Chapter 433: Should Have Known

When Tanaka Ichiro, who had been glaring at Ito Keisuke, saw the woman walk in, he nearly spat blood from his mouth out of anger.

His eyes, filled with an intent to devour, fixed on Li Yiyi, who entered uninvited. “Li, what are you doing here? Get out! You’re not welcome here!”

Li Yiyi laughed loudly, unfazed by his glare, and walked over to his bedside. “Mr. Tanaka, why so angry? Be careful of your health. By the way, how was your night last night? Comfortable, wasn’t it? But even if it was comfortable, you should take it easy. At your age, if you overdo it, you’ll end up exhausting yourself and regret it.”

Tanaka Ichiro, after hearing her words, glared at her with eyes as wide as saucers, fuming. As he recalled his reckless actions last night, he wanted to deafen everyone around him.

“Don’t get so angry, Mr. Tanaka. If you keep up with that temper, you might burst your blood vessels and die from the drug,” Li Yiyi said, feigning concern.

“You knew that the drug was no good, didn’t you? You made me take it on purpose, didn’t you?” Tanaka Ichiro took a deep breath and, with a murderous look, stared at her.

As soon as he spoke, Ito Keisuke, standing beside him, shot her a curious glance.

Li Yiyi didn’t pay much attention to the look from Ito Keisuke. She was too focused on observing Tanaka Ichiro’s current condition.

“Made you take it on purpose? Tanaka Ichiro, you’re being shameless. It’s you and your people who took the drug. We haven’t even come to you for this yet, and now you’re blaming me? Ridiculous,” Li Yiyi said, coldly looking at him with a sneer.

Although she hadn’t checked his pulse, from his complexion and breathing, it was clear that Tanaka Ichiro’s body had taken significant damage.

“You brought this on yourself. It’s like heaven gave you a way, but you didn’t take it, and now you’re headed straight for hell. It seems your fate is near,” she said, clapping her hands and giving a cold laugh. “I was going to enjoy the show, but now, watching a dying man’s last moments is beneath me.”

With that, she turned and walked out of the room, leaving behind the speechless Tanaka Ichiro, who was terrified by her words. His face turned pale as he yelled at her retreating back, “Li Yiyi! What do you mean by that? Don’t go! Explain yourself!”

Li Yiyi, hearing his shouts from behind, slowly curved her lips into a smug smile, but didn’t stop walking. She continued on her way.

Left alone in the room, Tanaka Ichiro stared at the door, his face pale, and after a while, he turned to Ito Keisuke and shouted, “Professor Ito, check my body! Hurry!”

Ito Keisuke, hearing his request, looked troubled. “Mr. Tanaka, I’m sorry, I’m not a doctor. I can’t examine you. Should I go get a doctor from here to check you out?”

At this point, Tanaka Ichiro was too desperate to care about the details. He immediately remembered that Li Yiyi was a doctor at this hospital. After hearing her words, he figured she must know what was going on with his body.

“Yes, yes, go find the doctor here! I want Li Yiyi to be my primary physician! Go to the director and tell them I want her!” Tanaka Ichiro urgently ordered.

Ito Keisuke, however, had another pressing matter on his mind. He didn’t leave immediately. “Mr. Tanaka, you just mentioned that the woman, Li Yiyi… is she the one who discovered the nematode?”

Tanaka Ichiro’s brain went blank when he heard the name Li Yiyi. He cursed loudly, his mind spiraling into anger. “Yes, that’s her! She’s the one who’s always ruining my plans! Don’t be fooled by the fact that she’s just a woman—she’s got quite the ability. So many of my schemes have failed because of her!”

Ito Keisuke, upon hearing this, smiled with interest. “So she really is that Li Yiyi… I didn’t expect to meet her so soon.”

Tanaka Ichiro was irritated by his strange comment. He furrowed his brow and snapped at him. “Ito Keisuke, did you hear what I said? Go to the director and tell them I want Li Yiyi to treat me! Get moving!”

Ito Keisuke nodded expressionlessly and left the room without a word.

As he left, the researchers from the lab quietly followed behind him, leaving the room as well.

By the time Li Yiyi had left the hospital, she was unaware of the chaos happening with Tanaka Ichiro.

She had already ridden her bicycle toward the residential area. By the time she arrived, the sun was setting, and as she pushed her bike into the compound, the smell of home-cooked food immediately filled her senses.

The courtyard was alive with the sounds of children playing, laughing, and crying, along with adults scolding their mischievous kids.

Li Yiyi smiled as she listened to the familiar noises, continuing toward her home. Just as she neared the door, she ran into Jia Chunhua, who was holding her eldest son’s ear.

“Aunt Yiyi, help!” Dabao, seeing Li Yiyi pushing her bike home, immediately shouted.

Li Yiyi glanced at the mother and son, who looked like enemies, and chuckled softly. “What’s going on? Did Dabao get into trouble again?”

Jia Chunhua glared at her eldest son, angered as she complained to her friend. “This little brat went climbing a tree today. I saw him, and he climbed so high! I was scared out of my mind. My legs are still shaking!”

Dabao, clearly unsatisfied with his mother’s scolding, tried to defend himself. “Mom, you’re underestimating me! I’m great at climbing trees! If you hadn’t been yelling at me from below, I could’ve gone even higher! I told my buddies I could reach the top, but you embarrassed me in front of them!”

Jia Chunhua, furious at his defiance, raised her other hand and slapped the top of his head. “You think you’re right? You’re lucky I called you down! Don’t you realize I was saving your life? It’s so high up—what if you fell? You could have died!”

“I wouldn’t have fallen!” Dabao persisted, his defiance unchanged.

Jia Chunhua, looking at her stubborn son, felt a headache coming on.
