Chapter 1
1970, Autumn.
School Canteen.
“Mianmian, have you found a job?” Lin Shu Yin asked her classmate Jiang Mianmian.
Jiang Mianmian shook her head, her face filled with worry. “I’m afraid I’ll have to go to the countryside.”
“Sigh, I guess I will too.”
Lin Shu Yin was about to worry herself sick.
In this era, if you didn’t have a job, you had to go to the countryside. She didn’t want to go to the countryside!
Just then, bullet screens suddenly appeared before her eyes:
“Seriously, Lin Shu Yin, you’re better off going to the countryside. That way, you won’t meet your scumbag husband, and there won’t be any of the later events.”
“Sigh, Lin Erjie’s fate is truly tragic. Before marriage, her father didn’t love her, and her mother didn’t care for her. After marriage, her husband cheated and became abusive, and in the end, he got together with her sister Lin Shu Yi. The two of them literally drove her to death!”
Lin Shu Yin: “?”
Looking at the extra content in her mind, Lin Shu Yin realized she had transmigrated into a family drama called “The Lin Family Children.”
Just from the name, you could tell it was about the Lin family’s children.
It covered the events that happened to the Lin family over the past thirty years, from the 70s, 80s, and 90s.
Let’s talk about the Lin family. There were seven members.
Lin’s father and mother, Lin’s elder sister Lin Shu Ting, Lin’s elder brother Lin Jian Ye, the original Lin Shu Yin and her twin brother Lin Jian She, and the youngest sister Lin Shu Yi.
Lin’s father and mother both worked at the machinery factory.
Lin’s elder sister Lin Shu Ting was 22 years old, a textile worker, and already married.
Lin’s elder brother Lin Jian Ye was 20 years old, worked at the machinery factory, wasn’t married yet, but had a girlfriend. He planned to get married next year.
The original Lin Shu Yin and her twin brother Lin Jian She were 18 years old, both in their second year of high school, graduating in December.
Their younger sister Lin Shu Yi was 16 years old and in the second year of junior high.
In their family, they had two high school graduates.
Their precious son was not going to the countryside, so it had to be the original Lin Shu Yin.
The plot of the drama started at this point.
The original Lin Shu Yin didn’t want to go to the countryside. Just at this critical moment, Lin’s elder sister Lin Shu Ting introduced her to a man, Zhou Jian Guo, the son of the factory director at the textile factory where Lin’s elder sister worked.
Because the original Lin Shu Yin was pretty, she was noticed by Zhou Jian Guo when she went to visit her elder sister.
He asked Lin’s elder sister to help arrange a match.
If this happened, first, the original Lin Shu Yin and her brother wouldn’t have to worry about work. Second, they would get a bicycle for Lin’s father and mother, as well as a dowry of 500 yuan. They would also get a promotion for Lin’s elder sister and her husband, making them a team leader or something like that. It was a no-brainer.
With such a big temptation, who could refuse?
Even if the original Lin Shu Yin wasn’t willing in her heart, she would be forced to marry by her parents.
Moreover, in the eyes of everyone, this marriage was nothing bad. Zhou Jian Guo was the son of the factory director, a handsome man, two years older than the original Lin Shu Yin, 20 years old.
He was a young talent!
If you didn’t want to marry someone like him, you were simply being arrogant and snobbish.
Furthermore, marrying Zhou Jian Guo had only advantages and no disadvantages!
Her brother and her own jobs were secured, her elder sister and her husband got promoted, and her parents got a large dowry to use for her elder brother’s wedding.
How great! All the family problems were solved, so the original Lin Shu Yin got married.
For nearly seven or eight years, before the country’s reform and opening up, the original Lin Shu Yin and Zhou Jian Guo lived a pretty good life. Although they would argue sometimes, it was nothing serious.
However, after the country’s reform and opening up, in 1980, Zhou Jian Guo cheated. When the original Lin Shu Yin made a fuss, he beat her.
In the end, he got together with his sister-in-law Lin Shu Yi, and the two of them literally drove the original Lin Shu Yin to death!
What was the Lin family’s reaction to this? No reaction!
Zhou Jian Guo was a golden son-in-law. After the reform and opening up, Zhou Jian Guo started his own business and did very well.
Lin’s elder sister and her husband, and Lin’s elder brother, all relied on him for their businesses. How could they turn against him?
