Chapter 14
Lin Shu Yin thought that she needed to be more careful when dealing with Li Ting in the future, just in case she was harmed by her one day.
“Li Ting, what’s the situation?” Song Wei Wei asked when she saw Li Ting return.
They had just seen Battalion Commander Shen and Lin Shu Yin walking together from the window. As Li Ting’s good friend, Song Wei Wei naturally knew that Li Ting liked Battalion Commander Shen.
But Shen Guan Nan didn’t know that Li Ting liked him.
Li Ting, “Lin Shu Yin said that she was called by the Captain to help, and Battalion Commander Shen went to Instructor Lu’s place to drink. They came out together.”
Song Wei Wei, “I told you so. It doesn’t matter if Lin Shu Yin is a new recruit or an old soldier, Battalion Commander Shen wouldn’t possibly like her.”
“They don’t even know each other. And you have such a beautiful childhood sweetheart, why would he go and like a stranger?”
Li Ting was embarrassed, “Oh, what are you talking about?”
Song Wei Wei, “I’m telling the truth. You two are from the same place, your parents know each other, and you two have known each other since you were little. You are childhood sweethearts.”
“Hey, Li Ting, why don’t you find a time to confess to Battalion Commander Shen? Otherwise, he won’t know you like him.”
Li Ting shook her head, “No, I’ll wait until I get promoted. I’ll tell him about this after I get promoted.”
Song Wei Wei wanted to say, what if Battalion Commander Shen likes someone else during this time? Or what if another girl confesses to him and they get together?
But obviously Li Ting didn’t want to hear this, so Song Wei Wei didn’t say it.
“Okay, you decide.”
Li Ting, “Okay.”
Actually, she had already thought it through. When she got promoted, she could openly be with Shen Guan Nan. He was a cadre, and she would be a cadre too, no one would say they weren’t a good match.
They would be the golden couple of the army.
During the holidays, Lin Shu Yin was very relaxed. She either ate or slept, wishing she could make up for all the sleep she had missed.
Of course, Su Xiang Wei and Li Jin Yue were the same.
The three of them relaxed together.
Sa Ren came back the day before she went back to work, bringing a bunch of delicious food for the three of them.
“These are mutton-filled pancakes that my mom made. Two for each of you.”
“And this is milk skin, butter, try these too. I don’t know if you like them.”
“There’s also beef jerky.”
“This is fried rice. It’s amazing with milk powder and sugar. Unfortunately, my family doesn’t have any milk powder tickets.”
Sa Ren took out a bunch of delicious food from her bag like a hamster.
Su Xiang Wei, “Sa Ren, you didn’t move your entire house here, did you?”
Even if she wasn’t from Inner Mongolia, she knew that milk skin, butter, and beef jerky were precious things. They were made from meat and milk, how could they not be precious!
Sa Ren, “No, my uncle came over during the New Year and brought these for us. I just brought a little bit over for you to try.”
Except for the pancakes, she didn’t bring much of anything else, just a little bit. Half a piece of milk skin, a bottle of butter, a few pieces of beef jerky, and a small bag of fried rice. They would probably be gone after a few meals.
Lin Shu Yin, “I have milk powder tickets, let’s go out and buy a bag of milk powder next time.”
“Okay, I’ve never eaten fried rice with milk powder before.”
Sa Ren, “Actually, fried rice with urhimo is the best, but it’s hard to make urhimo in winter…”
Urhimo is the layer of cream that comes out after fresh milk is fermented. It’s very fragrant mixed with fried rice. Of course, urhimo is mainly eaten with fried rice.
“When summer comes and we have a holiday, I’ll take you to my house to try it. It’s really delicious.” Sa Ren said.
Lin Shu Yin and the other three, “Okay.”
They all liked Sa Ren, they felt she was a really nice person.
When it was time for dinner, they asked the army wives in the canteen to help heat up the mutton pancakes that Sa Ren brought back. The four of them didn’t eat the main course, they ate the pancakes and dishes.
The filling was scallion and mutton, and it was very fragrant.
