had told her that their father wanted to take her out to eat at a state-owned restaurant.
It had been a long time since she had eaten with her father, so she happily went.
She did eat.
But on her way back, someone knocked her unconscious with a club.
And now, she was here.
“Hey!”
A loud voice snapped Song Yue back to reality.
A hand waved repeatedly in front of her face.
She looked up to see a young man with dark skin, frowning in displeasure.
“What’s with you, comrade? I’ve been talking to you, and you’re just ignoring me?”
Song Yue’s face showed a hint of apology. “Sorry, I got lost in thought. Thank you for saving me.”
Hearing that, Zhou Ye felt a little better and sat back down.
“No need to thank me. I wasn’t the one who saved you. It was—” He hesitated. “It was my boss who saved you.”
“He went out to eat and should be back soon.”
“By the way, what’s your name? Where are you from? How did you get kidnapped and brought here?”
Song Yue listened to his questions while quickly scanning her surroundings.
The peeling walls, the paper-covered windows… The hospital bed behind the young man and the familiar scent of disinfectant in the air reminded her—
She was in a hospital.
Even as she took it all in, she answered, “My name is Song Yue. I’m from Rong… Rong…”
However—
Before she could finish her sentence, her vision darkened, and she collapsed.
Zhou Ye, seeing her faint again right after waking up, panicked and shouted, “Hey! Hey! Hey!”
“Doctor!”
“Doctor!”
He ran outside as he yelled.
Just as he reached the doorway, he nearly bumped into Lu Huaishen, who had just returned.
Lu Huaishen’s face darkened. “What happened?”
Zhou Ye was flustered. “Boss, hurry and get a doctor! She just woke up and fainted again!”
Hearing the commotion, the doctor rushed over.
After a quick examination, the doctor straightened up.
Lu Huaishen asked, “What’s wrong?”
The doctor turned to look at Lu Huaishen and Zhou Ye. “Severe blood loss and malnutrition.”
“She needs proper nourishment once she wakes up.”
Zhou Ye was about to protest. This was just some random person they had saved. Why should they go out of their way to feed her well?
But before he could say anything, his boss had already replied, “Alright.”
Zhou Ye: “?!!”
Did a miracle just happen?!
The doctor left.
Lu Huaishen set down the things he had bought and turned to Zhou Ye. “What did she say when she woke up?”
“She thanked me, but I told her it was you who saved her.”
“She also told me her name.”
“She’s called Song Yue.”
Lu Huaishen’s eyebrows furrowed immediately. “Song Yue?”
That name sounded familiar!
The girl’s face was familiar, and now her name was too.
What was going on?
Zhou Ye sensed something was off. “Boss, do you know her?”
Lu Huaishen didn’t answer.
Zhou Ye suddenly recalled something. “Oh, right! Before she fainted, she also said ‘Rong… Rong…’”
“Maybe she’s from Rong City?”
Lu Huaishen took a deep breath. “We’ll ask when she wakes up.”
Just as they finished speaking, a nurse came in with an IV drip. Lu Huaishen stepped forward and said something to her.
The nurse nodded.
Afterward, Lu Huaishen and Zhou Ye left the room to wait outside.
About ten minutes later, the nurse came out and informed them that everything was done.
When they stepped back into the room—
Zhou Ye immediately noticed something.
Song Yue’s clothes had changed!
Clearly, she had just been dressed in new clothes!
So…
Was his boss really having a change of heart?!
…
Song Yue woke up again at midday.
Remembering what happened earlier, she didn’t immediately sit up. Instead, she turned her head to the side.
To her left—
Another young man was there, eyes closed, seemingly asleep.
