Chapter 454: They Don’t Have the Ability
After a long day, Li Yiyi finally finished work and was ready to leave the building.
As soon as she stepped out and got on her bicycle, she spotted a tall man waiting for her by the side of the road.
She immediately got off her bike and walked over to him.
“What are you doing here?” She was surprised to see him here.
Jiang Hong glanced coldly at the building behind her, then took the bike from her hand. “It’s your first day in the wolf’s den, so naturally, I’m worried. I ended my training early to come here and pick you up. How was it? Did they bully you on your first day?”
Li Yiyi couldn’t help but laugh when she heard his comparison. “No, they don’t have that ability. But after coming here, I think it might have been worth it.”
Jiang Hong raised an eyebrow when he heard her response. Yesterday, she was upset about coming to work here, but after just one day, she had changed her tune.
“We’ll talk about it when we get home. Let’s go,” she quickly added.
Jiang Hong gave a slight nod after glancing at the building, then hopped on his bike, with Li Yiyi sitting behind him. In no time, the couple left the building.
When they got home, everyone was out except for Jiang Huijing and her husband.
When Jiang Hong saw them, he shot them a look of disdain. “Didn’t you two find a job? Why are you back? Did your boss agree to this?”
Jiang Huijing looked smug as she turned to her third brother. “Brother, lucky for you, you’re not my boss. My boss isn’t as tight-fisted as you. He said as long as we finish our work, we can arrange our own quitting times.”
Jiang Hong was surprised. “I didn’t know your boss treated you so well.”
“Of course, after all, I’ve been out working for a few years. This boss is the best one we’ve encountered.” Jiang Huijing confidently replied.
Li Yiyi walked by them, and when she heard Jiang Huijing, her steps briefly faltered, but she quickly walked into the kitchen.
Inside, the three elders were busy cooking.
Li Yiyi smiled slightly at the aroma wafting through the kitchen, rolled up her sleeves, and hurried to help with the fire.
Soon, Jiang’s mother noticed her and quickly took the firewood from her hands. “You go sit outside and wait for dinner. You don’t need to help with the kitchen work.”
“That’s right, after working all day, you’re bound to be tired. Let us three elders take care of these small tasks.” Aunt Huang also chimed in.
Before Li Yiyi could say anything, Aunt Huang had already gently pushed her out of the kitchen.
Li Yiyi looked back at Aunt Huang blocking the doorway and could only shake her head and smile before walking outside.
“Third sister-in-law, you’re here,” Jiang Huijing called out just as Li Yiyi had taken a couple of steps.
“What’s up? Need something?” Li Yiyi asked, looking at her.
Jiang Huijing smiled and nodded, then walked up to Li Yiyi and casually linked arms with her, as though they were very close.
Li Yiyi wasn’t used to this and gently pulled her arm away, stepping back and asking, “What’s the matter?”
“Actually, it’s nothing major. Recently, I’ve been having stomach pains at night. It’s so bad that I can’t sleep. I heard from mom that you have a very powerful pill. As long as you take one, it can cure any illness. Is that true? Can you give me one?” she asked, looking at Li Yiyi with expectation.
Li Yiyi’s lips curled into a cold smile. “When did mom say that?”
Jiang Huijing’s eyes briefly showed panic, and she nervously answered, “Uh, well, she said it last time when I came. What’s wrong? Can’t you help me? We’re family, you can’t just stand by and watch me suffer.”
Li Yiyi tugged at her lips, “It’s not that I can’t help, but you said we’re family, so how could I watch you suffer? I’ll have a look at your pulse and see. Just taking medicine isn’t enough, it has to be the right one for your condition.”
She reached to take Jiang Huijing’s hand, but before she could do so, Jiang Huijing quickly stepped back in fear, her face filled with panic.
Li Yiyi raised an eyebrow and gave her a half-smile, observing her.
Jiang Huijing awkwardly smiled and explained, “I… my hands are a bit dirty. How about you check my pulse another time? Just give me a pill like mom said.”
“No, I can’t just give you the pill. It has to be after a diagnosis. If you won’t let me check, I can’t give it to you,” Li Yiyi firmly rejected.
Jiang Huijing’s face immediately soured. “Sister-in-law, are you really my sister-in-law? You can’t even help with such a small thing. You’re really a great sister-in-law. Who wants your pills anyway? Fine, don’t give it to me,” she said, muttering under her breath as she walked away angrily.
Li Yiyi gave her a cold look as she left and then turned to go find the children in the living room.
Meanwhile, Jiang Huijing found her husband, Wang Fugui, who was chopping wood in the backyard.
“Did you manage to get it?” Wang Fugui stopped chopping and glanced at her, then quietly asked.
Jiang Huijing, with a dark expression, angrily replied, “No, she won’t give it to me. Can you believe that? I told her I’ve had stomach pains so bad I can’t sleep at night, but she still won’t help me. Aren’t doctors supposed to be kind-hearted? Why is her heart so cold?”
“Once we’re done with dinner, I’m telling my third brother about this. Let him see what kind of cold woman he married,” she added with frustration.
Wang Fugui frowned, looking impatient. “Alright, stop complaining. This isn’t the time to throw a tantrum. Do you still want to make big money?”
“Of course I do. If I didn’t, would I have lowered myself to beg my third sister-in-law for the pill? But I’m so angry!” Jiang Huijing pouted, feeling wronged.
