Lin Haonan awkwardly tugged at the corner of his mouth after hearing this. “It’s good that young people like to joke around.”

He said this, feeling a slight sense of relief in his heart.

Lin Shuxue, however, didn’t feel as relaxed. She had originally thought that Zhou Jinchuan might not know what happened in the city yesterday, so she had specifically mentioned it to remind him.

But who would have thought that the figure was actually him!

Seeing Zhou Jinchuan so attentively taking care of the two children, she immediately felt a pang of regret.

She quickly rummaged through her bag, finding a bag of cookies and a few pieces of chocolate, which she handed over.

“These two children look so well-behaved. Here, have some cookies first. I bought these from an import store in Beijing. The chocolate flavor is delicious.”

Ye Xiaowu only glanced at them before politely refusing. “Thank you, Auntie. Mom said we can’t eat snacks before meals, otherwise we won’t be able to eat dinner later.”

Lin Shuxue was taken aback for a moment. “Mom?”

Ye Xiaowu nodded. “Yeah, the person my uncle marries is called Mom, of course.”

Lin Shuxue awkwardly tugged at the corner of her mouth, then handed the chocolate over. “If you don’t want cookies, then have some chocolate. It won’t fill you up.”

Ye Nuannuan looked at the beautifully packaged chocolate in her hand and couldn’t help but swallow.

She still stubbornly kept her mouth shut, resolutely shaking her head like a rattle.

Seeing this, Ye Xiaowu spoke for her. “Thank you, Auntie. Mom is worried about us getting cavities, so she doesn’t let us eat candy or chocolate at night.”

Lin Shuxue had been repeatedly rebuffed by the two children and didn’t want to continue pushing her luck, so she awkwardly smiled and put the cookies and chocolate back.

Zhou Jinchuan, seeing this, felt a surge of joy in his heart.

Bringing the two children over had definitely been the right decision.

He then looked at Lin Haonan with a hint of pride. “These two children usually listen to their Mom more than anyone, even me. Don’t mind them.”

During the meal, Su Yi only greeted them when all the dishes were served, maintaining basic courtesy.

Then she found an excuse to go back to her busy work.

When everyone finished eating, she came out of the kitchen and said goodbye.

Lin Shuxue saw that she was so busy that even the strands of hair around her temples were a bit messy, but even her messy hair looked beautiful. Her face was flushed with heat from the kitchen, turning a rosy red. Lin Shuxue couldn’t help but purse her lips and dryly say, “Sister-in-law, you’ve worked hard!”

Lin Haonan also looked at her and nodded in agreement. “Then we’ll head back.”

He then pulled Lin Shuxue towards the door.

Lin Shuxue was a little unwilling, so she turned back to look at Zhou Jinchuan. “Brother Chuan, we’re staying at the guest house across the street. If you’re free tonight, why don’t you come and chat with my second brother?”

Zhou Jinchuan looked down at the watch on his wrist. “Tomorrow. You’re both tired today, get some rest.”

Lin Shuxue glanced at the watch on Zhou Jinchuan’s wrist and realized it was a plain, ordinary watch.

She was wondering why he was wearing such a simple watch, and when she turned her head, she noticed that Su Yi was also wearing the same watch.

Lin Shuxue’s face turned pale.  “Okay, it has been a long day. You should go back to the compound and rest early too, Brother Chuan.”

Zhou Jinchuan didn’t respond, simply looking at Su Yi. “I’ll wait for your sister-in-law to finish before we go back together.”

Lin Shuxue was completely confused. “Sister-in-law lives in the compound too?”

Before Zhou Jinchuan could answer, Ye Xiaowu spoke up. “Yeah, Mom lives with us.”

Zhou Jinchuan simply smiled and nodded, confirming this.

Seeing the situation getting increasingly awkward, Lin Haonan quickly pulled Lin Shuxue out the door.

Once they were outside, Lin Shuxue stomped her foot in anger. “Second brother, you should have said something. They’re not married yet, how can they live together?”

Lin Haonan knew Zhou Jinchuan’s character and was sure there was some hidden reason behind this.

He didn’t want to say anything more.

The more he explained, the more hope he would give his sister.

So he simply advised, “Jinchuan knows what he’s doing. We’re both outsiders, we don’t need to worry about him.”

He then walked towards the guest house.

After they left, Zhou Jinchuan finally sighed in relief and asked Su Yi, “Did you eat?”

Su Yi didn’t look at him, nodding as she settled accounts at the front desk. “I ate.”

“Didn’t you say you were tired this afternoon? Go back early.”

“I’m not tired anymore. You go back first, I’ll go back later.”

Zhou Jinchuan knew she was still upset, and he was determined to stay. “I’ll take the kids back first, and come back to pick you up later. Wait here in the shop, don’t leave before I come back.”

Su Yi looked at the time, it wasn’t early anymore.

She didn’t want him to run back and forth like this, so she got up and untied her apron. “Forget it, I’ll go back with you.”

The four of them walked back home in silence.

Ye Xiaowu had figured out what was going on during the walk.

So, as soon as they got home, he quickly pulled Ye Nuannuan aside, acting maturely. “Mom, you’re tired. Let Nuannsleep on the small bed in my room tonight, and you go to bed early.”

Then he pulled Ye Nuannuan, who was still confused, away.

Su Yi knew the two children were trying to give her and Zhou Jinchuan an opportunity, so she didn’t expose them.

She was exhausted from the day and decided to take a shower and change clothes first.
