1980s: The Scheming Officer Fell for Me After Reading My Mind Chapter 154

Chapter 154: People from the Capital

Not far away, just across the street, was the West City Train Station.

The exit was bustling with people coming out and those waiting to greet their loved ones.

Lin Shuxue, who was straining to see, was suddenly jostled unexpectedly.  She had been worried about not seeing anyone, and now, after being bumped, a hint of disdain and impatience immediately appeared on her meticulously made-up face.

“Can’t you see where you’re going?”

Lin Haonan, who was right behind her, quickly caught up, carrying his luggage. “Shuxue, slow down!”

Lin Shuxue quickly suppressed the disdain on her face, turned her head and glanced at Lin Haonan, muttering, “Second Brother, didn’t you tell Big Brother Jinchuan that we were coming? Why didn’t I see him come to pick us up?”

Lin Haonan was stunned for a moment before explaining, “No, I came here for work, not to specifically find him. Besides, he’s always busy, there’s no need to waste his time. I’ll borrow a car later and we’ll go straight to the county.”

“Go to the county? Aren’t we going directly to the army to find Big Brother Jinchuan?”

“It’s too late to go there today. Let’s settle in first, and we’ll go tomorrow. Besides, I have other things to do.”

Hearing that Zhou Jinchuan couldn’t come and that she couldn’t immediately go to find him, Lin Shuxue’s face showed an undisguised disappointment.

But she couldn’t say anything in front of her second brother.

After all, she came here just under the pretense of going out for a walk together.

If her second brother knew she was here specifically to find Zhou Jinchuan, he probably wouldn’t have brought her here.

Thinking about how she had heard from others a few days ago that Zhou Jinchuan had a girlfriend, she felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.

One after the other, they finally squeezed out of the train station and were about to borrow a car from the nearby military academy.

But Lin Haonan, who was leading the way in front, suddenly stopped.

Seeing this, Lin Shuxue, who was full of anger, followed his gaze.

She saw a woman about her age standing by the roadside, looking into the distance. The woman was tall and slender, with thick, shiny hair, fair skin like snow, and bright eyes and white teeth. Standing in the sunlight, she seemed to be glowing all over.

Lin Shuxue was startled. She hadn’t expected to see such a beautiful woman in the Northwest.

She smiled and asked, “Second Brother, do you like that girl? If you do, I’ll go ask for you.”

Lin Haonan quickly shook his head. “Nonsense. I just… I just think she looks familiar, like I’ve seen her somewhere. Don’t you have that feeling?”

Lin Shuxue laughed. “Familiar? How is that possible? Beijing is so far from here, and look at her, dressed so rustic. How could she be from Beijing?”

Lin Haonan, displeased, glanced at Lin Shuxue. “She’s just a stranger. There’s no need to be so hostile.”

Lin Shuxue was taken aback. Then she saw the woman sitting down next to her two children and quickly explained, “Second Brother, that’s not what I meant. Look, that girl is so young and already has two big children. She got married so early, isn’t that typical of country folk?”

Lin Haonan took another deep look, ready to move on.

But unexpectedly, the girl looked back at him.

Su Yi was sitting by the roadside with her two children, basking in the sun and laughing.

Suddenly, Ye Xiaowu tugged at her skirt. “Auntie, there are two people over there staring at you.”

So she looked up and saw a man and a woman looking at her.

Their eyes met, and the man apologetically nodded at her.

Though she found it strange, seeing that he was also wearing a military uniform, just like Zhou Jinchuan, she didn’t think much of it. She politely smiled and nodded back, easing the awkwardness of their eye contact.

When she looked back at the cinema, Zhou Jinchuan was already paying for movie tickets.

Su Yi quickly took the children over to him.

Lin Shuxue followed behind her, seeing her walk towards a man, she snorted and turned away.

A married woman with two children, still smiling at other men in public, what a shameless woman!

“Second Brother, let’s go! Stop looking.”

A hint of doubt crossed Lin Haonan’s mind, but he didn’t have time to figure out what was going on, so he also started to leave.

On the other side, Su Yi took the children to find Zhou Jinchuan, and the four of them entered the cinema together.

The latest releases were all romance movies. Zhou Jinchuan thought it wasn’t suitable for children, so he bought tickets for last year’s release, “Xiao Hua.”

Zhou Jinchuan hadn’t seen this movie before. He just heard the ticket seller say it was suitable for children and about family.

However, after the movie, Ye Xiaowu and Ye Nuanan were both crying their hearts out.

Ye Nuanan didn’t fully understand the story, but thinking about how the little sister in the movie had searched for so many years to find her brother, she couldn’t help but feel sad.

“How could she not recognize her own older brother?”

Su Yi’s eyes were also red, but she still smiled and comforted her, “Because the little sister was too young when they separated. It’s normal for her not to remember.”

Ye Nuanan thought for a moment, “Xiao Hua is so pitiful. I’ll always remember what my brother looks like.”

Ye Xiaowu also nodded, “Brother will always remember Nuanan too. Even if she gets lost, he won’t forget her.”

Seeing this, Zhou Jinchuan quietly pulled Su Yi’s hand and said apologetically, “I wish I hadn’t chosen this movie. Next time, we’ll watch something else.”

Su Yi understood that he was worried she would overthink things. She smiled and replied, “Actually, I think it’s quite good and touching. Even though the process was a bit bumpy, it’s good that they reunited in the end.”

Hearing her say this, Zhou Jinchuan finally nodded with relief, “You’re right.”

When they came out of the cinema, it was already completely dark outside.

Fortunately, they had already decided to stay in the city overnight, so they weren’t in a rush.

So the four of them strolled towards the Western restaurant they had seen earlier.

The restaurant had officially opened after the New Year and was decorated in a very Russian style.

Although Su Yi had eaten a lot of Western food in modern times, she hadn’t tried Russian cuisine, so she was a little confused when ordering.

Zhou Jinchuan thought she was new to it and didn’t know how to order, so he patiently helped her choose.

Borscht, potato salad, smoked ham, grilled steak, grilled lamb chops, baked bread…

Su Yi saw him keep listing dishes and quickly stopped him, “That’s too much, we won’t be able to finish it. We were snacking during the movie.”

Zhou Jinchuan saw this and smiled, “Alright, I’ll listen to you. Let’s just order this much.”

Then, he smiled and asked Su Yi, “Can I request a bottle of red wine? This is a rare opportunity.”

As soon as he finished speaking, the waiter beside them, who was responsible for taking orders, secretly covered her mouth and chuckled.

Su Yi glared at him, “Can you finish it?”

The waiter quickly spoke up, “You can take it home if you can’t finish it. Our wines are all imported from abroad. You can’t find such good wine in the entire Northwest.”

Su Yi nodded after hearing this, “Then we’ll have a bottle!”

Looking at the price on the menu, Su Yi couldn’t help but feel a little pang of pain.

But thinking about how they were rarely out for a Western meal, and they were already here.

Besides, Zhou Jinchuan was paying, he wouldn’t mind, so why should she care?
