Chapter 377: Another Group
After listening to Aunt Huang, Li Yiyi looked around in surprise. “Yueyue’s dad isn’t back yet?” As she spoke, she glanced around the living room and indeed didn’t see his tall figure anywhere.
“No, not yet. But I suppose he’ll be back soon,” Aunt Huang replied.
Li Yiyi nodded and walked over to Father Jiang and Mother Jiang. “Dad, Mom, how are you two doing here today? Are you getting used to it?”
“We’re doing great, really. I didn’t expect it to be a military district, but there are still quite a few elderly folks around. Sister Huang took me out to chat with them, and we had a really good time,” Mother Jiang said happily.
Li Yiyi could tell that Mother Jiang had genuinely enjoyed herself today. The bright smile on her face said it all.
“What about Dad?” After listening to Mother Jiang, Li Yiyi turned to look at Father Jiang, who was chatting with his grandson.
Father Jiang grinned. “I’m good too. I didn’t go out, but I redid the patch of land in the courtyard.”
As he said this, Father Jiang suddenly remembered something important. “Yiyi, see if you can go out and buy some vegetable seeds for me. Any kind will do.”
Li Yiyi nodded and made a mental note. “Sure, Dad. Don’t worry, I’ll go look into it tomorrow.”
“Alright, just don’t forget,” Father Jiang responded.
About ten minutes after she got home, Jiang Hong also returned.
When he walked in and saw that everyone else was already home, he was the only one missing. He explained, “I’ve been away from here for a while, so a lot of things piled up. I’ve been pretty busy.”
Then he turned to Aunt Huang and the others and added, “Next time I’m late, you all don’t need to wait for me. Just go ahead and eat.”
“It’s okay. We didn’t wait long. Go wash up, and dinner will be ready,” Mother Jiang said.
Jiang Hong smiled, looking at the bustling family. The smile on his face grew wider and wider.
Soon, the whole family was seated around the dinner table, eating together.
At first, the two children talked about school.
“How are your studies going? Are you falling behind on anything?” Li Yiyi asked with concern as she helped the kids with their food.
“We understand everything the teacher is saying. Mom, don’t worry,” Jiang Yueyue replied while eating.
Jiang Zhanpeng also nodded. “Yeah, Mom. You taught us a lot of stuff at home that the teacher hasn’t even gotten to yet. I even had a test today, and I knew how to do all of it.” The little guy looked proud as he spoke.
“Alright, I believe you. Study hard. If there’s anything you don’t understand, you can ask your teacher at school, or come home and ask your dad or me,” Li Yiyi said, looking at the two siblings.
The siblings obediently responded, “Okay.”
After dinner, the family sat around chatting for another half hour. Only when the three elders started feeling sleepy did the conversation wind down.
That night, after everyone had gone to bed, Li Yiyi and Jiang Hong lay in bed together, holding each other and chatting.
Li Yiyi told her husband about the situation she noticed after getting off work today.
Jiang Hong’s brow furrowed with alertness after he heard it. “Could it be people sent by the Tanaka family again to spy on you?”
Li Yiyi stroked her chin and thought for a while before answering, “It’s possible, but I also think it could be another group. Did you forget about the Huo family? Ever since we came back from Hong Kong, they’ve been awfully quiet—like they’ve completely disappeared.”
Jiang Hong pursed his lips after hearing her words. “There’s no way to guess for sure now. Tomorrow I’ll ask a friend to catch those two and interrogate them properly. We’ll find out who sent them.”
“You have someone who can help?” Li Yiyi looked up at him in surprise.
Jiang Hong, amused by her tone, lowered his head and kissed her lips. “Wife, you’re underestimating your man. I’ve got connections everywhere. Getting a few people to help is no big deal.”
Li Yiyi listened to his slightly boastful words, her lips curling into a smile. “Yes, yes, I’ve clearly underestimated you. My apologies—you’re the most amazing.”
Pleased with her words, Jiang Hong puffed out his chest. “Of course. Just wait for news tomorrow.”
They had a peaceful night’s sleep. The next morning, when Li Yiyi arrived at the hospital gate on her bicycle, she stopped and looked around. At first, she didn’t see the two familiar faces from yesterday. But after a while, the corners of her lips lifted slightly—how interesting, they’d switched to two new faces.
Since Jiang Hong had made arrangements, she didn’t pay them any more attention. She parked her bike and headed into the hospital.
Back in the department, the staff were already busy with work.
After greeting them, Li Yiyi headed straight into her office.
Just as she sat down, He Wenyin walked in holding a notebook. “Dr. Li, do you want to release appointments for today?”
Li Yiyi glanced at her schedule. Everything had been handled the day before, so today was relatively free.
“Sure, release thirty numbers,” she instructed right away.
He Wenyin beamed. “Dr. Li, if the patients who’ve been waiting for your appointments find out you’re seeing patients today, they’ll be thrilled!”
Then she remembered something. “Dr. Li, do you remember that pregnant woman who kept asking you to tell her the baby’s gender?”
Li Yiyi immediately recalled Yang Tao after the reminder.
“Yeah, I remember. What about her? Did she come back to make trouble again?” Li Yiyi asked casually.
He Wenyin shook her head. “Not exactly. She doesn’t have the guts to make a scene here. But somehow, her pregnancy seems unstable. When she came looking for you last time, she looked pretty bad.”
“She didn’t find you and heard you’d gone back to your hometown, so she didn’t come again.”
Hearing that, Li Yiyi thought for a moment, then quickly put the matter out of her mind.
Near the end of the day, He Wenyin came running into the office with excitement on her face.
“Dr. Li, big news! Did you hear? Several police officers just showed up at the hospital entrance and arrested two criminals! Right at the gate! There were knives and guns involved—it was terrifying!” she exclaimed, breathlessly reporting the dramatic scene.
