Arriving at the city center, Su Yi first found a pawnshop, ready to pawn the watch that Bai Ruolin had given her.
It would be better than letting it pollute the air in her space.
Although Bai Ruolin wasn’t a good person, the watch was a good watch, and she managed to pawn it for fifty yuan.
Combined with the hundred yuan in cash that Bai Ruolin had ‘gifted’ her in the space, she had exactly two hundred and fifty yuan.
Su Yi had known since she was little that free money couldn’t stay long, and she had to spend it quickly.
So, after leaving the pawnshop, she headed straight for the East Market across the overpass.
This area also gathered many vendors who came to set up stalls.
With the Spring Festival approaching, there were many vendors from afar selling New Year’s goods in the market.
Su Yi strolled around, stopping in front of a truck at the very back.
The truck was packed with all sorts of goods, from food and necessities to clothes, a dazzling array.
It’s like a moving mini supermarket.
There was originally a young man standing on the truck, enthusiastically promoting his goods.
Seeing Su Yi eyeing the products, he proactively jumped off the truck and walked towards her, “Miss, what would you like to buy?”
But he was immediately stunned.
Although Su Yi was wrapped in a scarf, only her eyes were visible.
But those eyes were truly beautiful, like a frozen lake in winter, clear, bright, and with a hint of watery sheen.
Su Yi’s eyes were fixed on the goods on the truck, without being distracted by him.
She just curiously asked, “Your goods are quite unusual. Are they from the south?”
Upon hearing this, the young man’s eyes lit up, “Miss has sharp eyes. I just brought these goods back from the south yesterday, they’re still warm.”
Su Yi noticed he kept calling her “Miss” and couldn’t help but furrow her brows, “Did you also learn this way of addressing people from the south?”
Su Yi could see that the young man seemed accustomed to traveling around and had a bit of a rogue vibe about him.
He laughed freely and had a carefree demeanor.
At that moment, she decided not to buy anything.
As she turned to leave, the young man quickly became serious and apologized, “I’m sorry, I lost my head for a moment. Comrade, please take another look. The goods I have are all good quality, and the prices are reasonable.”
Su Yi noticed that he seemed more normal after putting away his carefree smile, and his attitude had softened a bit.
Moreover, the goods on the truck were indeed much better than what she had seen at the county supply and marketing cooperative.
So, she picked out several daily necessities like washbasins, footbaths, towels, soap, mirrors, and thermos flasks.
She planned to put these items in her space and take them out when she returned to the countryside to use them.
Otherwise, with the temperament of the original owner’s family, they definitely would not have prepared these for her.
After buying what she needed for herself, Su Yi found the prices to be reasonable and decided to stock up on some goods in her space.
When she returned to the countryside, if she had the opportunity, she could try setting up a stall in the county and maybe make some profit.
After all, transportation was inconvenient in her hometown, and there was a shortage of various goods.
She couldn’t afford big-ticket items, so she focused on small commodities.
Especially those suitable for selling at the large New Year’s market.
Su Yi picked up a pack of sunflower seeds and found them quite interesting.
Most of the sunflower seeds here were usually sold loose and only came in one flavor.
Unlike the ones on the truck, not only were they individually packaged, but there were also several flavors available.
The young man noticed Su Yi’s interest and immediately handed her a pack, saying, “Comrade, you can try them first. If they’re delicious, then you can buy some.”
Su Yi tried one and found the taste to be quite good, so she asked, “How much are the sunflower seeds?”
“Twenty cents per pack,” he replied.
Su Yi then shifted her attention to the hair tie section nearby, where a dazzling array of hair ties, hair clips of various styles, and headbands of all colors were hanging.
She had never seen these styles when she went to buy things for Nuannuan before.
In addition to these, there were also brightly colored scarves and hair scrunchies, which were also very beautiful.
She asked the price of each item.
They weren’t too expensive, the cheapest being ten cents and the most expensive no more than fifty cents.
After Su Yi decided on what she wanted and asked the prices, she felt confident and turned to the young man, asking,
“If I want to buy goods from you and sell them elsewhere, can you give me a discount?”
The young man quickly came to his senses and nodded with a smile, “Of course, I understand. In the south, this is called a wholesale price, and the price is definitely different.”
“That’s good. I want 200 packs of these sunflower seeds. What price can you give me?”
The young man paused for a moment, “I can give you fifteen cents per pack.”
“That’s too expensive! I have to pay for transportation and labor costs when I take them to other places. I also have to brave the cold weather and set up a stall, so I can only sell them for twenty cents per pack.”
After saying that, Su Yi added, “If the price is right, I will come back to buy from you in the future, and I have other things I need to buy right now.”
The young man didn’t know which part of her words made him so happy.
He showed his white teeth and said, “Alright, since you’re planning to do business in the long run, I won’t say anymore. The sunflower seeds are twelve cents per pack, that’s the lowest I can go.”
“Good!” Su Yi agreed readily, then she negotiated the price of the hair accessories she had chosen in the same way.
After buying all these things, Su Yi had several large bags full in front of her.
She couldn’t carry any more.
Su Yi decided to go back to the guesthouse first, but the young man saw that she was about to leave without a word.
He quickly stopped her, “Comrade, what’s your name? Leave me your phone number so we can stay in touch.”
He handed her a note with his name and phone number written on it, “This is my number, I’m Jiang Yuan.”
Su Yi had just been being polite and didn’t actually plan to resell small commodities in the future.
She had just happened to come across this opportunity and thought it would be convenient to make some money.
She had no intention of staying in touch afterward.
She simply replied, “I have your number, I’ll contact you if I need anything next time.”
The man probably saw through Su Yi’s coldness and perfunctory attitude.
He suddenly became a little anxious, “Comrade, I still have a lot of good stuff I haven’t taken out yet. By the way, you ladies all like bananas, right? A friend of mine said he just got a shipment of bananas today. I’ll take you to see them?”
Su Yi was about to leave, but when she heard the word “bananas,” her eyes lit up.
She stopped in her tracks, “Bananas? Where did you get them?”
In her memory, bananas were extremely rare in the north in the 1980s.
Not to mention at this time of year.
Seeing her interest, Jiang Yuan grinned widely, “Don’t worry about where I got them, they’re all legal and good bananas. I’ll give you a wholesale price, how about that?”
Su Yi nodded, “Let’s see the goods first.”
“Alright, you watch the stall for me, I’ll go get my friend right now.”
He then ran off quickly.
Su Yi looked at his retreating figure and then at the truck full of goods next to her.
She couldn’t help but click her tongue, “This guy doesn’t seem very smart, does he?”
