1980s: The Scheming Officer Fell for Me After Reading My Mind Chapter 123

Chapter 123: I Quit, You Old Bat!

Xu Xiaoqin and Zhang Tianhua were Su Yi’s only friends in the cafeteria.

Su Yi didn’t want to just make up an excuse to get out of it, so she told them her true thoughts.

“This time, on my way back, I saw that several private restaurants had opened in Xishi, and they were all doing pretty well. I think there will be more and more restaurants on the streets in the future, and state-owned restaurants will eventually become a thing of the past.”

Zhang Tianhua also pondered for a moment before speaking, “Actually, I’ve also seen a lot of reports about private businesses opening up in the newspaper recently. It’s just that I never dared to think about it before. I didn’t expect Sister Su Yi to be so brave, you’re the first one among us to take the plunge.”

Su Yi couldn’t help but laugh, “You two are still young. If you ever feel unhappy working in the cafeteria, you can always come find me. We can work together again.”

Xu Xiaoqin, after hearing what they said, was also a little moved. “My thinking is too outdated. You’re so capable, Su Yi. Whatever you do, I believe you’ll succeed.”

“Actually, if you leave, I don’t want to stay in this cafeteria either. But this is a big decision, I can’t make up my mind right away.”

Su Yi nodded, “I understand. Don’t worry, take your time. It’s not bad staying in the cafeteria, but if you want to come out, you’re always welcome at my place.”

Xu Xiaoqin and Zhang Tianhua both nodded repeatedly.

They continued working while trying to process the news of Su Yi leaving the cafeteria.

Just a while ago, they were happily reunited, but now it had turned into a poignant parting once again.

This atmosphere persisted until noon.

After finishing lunch, the three of them had just finished tidying up when someone came to urge them.

“Chef Wang said he’s been waiting for you three. Hurry up and go over!”

Su Yi shrugged helplessly, took off her apron, and walked over.

“Let’s go and see!”

Anyway, she was about to quit, so she wasn’t afraid of any trouble he might cause.

When they arrived, the others were already there.

Upon seeing Su Yi, Chef Wang immediately taunted, “Oh, you finally decided to show up? You made so many of us wait for you three?”

Su Yi remained unfazed and casually retorted, “Chef Wang, when you sent someone to notify us to come for a meeting after finishing lunch, you didn’t specify the time, did you?”

“You’re being so vague, anyone who doesn’t know better would think you’re deliberately trying to make us uncomfortable.”

Chef Wang immediately stood up upon hearing this, “You—”

He was interrupted by Master Ma, “Alright, alright. You didn’t make it clear. In the future, you need to specify the time for meetings. The kitchen is far from here, it’s normal for Su and the others to be a bit late.”

Chef Wang was choked by this and mumbled, “It’s fine being late on the first day, but I heard Su came back to the military compound early after the New Year, but she didn’t come back to work in the cafeteria. We were already short-staffed in the cafeteria during the New Year.”

Su Yi saw that he had investigated this small matter and was still holding onto it, and couldn’t help but sneer, “You’re so concerned about me, Chef Wang. However, our leave was approved in advance, and we had agreed that the Hotpot window would be temporarily closed during the New Year. Even if I came back early, what could I do? I can’t take over your shift, can I?”

Chef Wang also sneered in response, “Who said you should take over my shift? You can’t handle the Hotpot window alone, can you? It’s just one dish, I think three people are unnecessary this year.”

Su Yi knew immediately that there was more to his words, so she asked with a smile, “Chef Wang, don’t beat around the bush. Just say what you want!”

Chef Wang saw Su Yi’s indifferent attitude and became even angrier.

He hurriedly went to Master Ma and said, “Master Ma, look, I just said a couple of things, and she’s already acting like this. How can we even hold a meeting now? How can we adjust anyone?”

Master Ma glanced at Chef Wang unhappily, “You suggested adjusting the kitchen staff, are you only targeting these three? If not, just say your demands directly. Don’t beat around the bush.”

Chef Wang sat back down resentfully, “Anyway, we’re short-staffed in the hot dishes area. We need to transfer at least two people over. I think Xu Xiaoqin and Zhang Tianhua would be good. They’ve been working on the outside for a while and have gained some experience. Let’s transfer them over to our area this year!”

Xu Xiaoqin and Zhang Tianhua looked at each other in dismay upon hearing this.

They immediately asked, “What about the Hotpot window?”

Chef Wang scoffed, “Didn’t I just say? She’s so capable, Su Yi, one person is more than enough!”

“You—” Xu Xiaoqin was about to confront him, but Su Yi quickly stopped her.

Su Yi was leaving, so she didn’t care how much she argued.

Xu Xiaoqin still needed to work in the cafeteria, so it was better to avoid any trouble.

Therefore, she gave Zhang Tianhua a signal to stop Xu Xiaoqin.

She stepped forward and said, “Chef Wang, if I heard correctly, you want to transfer both of them away from me and leave me alone to handle the Hotpot window, right?”

Chef Wang snorted, “You’re a smart one!”

As soon as these words were spoken, everyone began to whisper amongst themselves.

Everyone knew that Chef Wang didn’t like Su Yi.

But they didn’t expect him to be so blatant today, publicly isolating her on her own. It was clearly bullying her.

However, everyone was afraid of his position and didn’t dare to say anything.

They could only sympathize with Su Yi in their hearts.

Only Master Ma stood up for her, “Nonsense! Everyone saw the situation with the Hotpot window last year. How can you just transfer two people away? I don’t think it’s feasible.”

Chef Wang shrugged, “Master Ma, Su Yi hasn’t said no yet. She’s so capable, how could she publicly admit that she can’t handle it?”

He then turned to Su Yi with a smile.

Su Yi shrugged indifferently, “Chef Wang, to be honest, not only are your cooking skills lacking, but your leadership skills and character are also lacking. You’re just afraid that my culinary skills are superior to yours, so you’re trying to isolate me and give me a hard time from the very beginning of the year, aren’t you?”

“Well, I’ll be straight with you. You can transfer them away if you want, but I, your old lady, am quitting today! You can adjust things however you want!”

Chef Wang, seeing her publicly challenging his authority, stood up abruptly in anger.

He pointed his finger at Su Yi’s nose and said, “You, you, you—”

“What about me?” Su Yi spat back, “What’s the matter? I was hired through an interview, I can leave if I want. Isn’t that what you wanted?”

Chef Wang’s face turned the color of liver as he was filled with anger. His intention had been to give Su Yi a hard time at the beginning of the year.

He wanted her to be a good little worker in the kitchen.

He never expected her to suddenly explode like a bomb, publicly undermining him and quitting!
