Chapter 23: Changing the Bandage
“We’ve made a profit too. What’s the difference with the color, as long as it’s wearable?” Mrs. Jiang said happily.
“Exactly! We’ve made a profit. This fabric is better than the one that Guihua bought from the supply and marketing cooperative a few days ago. She spent eight yuan and fifty cents on it! It was so expensive!” Mrs. Jiang Er also happily added.
Upon hearing this, Lin Yiyi had a sudden thought about making money in a risky way. If she ever needed money, she could get some fabric from the space supermarket and sell it on the black market. It might be a good way to make quick money, though it was very dangerous.
While the women were chatting, the men of the Jiang family weren’t idle either.
During their conversation, Jiang Hong suddenly tugged at the white shirt he was wearing and asked his two older brothers and father, “Big brother, second brother, dad, don’t you think there’s something different about me today?”
The three of them immediately looked him over from head to toe.
“You seem a bit darker than last time you came back,” Big Brother Jiang observed seriously.
Jiang Hong’s face darkened a little as he immediately turned to Second Brother Jiang. “What about you, Second Brother?”
“You’ve lost a little weight, right? Am I wrong?” Second Brother Jiang said with certainty.
Jiang Hong’s face darkened even more, and he turned to look at his father. “Dad, what do you think?”
His father took a drag on his cigarette and said, “It’s not that you’re darker, not that you’ve lost weight… you’ve gained weight!”
Jiang Hong clenched his teeth and tugged at his shirt. “No, I’m talking about this—my shirt.”
“Oh! The clothes! Still new, huh? Where did you get them? They’re pretty nice,” Second Brother Jiang reacted with a smile.
Jiang Hong’s expression brightened a little, and he proudly said, “Yiyi bought them for me. She bought two pieces and told me to wear them at home.”
Hearing his boastful tone, the three men couldn’t help but feel a bit envious. Looking at his proud face, they almost wanted to give him a good beating.
So when they returned home as a family of four, Lin Yiyi vaguely noticed that the three men from Old Jiang’s family seemed to have unpleasant expressions.
That night, just after Jiang Hong finished his bath and entered the room, he saw the woman sitting on the bed, smiling at him. His heart skipped a beat.
“Why aren’t you asleep yet? Is there something wrong?” he asked with a dry mouth.
Lin Yiyi held up the medicine she had prepared and said, “Did you forget? Your wound needs a bandage change. You need to change it regularly so it heals faster. Come here, I’ll help you.”
Jiang Hong stopped when he heard her and responded hoarsely, “No need, I’ll go to the hospital for the bandage change.”
Lin Yiyi immediately pouted, “What? You don’t trust me?”
Seeing her getting upset, Jiang Hong quickly explained, “No, I didn’t mean that. Of course I trust your skills. I just don’t want you to be too tired.”
After hearing his explanation, Lin Yiyi smiled and said, “Don’t worry, I’m not tired. Changing your bandages will save us the money from the hospital.”
“Since you don’t mind, then stop dragging it out. Come on, let me help you change it. It’s late already, so let’s get it over with and rest early,” she said, smiling as she patted the empty space next to her on the bed.
Jiang Hong took a deep breath, knowing there was no way to avoid it. He reluctantly walked over and sat down beside her.
Under her bright, starry-eyed gaze, he slowly took off his shirt, revealing his strong, muscular chest.
Although it wasn’t the first time Lin Yiyi had seen his bare chest, every time it struck her with a different visual impact.
“You don’t need to take the whole shirt off, half is enough,” she suggested, blushing.
Seeing such an attractive physique, she was afraid she might not be able to stop herself from touching him more than necessary.
Jiang Hong glanced at her flushed cheeks and smirked. It seemed that he still had some allure in her heart, which made him feel more at ease.
“Okay, I’ll listen to you,” he said, smiling as he put his shirt back on halfway.
As he turned around, Lin Yiyi couldn’t help but gently touch his cheeks, feeling how warm they were.
But soon, her attention was drawn to the wound on his back.
Seeing the scabbed-over wound, she smiled with satisfaction. The result was worth the risk she took to get the medicinal powder from the space supermarket.
“The healing’s going well, but it still needs careful care,” she said.
Jiang Hong had already noticed that his wound was slowly improving, as the pain had decreased a lot.
“I think the medicine you gave me is really effective. Where did you get it from?” he asked.
Lin Yiyi’s face immediately showed a bit of panic. Fortunately, he was facing away from her, or he would have noticed her unease.
“One time when I went to the city, I met an old Chinese medicine doctor, and I bought it from him. It’s his family’s heirloom medicinal powder. Of course, it’s effective,” she lied casually.
Jiang Hong listened without suspicion and said, “No wonder. It’s an heirloom formula, so the effect must be great.”
After the bandage change, it was time to sleep.
Although the two children were still in the big bed, just the thought of lying in the same bed with them made Lin Yiyi’s heart race uncontrollably.
In the quiet room, she could almost hear her own pounding heart.
At that moment, in the pitch-black night, Jiang Hong’s slightly hoarse voice suddenly sounded, “Wife, I want to ask you something. Are you afraid of me?”
Lin Yiyi, tensed up, froze for a moment when she heard his question. After a while, she answered, “No.”
“Then it means you don’t have any feelings for me anymore, right? You want to divorce me, don’t you?” His voice carried a hint of nervousness as he continued.
Lin Yiyi thought for a moment. She wasn’t sure about the original feelings, but for herself, it was definitely not true that she didn’t have feelings for him. Over the past few days, his actions had indeed made her feel a bit moved.
Seeing she didn’t respond, Jiang Hong got more anxious. He quickly climbed over the two children sleeping between them and pressed himself on top of her.
His deep voice soon sounded next to her ear, “I knew it, you really don’t have feelings for me anymore? You want to divorce, right?”
Lin Yiyi was startled by his voice so close to her ear. She hadn’t realized that he had climbed on top of her.
His warm breath spread across her face, making her whole body tingle.
“Can you get off me and talk? Don’t press me down,” she said, although she couldn’t see him, she reached out to push him away.
