Chapter 3 : I Don’t Know You
Aiguo led the two women to the reception room of the regiment headquarters.
He asked them to sit wherever they wanted and poured each of them a cup of hot water.
Lu Fangfang didn’t hesitate either. She picked up the cup and started drinking. She had been exposed to the cold wind on the military vehicle for half an hour and still hadn’t fully recovered.
“Let me introduce myself. My name is Aiguo. I am the political commissar of the regiment. I’m in charge of all matters related to the daily life of the regiment.”
Aiguo sat down and took out a notebook and pen from his pocket as usual. Then, he looked at the two people sitting on the bench and said, “Tell me, what happened between you two and the battalion commander?”
“Comrade Lu?”
“Bang!”
Before Lu Fangfang could speak, Zhu Haimei hastily stood up. “Comrade, you have to make the decision for me on this matter. I…”
“Just sit down and talk,” Aiguo waved his hand.
Zhu Haimei held her breath and quickly pulled over her suitcase, taking out a large stack of letters. “Comrade , your battalion commander and I are in a free relationship, and these are the letters we exchanged.”
“This is not the old society anymore. Feudal remnants like child marriage should not continue to exist!”
As she said this, she turned her head and glared at Lu Fangfang.
“Oh…”
Lu Fangfang sneered.
This scene made it look like she was competing with her for the man, which was really outrageous.
Besides, Lu Fangfang wouldn’t want a man like this.
Shaking her head, she put down the cup and said, “My family has been poor peasants for three generations. We have a clean background, and there are no feudal remnants.”
Beside her, Zhu Haimei’s face turned pale, and she lowered her head subconsciously.
“Political Commissar , I’m not here to force him to marry me. Child marriage is a decision made by the previous generation. It shouldn’t restrict us. We just need to make things clear.”
After saying this, Lu Fangfang felt relieved.
Relying on men is unreliable.
Forget it, I’ll just treat this as a hiking trip and figure out a solution when I get back to the commune.
“I see.”
Aiguo sighed in relief when he heard this. This matter could be easily resolved as long as people didn’t make a fuss about it.
“Comrades Lu Fangfang and Zhu Haimei, please show me your letters of introduction.”
Lu Fangfang unpacked her bag and handed over the crumpled letter of introduction.
Fortunately, she hadn’t lost it, or it would have been difficult to prove herself.
Next to her, Zhu Haimei looked a little nervous. She rummaged through her suitcase for a while until Aiguo finished reading Lu Fangfang’s letter of introduction. Then she reluctantly handed over hers.
“Um?”
“Your family is capitalist?”
Aiguo looked up at Zhu Haimei with a surprised expression.
This wasn’t good news. If the battalion commander really got together with her, it would affect his future.
“Yes… a national capitalist, no… not a comprador capitalist.”
Zhu Haimei was very nervous, her speech slightly stuttering.
If it weren’t for this reason, she wouldn’t have come to the Northwest from the bustling Shanghai.
“Comrade , I despise my family, but I have no choice about my origins. But I have the right to choose my own path in life, so I came to our Corps, I…”
Aiguo frowned, waved his hand, and continued to read the letter of introduction in his hand.
Zhu Haimei opened her mouth, feeling very nervous. Seeing Lu Fangfang looking at her, she turned her head and glared at her again.
Bah, don’t even think about using your background to snatch your man away from me!
She doesn’t want to go back and continue suffering!
“…”
The corner of Lu Fangfang’s mouth twitched. She had made it so clear, but this daughter of a capitalist still acted as if she had stolen her husband from her.
“National capitalists…”
Shaking her head, Lu Fangfang picked up the cup and continued to drink in small sips.
She knew what national capitalists meant, they were people whose families owned industrial factories. This daughter of a capitalist was born in the wrong era.
She was just daydreaming when she heard the door open, and then a man and a woman walked in.
The man was dressed in military uniform, about 1.80 meters tall, with a slender figure, a straight nose, and a serious, resolute look on his face.
It was the bandage on his left hand that really spoiled the view.
‘You can’t judge a person by his appearance.’
Lu Fangfang muttered something and looked at the woman next to her.
The woman was wearing a white coat and looked like a military doctor, which matched the man well.
“Political Commissar, the battalion commander’s arm hasn’t recovered yet. He needs to rest. What do you want him to do? Don’t assign him any more tasks.”
Seeing that Ting was in a lot of trouble, Aiguo said helplessly, “Doctor Ting , I have something important to talk to Captain Zhuang about. Why don’t you go back and do your work first?”
After saying that, he pointed at Zhu Haimei and Lu Fangfang on the bench and said to the tall man next to Ting “Look at what you’ve done!”
“Huh?”
Only then did Ting realize that there were two strange women in the room.
After taking a closer look at the two of them, she turned to look at Zhuang Mingcheng, but before she could ask, a scream came from behind her, “Ah!”
Zhu Haimei hurriedly ran to Zhuang Mingcheng.
Lowering her head, she looked at the man’s arm for a while. “What’s wrong with your arm? When did you get hurt? Why didn’t you tell me in the letter? Can it be healed?”
She had finally joined the army, and it would be a big loss if her fiancé was discharged due to injury or illness.
“No, comrade, who are you?”
Ting’s face looked a little ugly. She took a step forward and protected Zhuang Mingcheng behind her. “Do you know this woman?”
“I don’t know her.”
Zhuang Mingcheng shook his head and subconsciously looked at Lu Fangfang on the bench.
“Um?”
After taking a closer look at the woman’s face, Zhuang Mingcheng stood there in a daze.
“What? You don’t know me? How could you not know me?”
Beside her, Zhu Haimei was both ashamed and angry. “I am Haimei, I am your fiancée Zhu Haimei.”
“Comrade, please respect yourself! Our Battalion Commander Zhuang won’t marry just anyone!” Ting looked at her unkindly.
“Are you asking me to respect myself again? Who are you to him?”
Zhu Haimei suppressed her anger.
Well, it’s fine to have a childhood marriage partner, but now a female military doctor shows up. She is really blind!
“I am his comrade-in-arms, I…”
“Alright!”
Political Commissar Aiguo couldn’t stand it anymore and slammed the table next to him, “Bang!”
“What are you arguing about? What do you think this place is?”
Seeing that everyone was looking over, he said to Xiao Ting with a dark face, “Doctor Ting, this has nothing to do with you. Go back to work first.”
“Commissar, can you…”
“Go back!”
Ting bit her lip, looking unwilling.
Seeing that Aiguo was really angry, she put her hands into her white coat, turned around, and walked away angrily.
“Call…”
Aiguo breathed a sigh of relief.
He also had a headache when facing his teacher’s daughter.
He turned his head and glared at Zhuang Mingcheng fiercely. He really underestimated this kid.
He opened his mouth and was about to say something when he saw Zhu Haimei coming closer again.
“Woo woo, I finally came here from Shanghai, and you treat me like this?”
“You can even say that you don’t know me. Do you still have a conscience?”
Zhu Haimei rubbed her eyes and tears were about to fall.
“Um?”
Zhuang Mingcheng came back to his senses. He frowned and said, “Comrade, I really don’t know you. Did you recognize the wrong person?”
