Chapter 56
Although they felt sorry for their children, Chinese parents would never be negligent when it came to their children’s education.
So, in the days leading up to the college entrance exam, Xue Miaoyun didn’t encounter any unreasonable parents, and everything proceeded in a tense yet orderly manner.
There had been a preliminary exam before the official college entrance exam, and many in the residential compound had not passed it. However, all eight students that Xue Miaoyun taught had passed.
“Since we all have the same exam location, I’ve arranged for a small courtyard next to the exam site to be rented. This afternoon, we’ll all head over there and rest for half a day, so we can be in the best shape for tomorrow’s exam,” Xue Miaoyun said, setting down the chalk and wiping her hands as she spoke.
This was her last class with them.
“Thank you, Teacher Xue.”
“Thank you, Teacher.”
Xue Miaoyun smiled, “Go home and prepare, bring everything you need.”
Afterward, Xue Miaoyun returned home and found Cang Ling packing things up.
“Ah Ling, are you really going with me? I can go by myself,” she said, feeling a bit awkward about the whole situation, especially when it involved being accompanied by her husband.
“This is one of the most important moments of your life. Of course, I’m going with you,” Cang Ling responded firmly. “Besides, I’ve already arranged my leave. Everyone knows I’m accompanying you to the exam. If I don’t go, won’t they laugh at me?”
Xue Miaoyun shook her head in helplessness. “This is all so strange.”
In the end, Cang Ling went with her. The army provided a transport vehicle, and Xue Miaoyun and Cang Ling drove a jeep, just the two of them.
Their exam location was at a small elementary school in a nearby county, right next to the military base.
The small courtyard had been rented by Cang Ling, and it was spacious enough for their group to fit. Cang Ling and Xue Miaoyun naturally got the best room, while the other students found places to stay. After all, they only needed to stay for two nights.
The next two days of exams went smoothly. Xue Miaoyun didn’t know how the other students did, but for the eight she taught, as long as they didn’t make any serious mistakes, they should have no problems.
After the last exam, Xue Miaoyun stepped out of the exam hall and saw Cang Ling. She smiled and ran over to him.
“Thank you for your hard work, wife.” Cang Ling didn’t ask how the exam went—he had confidence in his wife.
“I’m not tired. Thank you, Ah Ling,” Xue Miaoyun said, feeling grateful for his constant support, belief in her, and care.
Cang Ling gently stroked his wife’s soft face and leaned down. “Then tonight, you’ll have to properly thank me.”
Xue Miaoyun’s face flushed red, but being who she was, she immediately gave him a flirtatious look. “Of course, I’ll make sure you’re satisfied.”
Since there were many people around, they didn’t say more and just waited for all the exam takers to come out so they could head back to the courtyard together.
“Finally finished!” Cao Lisheng sighed in relief, feeling as if she had survived a great trial.
“I don’t think the exam content was that hard, not nearly as tough as the papers Teacher Xue gave us,” Jiang Cong said lazily, glancing at Xue Miaoyun, who was talking to Cang Ling not far away.
He looked a little disappointed.
“Yeah, it wasn’t difficult. I’m not worried about math, physics, or chemistry anymore.”
“Exactly, it felt smooth while doing the papers.”
The students from Teacher Xue’s class seemed to be in good spirits, but the others were having a harder time accepting it.
“Math wasn’t difficult? I didn’t even finish the big problems in the back. I couldn’t even understand them…” one of the boys said in disbelief.
Did they take the same exam?
“Yeah, a lot of the multiple-choice questions, I just guessed at them.”
“Yeah, me too. I didn’t understand a single question in physics.”
“And the essay, I don’t even know what I wrote.”
“…………”
When Cao Lisheng and the others heard their complaints, they exchanged glances. Was it really that difficult? Although Teacher Xue didn’t fully match the exact topic, it was close enough that they were almost ready to write until they bled.
They could practically write it with their eyes closed.
“Ugh, I couldn’t understand the history topic either…” Cao Lisheng knew better than to boast too much, as it might invite jealousy. They didn’t mind, but they didn’t want to cause trouble for Teacher Xue.
The others were sharp as well. Seeing Cao Lisheng’s expression, they immediately understood what he meant and began to echo him.
Only Jiang Cong remained indifferent.
He knew about Cang Ling’s family background. If he couldn’t even protect his wife, it would be a sign of his incompetence.
Moreover, had they forgotten that Teacher Xue was going to university too? It was highly likely she would attend one of the two best universities in the country. The next four years, or even longer, she would probably spend little time at the family compound, only coming home during the holidays. They were from completely different worlds now. What was there to be afraid of?
Xue Miaoyun clapped her hands. “Classmates, let’s head home first. We still need to check the answers and fill out college application forms. You can try to gather some information on what to pay attention to. We’ll discuss it together later.”
“Got it, Teacher.”
“Understood, Teacher Xue.”
Once they returned home, Xue Miaoyun was exhausted. “Finally done. I’m so tired.”
Cang Ling followed closely behind her. “I’ll go boil some water, you take a nice bath to relax.”
Xue Miaoyun reached out, draped her arm around Cang Ling’s neck, and stood on tiptoe to plant a kiss on him.
“Thank you, Ah Ling.”
Cang Ling’s gaze darkened. Of course, he would accept his wife’s gratitude.
“Mm.”
In the days that followed, Xue Miaoyun was busy estimating her students’ scores and guiding them through their college applications.
“…If you don’t want to become a teacher or go into medicine, don’t accept a placement in those fields,” she advised. “Our country is currently short on professionals in those areas, so you could be reassigned if you’re not careful.”
“Choose a major you truly enjoy,” she told them. “That way, you’ll have a better chance of working in a field you love.”
As for herself, Xue Miaoyun didn’t have to worry about job placement after graduation, so she simply chose what she liked best.
She applied to the Foreign Language program at B University. Her memory was sharper these days, and she had a decent aptitude for languages. Learning several foreign languages shouldn’t be too difficult.
Some might call it a lazy choice, but after experiencing a lifetime of high stress and relentless competition in her previous life, she just wanted something more relaxed this time. Wasn’t that why she hadn’t even considered applying for a medical program?
Everyone knew how demanding a doctor’s life could be.
At this point, Xue Miaoyun had conveniently forgotten her roots—she came from a long line of educators. And now, she had unknowingly pushed herself right back into that tradition.
Once all the applications were submitted, there was nothing left to do but wait for the admission notices.
“You’re finally done! I didn’t dare come to find you earlier.” An Xiaoxiao came to see Xue Miaoyun.
“I’ve been really busy. I couldn’t afford to slack off. It’s about their future, so I couldn’t be careless,” Xue Miaoyun said as she poured Xiaoxiao a glass of milk.
“Why are you giving me milk? I don’t like it,” An Xiaoxiao rejected with a grimace.
“For the baby in your belly, you should take good care of yourself.”
“How did you know I was pregnant? I only found out a few days ago.”
Xue Miaoyun smiled. “I could tell the moment I saw you.”
