“Aren’t you mad at us?” Aunt Huang asked, somewhat incredulously.

Li Yiyi couldn’t help but laugh, “Why would I be mad at you? You went to gather herbs to pass the time, which is fine. Climbing the mountain is good exercise. But I do have one condition: you must not go deep into the mountain. Stay around the edges—that’s the most important thing.”

Seeing that she wasn’t angry, the three elderly faces all broke into happy smiles. They immediately promised that they wouldn’t go further into the mountain.

Actually, Li Yiyi had another reason for not stopping the elderly people from gathering herbs.

That reason was that after staying in the military district for so long, Father Jiang and Mother Jiang had begun to feel homesick.

Not long after, a tall figure, looking weary, walked into the room.

“You’re back! Why so late? Have you eaten?” When she saw the man walk in, she quickly put the documents down, got off the bed, and walked over to him, concerned.

Jiang Hong took her hand. “Wife, you’re still awake? Were you waiting for me to come back?”

Li Yiyi smiled and looked at him, answering, “You guessed right. I was indeed waiting for you to come back.”

Jiang Hong’s heart lifted at her words. Knowing that his wife was thinking of him made any man feel happy.

But before he could fully enjoy the moment, the next words she spoke deflated his little pride.

“Don’t get too happy. The reason I was waiting for you is to ask about the situation at the pharmaceutical factory. How’s everything? Did the fish bite?” she said, smiling.

Jiang Hong sighed, took a seat on a chair, then pulled her onto his lap. “You heartless person. I thought you were waiting for me because you missed me, but it turns out you were just trying to get information about the factory. You’ve really hurt my feelings.”

Li Yiyi chuckled at his words but quickly became serious. “Alright, let’s talk about the business. Is everything settled at the pharmaceutical factory? Did the fish bite?”

Jiang Hong cleared his face of his mock sadness, his tone now cool and collected. “The fish did bite, and it was a big one. Wife, you might not have guessed this, but besides Country R, which has been eyeing our pharmaceutical factory, there’s another party that’s equally interested in it.”

“It’s the Huo family, right?” Li Yiyi interrupted, her voice suddenly sharp.

Jiang Hong stopped talking, his eyes full of surprise as he looked at her.

“Wife, how did you know it was the Huo family?” he asked, impressed.

Li Yiyi smiled. “Isn’t it obvious? The Huo family has always been close to Country R, and several of the medicines we’re producing are very similar to the ones they have. They’re bound to get anxious and want to come and check things out.”

Jiang Hong smiled proudly. “My wife is amazing, her analysis is spot on. Yes, it’s the Huo family and Tanaka Ichiro people. They sent people to infiltrate and steal our pharmaceutical resources. But when they tried to leave, our people caught them red-handed. Even if they have ten mouths, they won’t be able to explain themselves now.”

“Who was the person our son saw?” Li Yiyi immediately asked.

“He was from Tanaka Ichiro side. Fortunately, we caught him beforehand. According to the soldier who interrogated him, the person had been holding a grudge against our son for ruining his plans. He was planning to take the stuff from the pharmaceutical factory and then do something to our son.” Jiang Hong said coldly, a smirk on his face.

Li Yiyi secretly felt relieved that they had caught the man beforehand.

But she wasn’t planning to let it go. If anyone dared to harm her son, she would repay it a hundredfold, even if they hadn’t acted yet.

“Did you give orders to treat that person properly?” she asked, her tone firm.

Jiang Hong saw the fierceness in her eyes, and with a low chuckle, he squeezed her hand. “Don’t worry, wife. I’ve already given orders. I promise, this experience will be unforgettable for him for the rest of his life.”

After hearing this good news, Li Yiyi slept soundly that night.

The next morning, when she arrived at work, her colleagues at the research institute quickly noticed her good mood.

“Comrade Li, did you find money on the road today?” Professor Huang asked with a smile.

Zhou Xin, rubbing his chin thoughtfully, stared at her smiling face for a long time before commenting, “I think so. Comrade Li seems especially happy today. She must’ve found money. If I found money, I’d be as happy as she is.”

Li Yiyi laughed at their guesses. “You’re both wrong. I didn’t find money. I just heard some good news. A problem that had been troubling me for a while was solved yesterday, so I’m happy.”

Upon hearing her explanation, they didn’t ask any further but congratulated her.

With the problem off her mind and her mood lifted, she smoothly completed today’s research project.

“I didn’t expect this chromosome to need to combine with experiment number one. That’s where I was going wrong in my previous experiments. Comrade Li, you’re amazing. I really must admire you.” Professor Huang said, genuinely impressed as he watched her solve a problem that had been troubling him for days.

“Not only you, but I also admire Comrade Li. She even filled in some gaps I missed. This project I’m working on is now perfect, seamless.” Zhou Xin said, also impressed, giving Li Yiyi a thumbs-up.

“Now we don’t have to worry about these troublesome nematodes anymore,” Professor Huang said happily.

The news of the successful completion of the project soon reached Jiang Linglan’s ears.

Half an hour later, Jiang Linglan arrived at their laboratory.

“I heard you’ve developed the vaccine for the nematodes. Show me!” As soon as she entered, she eagerly looked at the three of them.