Sa Ren, “Oh, you guys didn’t get to drink the mutton soup, it was so delicious.”
This year during the New Year, her parents bought a rack of lamb and a leg of lamb from the brigade to entertain guests, so she ate five kinds of meat during the New Year: pork, mutton, beef, chicken, and fish.
She was so happy.
Lin Shu Yin and the others were drooling when Sa Ren said this. Su Xiang Wei swore, “Sa Ren, we’re definitely going to your house to eat mutton this summer.”
Sa Ren, “Okay, you’re welcome to come.”
After the New Year was over, the army returned to its usual training the next day. Lin Shu Yin had already “learned” the horsehead fiddle.
Recently, she wanted to learn the erhu. Meng Jia let her play a complete horsehead fiddle piece, then let Lin Shu Yin go learn the erhu.
Meng Jia told Huang Tuan Zhang, “This kid is so talented, it’s like heaven is feeding her.”
Huang Tuan Zhang laughed, “If she’s talented, then you should cultivate her well.”
Huang Tuan Zhang also thought that Lin Shu Yin was very musically talented. She actually sang “Red Plum Blossom,” which is so difficult to sing, and she did it perfectly, without any mistakes.
She was very impressive.
A week after the New Year, Lin Shu Yin received a letter from home. After reading it, she wanted to swear.
Damn it!
The letter said that her brother, Lin Jian she, had signed up to go to the countryside, and the place he was going to was actually where she was.
Shu Yin, you and your brother are together, take good care of your brother.
This was Lin’s mother’s original words.
“Sa Ren, is your family from Sanhe Village?”
The brigade her brother signed up to go to was Sanhe Brigade. She didn’t know if it was the same place as Sa Ren’s family.
Sa Ren, “Yeah, what’s wrong?”
Lin Shu Yin, “In your area, besides your brigade, there’s no other brigade called Sanhe Brigade, right?”
Sa Ren shook her head, “No, there’s only one village called Sanhe Village in our area.”
Lin Shu Yin, “Then that’s it. My brother went to the countryside, he went to your village.”
“Why did your brother come here?” Li Jin Yue was puzzled.
Su Xiang Wei, “I guess it’s to let Shu Yin take care of her brother. They’re in the same place, they can always help each other out.”
Li Jin Yue, “That makes sense.”
Lin Shu Yin had nothing to say. Although she didn’t dislike Lin Jian she that much, she didn’t want to have much contact with him either. Could she just stay here in Hohhot for seven or eight years?
Sa Ren, “When will your brother come?”
Lin Shu Yin, “According to the date in the letter, he should be in your village now.”
Sa Ren, “He’s already there, but we can’t go out until next week when we have a holiday.”
Lin Shu Yin waved her hand, “It’s okay, he’s a grown man, he can take care of himself.”
Sa Ren, “Shu Yin, my uncle is the brigade leader of our brigade. I’ll go back and tell him next week to give your brother an easy job, like herding cows or something.”
It was still winter, the ground hadn’t thawed yet, so there wasn’t much work. But there was still work, like shoveling cow dung, sheep dung, cleaning the cow sheds, sheep sheds, and pig sheds.
In her opinion, herding cows was the most comfortable and easiest job.
Herding sheep was tiring compared to herding cows, because the sheep always run around, and you have to run with them.
Cows just eat grass leisurely, you just have to find a place to sit and watch them, so herding cows is the easiest job.
“Sa Ren, thank you.”
Lin Shu Yin immediately hugged Sa Ren.
She really liked her Mongolian friend. Although they weren’t from the same hometown or the same ethnicity, they could still talk to each other.
Sa Ren, “You’re welcome. We’re friends, if I can help, I will.”
Sa Ren was very nice, not just to Lin Shu Yin, but also to Su Xiang Wei and Li Jin Yue.
Just like last time, when they got frostbite on their hands, Sa Ren went home specially and brought them back eggplant stalks. Then she boiled water and soaked their hands and feet in it, and their frostbite healed.