Lin’s father and mother also knew about this situation, so they just scolded him lightly, and finally said, “Jian Guo, Shu Yin is gone. You have to treat Shu Yi well!”
What a bunch of scumbags, sucking the original Lin Shu Yin’s blood, treating her like this.
Lin Shu Yin was filled with righteous indignation.
However, the screenwriter’s values were still correct.
Lin’s father and mother both died of illness in the end, tortured by pain until they were unrecognizable.
Lin’s elder sister and her family, and Lin’s elder brother’s family, all went bankrupt and became poor again.
Lin’s younger sister Lin Shu Yi died in a car accident with Zhou Jian Guo.
The only one who wasn’t affected should be her twin brother Lin Jian She.
Because the college entrance exam resumed in 1977, he took the exam and went to university.
After graduation, he got a job in a state-owned unit and didn’t get involved with them.
Although he was a beneficiary, compared to Lin’s elder sister, elder brother, and younger sister, he was still better, with a bit of conscience.
The original Lin Shu Yin had asked for help from her family when she was beaten by Zhou Jian Guo, but no one stood up for her. Only her brother went to beat Zhou Jian Guo.
He also suggested that the original Lin Shu Yin get a divorce, but it didn’t succeed.
“Sigh!”
Lin Shu Yin sighed. Now she was Lin Shu Yin, the second daughter of the Lin family. If she married Zhou Jian Guo, it would be in exchange for the whole family’s benefit!
She couldn’t marry him. Knowing the plot, she wouldn’t marry such a trash man. She was not the original Lin Shu Yin, who couldn’t control a man, and she wouldn’t have that kind of mentality.
Trash was trash. You couldn’t say he wasn’t trash just because he met a different person.
But if she didn’t marry, she would probably have to go to the countryside.
The bullet screens in front of her were still scrolling, saying that she was better off going to the countryside to be a peasant, enduring a few years, and taking the college entrance exam in 1977.
It was better than marrying a man like that.
Sigh, if she wanted to go to the countryside, she would have signed up long ago. She was a transmigrator, of course, she knew that she could endure a few years and then take the college entrance exam to go to university.
But it was only 1970 now. There were still seven years until 1977.
In her previous life, her family wasn’t exactly a billionaire, but they were well-off. Although her parents divorced and she lacked love, she never lacked money.
Not lacking money meant not suffering. She hadn’t even worked a summer job, let alone gone to the countryside to work.
She was not used to physical labor and didn’t know anything about farming. She couldn’t endure hardship.
It was strange. Nothing major happened to her before she transmigrated. She just went to sleep and transmigrated.
Lin Shu Yin was very depressed and frustrated, but after a few months, she felt better and accepted the fact that she had transmigrated to this world.
Then she frantically inquired and frantically looked for a job.
Just couldn’t find one. Finding a job in this era was harder than climbing to the sky.
Who knew there was this other thing? She wasn’t just transmigrating, she was transmigrating into a drama.
The situation was even worse!
Right, the bullet screens in front of her!
Did she have a golden finger?
If she had a golden finger, she wouldn’t mind going to the countryside.
“System, system, system?”
Lin Shu Yin called out in her heart several times, but there was no response.
Was the late golden finger a mute?
“System, can you give me money? Not much, just 500 yuan. Or give me rice, flour, meat, etc.? Do you have a supermarket? Do you have a space?”
“If not, find me a job, one that’s far away from the Lin family, in another place?”
“System, I see you’re so powerful, these little things shouldn’t be a problem. System, I’m waiting for your good news.”
Although the system wasn’t a person, you had to wear a hat for it and flatter it.
After Lin Shu Yin finished talking to the system in her heart, she quickly ate her lunch, went back to the dormitory to rest for a while, and continued to ponder about finding a job.
As the saying goes, it’s better to rely on yourself than others. Finding a job was still something she had to figure out herself!
What if her system only sent bullet screen prompts and couldn’t do anything else?
It was the weekend tomorrow. She would go out for a walk and look around.

It’s pretty good so far. It’s so cringey when the characters think “oh, do I have a golden finger/space/system??” and they automatically get exactly what they think of. I know a lot of authors want to quickly get through the set up and get to the meat of the story, but as a reader, I still want a smoother transition.
