Zhou Jinchuan originally planned to give Su Yi a heads-up, but he felt it couldn’t be explained in a couple of sentences over the phone.
He wanted to tell her in person when she came back to the compound in the afternoon.
So after lunch, he wasn’t in a hurry to go to the office and wanted to wait for her at home.
But he waited until three in the afternoon and still didn’t see her.
He started to get a little anxious, thinking something might have happened at the store, because she usually came back around this time.
So he hurriedly called the store to find Su Yi.
Su Yi answered the phone and didn’t mention the lunch incident, only saying that the store was busy at noon and she wouldn’t be going back in the afternoon, staying to prepare for the evening business.
Upon hearing this, Zhou Jinchuan didn’t care about the phone’s convenience on her side, and directly told her about wanting to bring his friend to meet her that night.
“Lin Haonan is a friend I’ve known since childhood. He’s on a mission here and came to see me, and he also wants to meet you.”
Su Yi hummed in response, “And who’s the other one?”
“It’s Lin Haonan’s sister.”
“Oh, okay, see you tonight then!”
Zhou Jinchuan hung up the phone and still felt something was off.
Although Su Yi didn’t say anything on the phone just now, her tone felt strange.
It was, strangely cold.
So, he hurriedly finished what he was doing and left early for town.
When he arrived, Su Yi was lying on a rocking chair in the backyard, resting.
Seeing him come so early, she couldn’t help but blurt out, “You came to wait so early? Seems like these two friends are really important.”
Zhou Jinchuan stopped in his tracks upon hearing that, then saw Li Jianguo and Xu Xiaoqin, and the others frantically winking at him from behind.
He smiled and squatted down, rocking the chair for her, “What’s wrong? Are you feeling down?”
Su Yi glanced at him with a faint gaze, “Is that so? Maybe I’m just a bit tired from getting up too early this morning.”
Zhou Jinchuan looked at her with concern, “Then after dinner tonight, let’s go back early together, and you can get some rest.”
“Also, I came so early not to wait for my friends, but to come see you earlier and see if you need any help. Just tell me if there’s anything.”
Su Yi saw his calm and sincere expression and didn’t want to beat around the bush anymore.
She spoke directly, “A man and a woman came to the restaurant at noon and said they were your friends. I was too busy at the time to pay attention to them. Later, the woman, I don’t know why, suddenly stormed off in a huff. Now that I think about it, it’s probably the two friends you mentioned from the capital.”
“There’s nothing I need help with here. You just entertain your friends well tonight, don’t let others say you’re inhospitable.”
Zhou Jinchuan immediately understood.
No wonder he felt something was off when he called Su Yi this afternoon.
And her tone of voice just now, there was a strange sourness to it.
He realized then that she was jealous.
Seeing her jealous for the first time, Zhou Jinchuan felt inexplicably happy, but he was also afraid she might misunderstand something.
He quickly explained, “They suddenly appeared in my office this morning. I was planning to tell you in person when you went back this afternoon, but I didn’t expect them to come here without even a heads-up.”
“That Lin Shuxue is Lin Haonan’s sister. Did she say something that upset you? But I’m declaring first, I don’t know her well.”
“Don’t know her well?” Su Yi looked at Zhou Jinchuan with a meaningful gaze, then pursed her lips and smiled, “She keeps calling you ‘Big Brother Jinchuan’ this and ‘ Big Brother Jinchuan’ that. You say you don’t know her well?”
Zhou Jinchuan’s face darkened upon hearing that, “It’s true, I only know her second brother better. Even when we were kids, she would only call me ‘Brother Chuan’ along with her brothers. I don’t know why she suddenly started calling me that after all these years. I already told her about it this morning.”
“Don’t be like that.” Su Yi teased with a meaningful smile, “Since you grew up together like childhood sweethearts, what’s wrong with calling you ’Big Brother’?”
The more he saw her smile, the less confident Zhou Jinchuan felt.
He thought something else must have happened at noon, otherwise Su Yi wouldn’t be so petty.
So, he hurriedly got up to find Xu Xiaoqin, intending to ask what happened at noon.
Xu Xiaoqin had been holding it in and couldn’t wait. Before Zhou Jinchuan could even speak, she immediately “added fuel to the fire” and told him what happened at noon.
“Those two people, especially the woman, were picking fights from the start!”
“She even went into the kitchen to make things difficult for Sister Su Yi! She said you’ve never told them about your partner being here! And kept calling you “Big Brother” this and “Big Brother” that! You’d think she was your partner!”
“Commander Zhou, you wouldn’t really have a fiancée in the capital, would you? If so, you’ve really messed up our Sister Su Yi!”
Zhou Jinchuan listened, his forehead throbbing, “Absolutely not!”
Then he turned to Li Jianguo, “Is it really as serious as she said?”
Li Jianguo glared at him with displeasure, “On this matter, I stand with Xiao Su, just like everyone else. If you dare do anything that hurts Xiao Su, we’re cutting off all ties!”
Zhou Jinchuan was speechless.
He hurriedly went out to find Su Yi and explain.
But when he got to the backyard, the rocking chair was empty.
He thought for a moment and went to the front desk to call home, ready to bring the kids over!
He was worried that he wouldn’t be able to coax her on his own.
