Zhou Jinchuan, hearing her say this, didn’t know whether to be happy or worried.
He finished the water she had poured in one gulp and stood up, “It’s getting late, I’m going back. Get some rest early.”
Su Yi also stood up to see him off, and suddenly remembered something.
“Commander Zhou, I wanted to ask you something. Have Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin started filing a report for their marriage?”
Zhou Jinchuan replied truthfully, “Not yet. Are you in a hurry?”
Now it was Su Yi’s turn to be stunned, “Ah, no. I mean, why aren’t they in a hurry?”
Zhou Jinchuan also realized his reaction was wrong.
He quickly made amends, “Hmm, you hope they get married soon?”
Su Yi gave a dry laugh, “Yeah, if they get married sooner, it’ll save me from being embarrassed when I go back home for the Spring Festival and my family makes a scene.”
Zhou Jinchuan nodded, “I understand. I’ll ask around.”
Su Yi thought he was just saying it casually.
It was already autumn.
Qin Yunfeng and Bai Ruolin were going about their business in such a lukewarm manner. It was worrisome, as who knows what could go wrong.
The longer they waited, the more things could happen. It seemed she needed to find a way to light a fire under them.
Su Yi was paying attention, but she hadn’t expected the opportunity to come so quickly.
One day, Qin Yunfeng came to the window alone to order food, while Bai Ruolin was absent.
As Su Yi handed him the clay pot, she whispered, “Come to the back of the cafeteria after you finish eating. I have something to tell you.”
Qin Yunfeng was taken aback. At first, he thought he had misheard.
But seeing Su Yi glance at him, he quickly nodded.
As he walked away with his tray, Qin Yunfeng was both nervous and excited, his heart pounding like a drum.
He knew that Su Yi couldn’t have forgotten him so quickly.
Commander Zhou was the best proof. If they really had something going on, Su Yi wouldn’t have moved from his house to the dormitory.
Qin Yunfeng quickly finished his Hot pot, his tongue burning from the heat.
Seeing him leave for the back, Su Yi quickly gave Xu Xiaoqin a brief instruction and followed.
When Su Yi arrived at the back, she found that no one else was there except Qin Yunfeng. She walked towards him.
She stopped a distance away from Qin Yunfeng.
“Comrade Qin, I called you here because I wanted to ask…”
Before Su Yi could finish her sentence, Qin Yunfeng took a few steps forward.
“You used to call me Big Brother Yunfeng.”
Su Yi grimaced, forcing down a wave of disgust. “That was before, when I was young and naive. It wouldn’t be appropriate to call you that now!”
A hint of disappointment crossed Qin Yunfeng’s face. “You’re right. That was a long time ago.”
Su Yi had no intention of reminiscing with him. She went straight to the point. “I wanted to ask, when are you planning to marry Comrade Bai?”
Qin Yunfeng looked up at her in disbelief, finding no trace of the expected sadness on her face.
“Are you not happy about me marrying her?”
Su Yi chuckled dryly. “You’re overthinking. I just thought that Spring Festival isn’t that far away. If you two haven’t gotten married by then, how are you going to handle things when you go back home?”
“You know how things are in the village. Everyone knows about us. If we both go back this time, there’s no guarantee that my family won’t come knocking.”
“Anything can happen in the countryside. They might even knock you out and carry you back to our house. So I suggest you settle this soon.”
Qin Yunfeng was initially overcome with a wave of disappointment upon hearing her words.
He thought she was unhappy about him getting married so soon, that she still held onto a glimmer of hope for them.
He hadn’t expected her to be urging him to get married as well.
Then, he considered her reminder, and it wasn’t entirely without merit.
His hometown wasn’t a place where reason always prevailed.
What if everyone insisted on pairing him with Su Yi?
The mere thought of that possibility plunged Qin Yunfeng into a state of hesitation.
“If I marry Bai Ruolin now, would you be heartbroken?”
Su Yi rolled her eyes internally. “Are you afraid I won’t be able to afford a gift? Don’t worry, I’ve already prepared one.”
Qin Yunfeng pretended not to understand. “I’m asking you, would you be heartbroken if I married her?”
Su Yi’s temper was starting to fray. “What do I have to be heartbroken about? If you keep dragging things out, are you going to throw away the person you worked so hard to win over? Are you going to throw away your promising future? Think about it yourself!”
With that, Su Yi turned and walked away.
But she had only taken two steps when she bumped into Bai Ruolin.
Bai Ruolin had just received a tip and rushed over to catch them.
She arrived to find the two of them standing a distance apart, engaged in a conversation.
She quickly ran over.
Before she reached them, she saw Su Yi turning to leave.
Bai Ruolin quickly took a step forward and grabbed Su Yi’s arm. “You bitch! What were you doing with Big Brother Qin? Why are you still clinging to him?”
Su Yi turned around and wrenched her arm free. “Are you full of shit? Which eye of yours saw me clinging to him? I was just asking him something! We’re from the same village, for goodness sake. Is it wrong to talk to someone?”
Bai Ruolin was taken aback by the scolding. “What could you possibly have to talk to him about?”
Su Yi smirked. “I asked him about your wedding. He said he hasn’t considered getting married yet.”
Bai Ruolin glared at her with suspicion. “When we get married is none of your business!”
Su Yi scoffed. “Of course it’s my business. Don’t forget what our relationship is like in the countryside. When we go back for Spring Festival this year, our elders will inevitably try to arrange things for us.”
“You dare!”
Su Yi shrugged helplessly. “It’s not like I want this. My family is very domineering. I could talk myself blue in the face and they wouldn’t listen.”
Bai Ruolin was a little dumbfounded. “What do you mean?”
Su Yi smiled. “What do I mean? I’m just doing what my family wants. After all, you two haven’t gotten your marriage certificate yet—”
Bai Ruolin immediately panicked. “Who says we haven’t gotten it? We’ve already filled out the marriage application and are waiting for it to be approved. If you dare to interfere at this point, don’t blame me for being rude.”
Su Yi seized the opportunity to provoke her further. “Don’t boast. Even if you’ve submitted the application, it’s not guaranteed to be approved. We’ll talk about it after you get your marriage certificate!”
With that, Su Yi turned and left.
She left the rest to the two of them to “discuss.”
Bai Ruolin couldn’t figure out Su Yi’s intentions. She only knew that Su Yi was definitely up to something.
On the surface, she said she couldn’t control the situation, but secretly she might be hoping that she and Qin Yunfeng wouldn’t get married.
That way, she could go back home for Spring Festival and have her family arrange things for them!
Seeing Qin Yunfeng still standing there in a daze, Bai Ruolin stormed towards him.
