Chapter 20: Organizing the Bamboo House in the Space
Iron Orchid returned home, the sky was already pitch black. There was a figure lingering at the door, and when they saw her return, they hurried to greet her. It was Aunt Ma, her neighbor.
“Lanyan, why did you come back so late? I was worried sick!”
After what happened with Aunt Ma’s son in the afternoon, Iron Orchid had lost her filter for Aunt Ma. This person was saying caring words, but the smile didn’t reach her eyes, it was obviously fake.
Iron Orchid put away her usual smiling face and said flatly, “What do you want?”
Aunt Ma gave her a reproachful look.
“Oh, you child, you can’t just be concerned without a reason, we’ve been neighbors for so many years.”
“If you have nothing to say, I’ll go inside.”
Iron Orchid didn’t even bother to be polite. She had been busy running around all day, and she didn’t have the mood to deal with this.
Seeing her so cold, the smile on Aunt Ma’s face couldn’t be maintained:
“Lanyan, your brother Jian said some things you didn’t like today, don’t take it to heart. He’s just a simpleton, he doesn’t have any bad intentions.”
Iron Orchid frowned: “He knows whether he has bad intentions or not, please don’t come to my house if you have nothing to do.”
Aunt Ma’s face fell, then she suddenly thought of something. She squeezed out a stiff smile: “Lanyan, I know you’re very sad about your parents’ passing, but you can’t talk like that. Your brother Jian and I just want to care about you, maybe we’ll be family in the future, and we won’t be so distant.”
Iron Orchid was stunned: “Family?”
Aunt Ma: “Yes, you’re so young and you lost your parents, and you don’t have anyone to take care of you, your brother Jian is a good person, why don’t you consider him?”
Iron Orchid burst out laughing.
She had just dealt with Zhang Cui’s family, and now another person was eyeing her family’s property. The key was that Aunt Ma’s son, Chen Jian, had been married before, but they divorced because his wife couldn’t have children. Chen Jian had been on blind dates many times in the past two years, but Aunt Ma didn’t like any of them.
She didn’t expect to set her sights on Iron Orchid now. It was just because she was an orphan and easy to bully, so she was so brazen.
If Iron Orchid’s parents were still alive, she wouldn’t dare to say such things even if she had ten lives.
She was a typical bully who picks on the weak.
Iron Orchid realized that Aunt Ma’s previous kindness was all an act. Now, at a crucial moment, she revealed her true colors.
Just like Zhang Cui’s family, she wanted to eat her out of house and home.
Humph, she was practically begging for death!
Did she really think Iron Orchid was so easy to bully!
“No way, Chen Jian is a few years older than me, and he looks old, I wouldn’t be interested!”
Iron Orchid retorted mercilessly.
Aunt Ma’s face stiffened: “You child, you talk too harshly, my son just looks honest, he’s a good person. If you marry into my Chen family, I’ll make sure you eat and drink like a king! You can give our old Chen family a big fat grandson, stay at home and take care of the kids, how comfortable life would be.”
Iron Orchid sneered: “That’s hilarious, I’m eating and drinking like a king now, why would I marry your son? Don’t think I don’t know what you’re up to, you want to eat my family out of house and home, no way!”
This was basically tearing off the mask.
Aunt Ma’s face was ugly, but she was still pretending to explain:
“Lanyan… don’t think of us so badly… it’s not like that…”
“I don’t care what it’s like! Just don’t come to my house anymore, or don’t blame me for being rude!”
Iron Orchid slammed the gate shut.
Dealing with people like Aunt Ma, you can’t give them any face, otherwise, she’ll climb up the ladder.
Iron Orchid wasn’t afraid of her retaliation.
Come on, who’s afraid of who.
If she dared to jump around in front of her again, she would beat her up, if one beating wasn’t enough, then she would beat her up again.
Anyway, she had a reputation for being crazy, so she wasn’t afraid of getting into trouble!
In the room, Iron Orchid quickly took a shower and made herself a cup of malt milk. The sweet malt milk warmed her stomach, and her whole weary body relaxed. Today had been so tiring, but so rewarding. Iron Orchid didn’t have the energy to tidy up, so she went straight to bed and fell asleep.
Another night of good sleep.
Iron Orchid woke up early, cooked a few eggs and sweet potatoes to eat. She didn’t plan to go out today. She wanted to tidy up the bamboo house in the space.
The bamboo house had several rooms, each over a hundred square meters. Iron Orchid specifically set aside a room to store the antiques and calligraphy she had hoarded. She had hoarded so many things yesterday, they were all scattered messily on the floor.
Iron Orchid used her mind to cut some bamboo in the bamboo forest, making rows of bamboo shelves, and then she placed the hoarded items on them one by one.
After an hour, the room looked much neater and cleaner. Iron Orchid named this room “Treasure House”. She even made a paper sign and pasted it on the door, it looked quite impressive.
Next, Iron Orchid tidied up the other rooms. She needed to organize the bedroom for sleeping, she had been sleeping outside, she hadn’t slept in the space yet. She had taken a bed and bedding from Zhang Cui’s house, the bed was too small, she would make do with it for now, and make a bigger one later when she had the chance. Iron Orchid liked big beds, the kind where she could roll around without falling off.
The bedside table was also from Zhang Cui’s house, it looked half-new, it was okay. She also put in a wardrobe, a table, chairs, a thermos, and a washbasin. The empty room suddenly had half the things.
That’s it for now, she would gradually replace some of the things later, and then decorate it. Although the room looked simple, Iron Orchid still excitedly gave it a fun name: “Cozy Nest”. This was her cozy little nest, where she could sleep whenever and wherever she wanted.
Next was the study. Iron Orchid used her mind to make another row of bamboo shelves and placed the books she had collected from the scrap yard on them. She also put a few bamboo chairs and a table next to the shelves, making it convenient to sit down and read.
The study also had a name: “Book Fragrance Pavilion”, it sounded very artistic.
Then there was the storage room. She placed the grain, fruits, vegetables, and meat separately. There weren’t many things in it now, she would gradually add more later. This room was called “Delicious Pavilion”. As soon as she saw the name, Iron Orchid wanted to swallow, eat, eat, eat!
Then there was the living room, which basically had nothing in it, it was empty. So she called it “Empty Residence”.
Iron Orchid also left a room to store the original owner’s and her parents’ belongings. She gave this room a beautiful name, “Reunion Residence”.
She hoped that the original owner and her family could reunite in another world and live happily ever after.
Finally, there was the kitchen and the bathroom. Iron Orchid thought for a long time but couldn’t think of any names. She was a perfectionist, so she simply hung signs on the doors:
“Cooking Area” and “Washing Area”.
Hmm, it looked cute and perfect!
Iron Orchid tidied up bit by bit, feeling very fulfilled. This was her home. It belonged entirely to her. She was no longer afraid of being homeless and wandering.
Thank you, God, for giving her such a beautiful life. She was so satisfied, so happy!
