Chapter 14: She’s a Monster in Disguise!

At this point, Third Uncle asked, “I just heard you talk to Jiang Big Dog. It sounds like you know some pathology knowledge.”

Li Yiyi excitedly glanced at Jiang Hong, but the man had no expression on his face, not even bothering to look her way.

She snorted lightly in her heart, then continued to smile at Third Uncle, saying, “To be honest, I know a bit about medical theory, and I came here today to ask you for something. I would like to work here, is that possible?”

Third Uncle looked at her seriously, “You want to work here?”

Li Yiyi immediately nodded, “Yes.”

Third Uncle stroked his white beard, “Treating patients and prescribing medicine cannot be taken lightly. These are matters of life and death. I can’t just believe anything you say. If you really want to work here, you must pass an exam.”

“Actually, at the end of this month, there will be a medical qualification exam in the county. If you pass, you can come here whenever you want,” he continued.

Li Yiyi was so excited, “Great, I want to sign up for the exam!”

She truly believed that with her knowledge, she could pass the local medical exam.

Upon hearing her eager response, Third Uncle was a bit surprised and then smiled faintly. He turned to look at Jiang Hong and said, “Your wife is quite good. I don’t know how the villagers came up with the rumor that she’s the laziest wife in the village, but now that I see her in person, I know that rumor isn’t true.”

Jiang Hong smiled and glanced at her. He didn’t know much about the village gossip, but in the short time he had been back, he could already see how much his wife had changed.

Li Yiyi, overhearing the gossip about herself, blushed and explained with a smile, “I was indeed lazy before, but I’ve decided to live my life well. Life is long, and wasting time would be a shame.”

“Well said! As young people, we should work hard. If you pass the medical exam, you are always welcome to come work here,” Third Uncle said with a kind smile.

After sorting this out, the family of four left the health clinic.

On the way home, Jiang Hong noticed that she was still smiling, and finally asked, “Are you really sure you want to pursue this career?”

Li Yiyi replied earnestly, “Of course, I’m serious. Wait for me, I’ll pass this exam and come back with a good score.”

Jiang Hong nodded, then said, “Okay, if this is your decision, I support you. I’ll help you with the books.”

Li Yiyi had just been worried about this, but unexpectedly, he had already thought of it. “Thank you, Jiang Hong, don’t worry. While you’re home, I’ll take care of your injury and make sure it heals well.”

Jiang Hong smiled slightly at her pretty face, and softly replied, “Good, I’ll leave it to you then.”

Their comfortable conversation made Li Yiyi pause for a moment. Unconsciously, she had been getting along quite well with him.

Just then, a hurried figure approached them, accompanied by a delicate, affected voice, “Jiang Hong.”

As the person got closer, Li Yiyi immediately recognized her—it was the same woman who had tried to climb over their wall before.

Yang Tao, still as flirtatious as ever, was looking at the handsome Jiang Hong, kicking the ground with her feet and twisting her body in a coy way, “Jiang Hong, you’re back! When did you get back?”

Li Yiyi couldn’t help but hold back her laughter and looked up at the sky. She was afraid that if she kept looking at her, she might burst into laughter.

Jiang Hong politely replied, “I got back yesterday. Is there something you need?”

Yang Tao looked at him shyly and nodded, but then shook her head, “No, nothing, just came to see you, Jiang Hong. Also, Jiang Hong, you…” She suddenly stopped mid-sentence, casting a suspicious look toward Li Yiyi.

Li Yiyi caught the strange glance and immediately flashed a big smile at her.

Yang Tao, seeing this, became furious, glaring at her and muttering, “Jiang Hong, let’s go talk over there. I have something important to tell you.”

Jiang Hong’s face turned cold as he responded, “No need, we can talk here.”

Yang Tao, in a panic, grabbed her wrist a few times before stomping her foot and saying, “Fine, I’ll just say it! Jiang Hong, you need to be careful of her. She’s not your wife, she must be some monster in disguise. Your wife should’ve died a few days ago.”

Li Yiyi kept smiling, but inside, she was a bit scared by what she said, wondering if Jiang Hong might believe her.

Yang Tao, having delivered her accusation, smiled triumphantly at Li Yiyi.

Li Yiyi’s smile remained, but her heart sank as she braced herself for Jiang Hong’s reaction.

Yang Tao thought she had won, but Jiang Hong’s face turned icy as he coldly warned, “If you have a problem, I suggest you see a doctor. Don’t go around hurting others. You should be grateful that I don’t hit women, otherwise, you’d be lying in a hospital bed right now.”

Yang Tao’s triumphant expression faded as she heard this, and she quickly looked at him, her smile faltering.

Jiang Hong added with a chilling glare, “If there’s a next time, I’ll deal with whoever is with you, one by one.”

Yang Tao shuddered, unwilling to back down, but the harshness of his words made her hold back.

Jiang Hong didn’t spare her another glance, took Li Yiyi’s hand, and passed by the almost crying Yang Tao. The family of four walked off, leaving her behind.

Back at home, Li Yiyi quickly pushed Yang Tao, an irrelevant person, out of her mind.

Her focus was on the medical qualification exam at the end of the month. To have a better future, she needed to give it her all.

“Jiang Hong, wait a moment,” she called out to him as he was heading toward the backyard.

Jiang Hong raised his thick eyebrows, not happy with the tone. “What is it?”

Since she needed a favor, Li Yiyi lowered her attitude a bit, smiling and walking up to him. In a tone that was almost flattering, she asked, “You’ve been back the whole day, and I didn’t get a chance to ask how you’re doing. Can I ask how many days your family visit will last?”
