Although Qin Yunfeng was displeased with Bai Ruolin’s actions today, he had to consider Political Commissar Wang’s words from earlier. Only by maintaining a smooth relationship with Bai Ruolin could he have the opportunity to continue advancing.
Thinking this, Qin Yunfeng reined in the coldness in his eyes and walked over to Bai Ruolin with a smile.
“Ruolin, were you waiting for me?”
Bai Ruolin nodded, “I just came out of Political Commissar Wang’s office. I thought you would be coming soon, so I waited here for you.”
After speaking, Bai Ruolin bit her lip and looked at Qin Yunfeng, “Did Political Commissar Wang mention anything to you?”
Qin Yunfeng nodded as usual, “Yes, he did. Actually, I thought about it last night. What happened last night was my fault. As your partner, no matter what you want to do, I should always stand by your side and support you.”
Bai Ruolin’s heart brightened with joy. “Actually, I wasn’t without fault either. I shouldn’t have taken my frustration out on you. I won’t do that anymore in the future.”
Facing Bai Ruolin’s affectionate gaze, Qin Yunfeng took the initiative to suggest, “I’m free this weekend. How about I take a day off and we go to the county town together? I’ve been saving up the allowances for the past few months and haven’t sent them home.”
“It’s almost autumn; you should get a couple of new clothes.”
Bai Ruolin was very pleased to hear this.
Since the last time her pockets were emptied by Su Yi, she had been spending her own money whenever she went out. Eventually, she started going out less frequently.
Hearing Qin Yunfeng’s suggestion to go out today, how could she not be happy?
Su Yi was also looking forward to the break.
Since starting work at the cafeteria, Su Yi has been busy preparing lunch and dinner for Old Mo every day.
Later, when she moved to the cold dish window, her workload increased even more, making her as busy as a spinning top.
Finally, having a whole day off was something Su Yi was incredibly excited about.
She hadn’t had a chance to spend any of the wages she earned over the past two months! Plus, she still had the 180 yuan she had left from before.
At least she had a bit of money now.
Apart from the work clothes provided by the cafeteria, she only had the two outfits she bought in town before. With autumn approaching, she definitely needed to buy some new clothes, shoes, and socks, as well as some miscellaneous household items.
The day before her break, Su Yi made a point to talk to Zhou Jinchuan about it when he came by.
“Commander Zhou, I’m taking a day off tomorrow to go to the county town. I’ll need you to look after Xiaowu and Nuannuan for me.”
Zhou Jinchuan looked at her. “To the county town?”
Su Yi nodded. “It’s a rare day off, so I want to go to the county town to shop a bit. I originally planned to take the kids with me, but I’m worried we might run into their birth mother, and that could cause trouble.”
Zhou Jinchuan thought for a moment and then said, “If that’s the case, then I’ll go with you.”
Su Yi was momentarily stunned. He was going too?
Seeing that she didn’t respond, Zhou Jinchuan explained, “Since autumn is approaching and Nuannuan will be starting preschool soon, we need to buy her some clothes, a backpack, and some school supplies.”
[It’s good and all, but I’m worried people might start talking again.]
Zhou Jinchuan: …
“Xiao Jun also needs to go to the county town.”
Su Yi was pleased and agreed, “That’s the best! Thank you for your help!”
Xiaowu and Nuannuan were thrilled to hear that they could also go to the county town and started running around the yard with excitement.
On the day of the break, to avoid drawing too much attention from others, Su Yi decided to have Xie Xiaojun and Zhou Jinchuan wait outside the main gate.
She brought Xiaowu and Nuannuan to meet them.
Although Zhou Jinchuan felt it was unnecessary, he agreed, worried that the three might arrive early. So he and Xie Xiaojun arrived outside the gate early to wait.
While waiting in the car, they suddenly heard someone knock on the car door.
Xie Xiaojun thought it was the three of them arriving and hurried out to open the door.
To their surprise, it was Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin.
Bai Ruolin glanced at Zhou Jinchuan sitting in the car and asked with a smile, “Comrade Xie, what a coincidence! Are you all going on a mission?”
Xie Xiaojun shook his head. “No, we’re on a break today. We’re heading to the county town.”
Bai Ruolin understood and looked at Qin Yunfeng. “Perfect timing, as we were planning to take a car to the county town as well. If it’s convenient—”
Xie Xiaojun immediately understood and waved his hand, “Sorry, it’s not really convenient.”
Bai Ruolin hadn’t finished speaking before being rejected on the spot.
Her face showed some embarrassment. “But you don’t have anyone else with you, do you?”
Qin Yunfeng gently tugged at Bai Ruolin from behind. “Forget it, we can take the bus just the same.”
Bai Ruolin, thinking about the unpleasant smell on the minibus, couldn’t help but frown and wanted to say something more.
Suddenly, Su Yi saw the two kids walking over with Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin.
Su Yi was momentarily surprised to see the two of them but quickly realized what was going on.
Were they getting along again?
It seemed this was the first time Su Yi had seen them both looking so happy.
As she helped the kids into the car, she cheerfully greeted them, “Are you two going out on a date?”
Bai Ruolin shot her an annoyed glance. “So you were waiting for them. Comrade Xie, you could have just said someone else was coming instead of making us ask for so long.”
With that, she dragged Qin Yunfeng away in a huff.
Su Yi, now in the car, was still puzzled. “What’s going on with those two? Did they have another argument?”
Xie Xiaojun quickly explained, “It’s not that. She insisted on taking our car to the county town, and even after we said it wasn’t convenient, she still insisted. Fortunately, you all came.”
Su Yi thought to herself: As long as they’re not arguing, that’s fine!
Once the three of them were settled, Xie Xiaojun pressed the accelerator and drove towards the county town.
Bai Ruolin was choked by the dust kicked up by the car and couldn’t help but mutter a few complaints at the rear of the vehicle.
Qin Yunfeng quickly reassured her, “Don’t get upset. We’re finally on a break to relax. There’s no need to let trivial matters ruin our mood.”
Bai Ruolin considered the purpose of their outing and managed to suppress her dissatisfaction.
“Brother Qin, you’re right. We shouldn’t let ourselves be bothered by such things.”
“I just don’t understand. I don’t know what kind of charm Su Yi used to make Commander Zhou so captivated,” Bai Ruolin said.
Qin Yunfeng pressed his lips together. “Is that so? Maybe it’s just a simple matter of her needing a ride to the county town. The kids are with her, and Comrade Xie is there too.”
Bai Ruolin scoffed inwardly. “Brother Qin, it’s normal for a man like you not to see it. Anyway, Su Yi isn’t as simple as you think. We’ll find out soon enough.”
Qin Yunfeng felt a pang of unease. Could it be that Commander Zhou might actually be interested in Su Yi, that rural girl with nothing to her name?
For some reason, the thought made him feel a wave of bitterness inside.
Once upon a time, that girl’s eyes and heart were only for him. Even if they were to break off the engagement in the future, he would always hold a place in her heart.
But ever since she arrived here, it seemed everything had changed.
