Chapter 37
Stay Away from the Protagonist and Just Enjoy the Drama
Inside the house, Yu Qingqiu suddenly felt a lingering, resentful gaze.
She turned her head and saw Tie Lanyan staring at her with an indescribable expression.
Yu Qingqiu’s temper flared instantly:
“Why are you looking at me like that?! Do I look pitiful to you?! Stop staring! Turn your head away!”
Tie Lanyan: …
With the female lead giving off this much negative energy, even a passing stray dog would probably give her a couple of kicks.
Alright, fine. Better not argue with her.
After all, the poor girl had been murdered and only came back to life two days ago.
Might as well show a little sympathy.
More importantly… this was the female lead of a novel, blessed with the protagonist’s aura.
If she got into a fight with her, what if it drained her own luck?
Since landing in this era, Tie Lanyan had always felt she was pretty fortunate.
Whether it was being gifted a farming space, stumbling upon wealth and treasure along the way, or now finding herself in a peaceful, scenic village everything had gone smoothly for her.
Now that the female lead had shown up, it was only natural for her to stay low-key.
Tie Lanyan knew herself well.
Push when you need to push, back down when you need to back down.
Adaptability that’s the key to surviving anything.
Besides, there was another “chosen one” in this house.
That’s right. The one who initially spoke up for her Han Keer was a transmigrator.
The original Han Keer had been an airhead, infatuated with the scumbag Chen Huaijin.
She fought with the female lead over him countless times, only for the real villain, Bai Yanran, to swoop in and win in the end.
Now, however, Han Keer’s body had been taken over by a modern woman who’d transmigrated into this world, and naturally, she no longer had any interest in Chen Huaijin.
But Yu Qingqiu didn’t know that.
What Yu Qingqiu hated most in her past life were the scumbag and the backstabbing friend and right after them, her constant rival, Han Keer.
So, on the very first night after being sent to the countryside, Yu Qingqiu found an excuse to pick a huge fight with her.
The transmigrator Han Keer wasn’t about to let that slide.
She was the heavens’ chosen one, after all. How dare anyone challenge her authority?
Immediately, she formed an alliance with Bai Yanran to isolate Yu Qingqiu.
Then, on the second night, they ambushed her and got into a huge brawl.
And today… today was the third night.
Tie Lanyan’s eyes sparkled.
That means… there’s going to be another showdown tonight?
She had just arrived and already stumbled upon some juicy drama.
Can’t wait!
Off to the side, Bai Yanran caught sight of Tie Lanyan’s expression and twitched her lips.
Why is this person frowning one moment and grinning foolishly the next?
She just got yelled at by Yu Qingqiu what’s there to be so happy about?
Could she be… a fool?
“Comrade, don’t blame Comrade Yu Qingqiu,” Bai Yanran said softly, smiling gently at Tie Lanyan. “She’s always had a bit of a temper. If you’re feeling wronged, you can talk to me.”
No matter what, Bai Yanran was determined to rope this fool into their camp and go against Yu Qingqiu together.
After all, who told Yu Qingqiu to act so high and mighty the moment they got sent to the countryside?
Tie Lanyan quickly waved her hands. “No, no, I’m fine.”
Bai Yanran was the perfect example of a white lotus all sweet smiles on the surface, but constantly scheming behind the scenes.
Tie Lanyan had no intention of getting involved with someone like her.
The reborn Yu Qingqiu was impulsive, the transmigrator Han Keer thought she was better than everyone else, and the local girl Bai Yanran was cunning and sly.
These three were all trouble.
Seeing Tie Lanyan brush her off, Han Keer’s face darkened.
“I can’t believe I stood up for you earlier. You’re such a coward a total pushover!”
Tie Lanyan just smiled faintly, not bothering to argue.
It was fine. Life was long she could take her time and enjoy the show.
Arguing wouldn’t cost her a single hair, so she might as well treat their barking like background noise.
With Tie Lanyan refusing to get involved, the confrontation ended as quickly as it started.
Yu Qingqiu, noticing that Tie Lanyan hadn’t sided with Bai Yanran and the others, suddenly felt a bit less angry.
“Forget it. I’ll scoot over you can sleep against the wall.”
Originally, the sleeping arrangement had Yu Qingqiu on the far left, Bai Yanran in the middle, and Han Keer on the far right.
Now that Tie Lanyan had joined, everyone had to shift to the right.
No one objected this time. After all, the new girl had to sleep somewhere.
Once they finished rearranging the bedding, the noise from outside the house grew louder.
It seemed the rest of the educated youth had returned from their afternoon labor.
Tie Lanyan quickly headed outside. Not far from the door, Hu Hao spotted her and called out:
“Comrade Tie Lanyan! Are you okay?”
He’d heard some arguing earlier and had been worried sick.
Tie Lanyan smiled. “I’m fine. Don’t worry about it.”
Hu Hao let out a long sigh. “Alright… but if anything happens, let me know. I’ll handle it.”
The poor girl looked so frail he was genuinely worried those three might bully her.
Seemed like he’d have to keep an eye on things from now on.
…
Just as Tie Lanyan stepped out of the main hall, three young men with distinct features walked toward her.
The one on the left…
He was a tough-looking man with a buzz cut, sharp, arched eyebrows, and an air of rugged masculinity.
Tie Lanyan’s mind instantly connected him to the male lead from the novel Wen Lang. Loyal, silent, the devoted type… basically the second male lead who eventually rose to the top.
The man in the middle had a gentle, refined appearance, his face adorned with a pleasant smile that made him seem quite approachable.
That must be the scumbag Chen Huaijin.
And the guy on the far right? His naturally curly hair, thick brows, and big eyes gave him a somewhat goofy expression.
No need to guess this was the novel’s ultimate simp for the female lead later on.
He even had a ridiculously funny name: Wang Juanjuan.
Because of his curly hair, Wang Juanjuan had endured a lot of side-eyes and skepticism.
If it weren’t for the fact that his uncle was the brigade leader of Osmanthus Village, his life here would’ve been pretty rough.
“Hello, comrade! You must be new here today. I’m Wang Juanjuan nice to meet you!”
Wang Juanjuan’s lively personality shone through as he enthusiastically introduced himself.
Tie Lanyan nodded politely. “Hi, I’m Tie Lanyan.”
Chen Huaijin flashed her a friendly smile. “Nice to meet you, Comrade Tie. I’m Chen Huaijin.”
“You’re from the capital, right? Your Mandarin is very standard. My uncle’s from Beijing too.”
A double move complimenting her accent while using a family connection to build rapport.
What a smooth talker. No wonder he was the novel’s resident scumbag the kind who knew exactly how to get under people’s skin.
If Tie Lanyan hadn’t read the novel, she might’ve been fooled by that charm.
Instead, she just gave a slight nod, barely acknowledging him.
Wen Lang, on the other hand, was much simpler.
All he said was, “I’m Wen Lang.”
And that was it. Conversation over.
Tie Lanyan appreciated people like him.
Dealing with straightforward folks meant less drama.
But these three were all part of the protagonist crew, and she knew better than to get too close.
All she wanted was to be a bystander, eat melons quietly enjoy her life.
Stock up supplies, make some money, and get rich in silence that was the dream!
