The wild boar was already on the brink of collapse, but it saw a tall and sturdy man running toward it.
The wild boar, filled with a strong will to survive, suddenly regained some strength and struggled to rise.
Gu Nan still had the sickle with him. He drew it out, raising it high, and when it fell, it made a whistling sound as it cut through the air.
Just as the sickle was about to land on the wild boar, Gu Nan, without lifting his head, spoke softly, “Don’t look.”
Su Niannian was too beautiful. Such a pure, innocent young girl wasn’t suited to witness such a bloody scene.
Not far away, a soft “Mm” could be heard. Gu Nan swung the sickle once more.
The wild boar’s bristles were thick and, due to years of wandering through the mountains, they had become hardened with dirt.
Ordinary farmers would struggle to break through the wild boar’s defenses.
But when Gu Nan’s sickle came down, fresh blood immediately began to flow from the wild boar’s neck.
The wild boar’s body convulsed violently a few times before slowly settling into stillness.
Gu Nan tore a handful of wild grass from the side and wiped the blood that was dripping from his sickle onto it.
Then, with his sleeve, he wiped the blood that had splattered onto his face.
This scene should have filled a young girl with fear, and Gu Nan didn’t dare to let his face be exposed to her.
He was afraid she would be scared.
But then, he heard a sigh by his ear.
“You’re amazing!” Su Niannian actually let out a soft “Mm” but didn’t turn her head or look away.
Instead, her gaze was deeply fixed on Gu Nan.
As Gu Nan moved just now, his arm muscles tensed, revealing the perfect lines of his well-built physique.
With a swift motion, the sickle came down decisively, without hesitation or excess.
Su Niannian couldn’t help but fall in love with him.
Gu Nan’s appearance signified an overwhelming sense of security, and Su Niannian loved it, loved him so much.
Hearing this, Gu Nan stole a glance at Su Niannian.
But when he met her gaze, filled with excitement and admiration, there was no trace of fear or dread in her eyes.
Instead, it made Gu Nan’s ears turn red once again.
Gu Nan often went hunting in the mountains, so he had a rope with him.
Seeing that Gu Nan was about to tie up the wild boar, Su Niannian stepped forward to help.
“Don’t come over, it’s dirty,” Gu Nan said, stopping her.
“It’s not dirty,” Su Niannian responded as she moved forward, taking the rope from Gu Nan’s hands. She gestured for him to lift the wild boar’s four legs a bit.
Su Niannian wrapped the rope around the wild boar’s four legs several times and then tied a knot around the boar’s hooves.
The pig’s hoof knot was a double loop knot… a type of knot that tightens the more the animal struggles. It was a knot Gu Nan had practiced during his training in the army.
Having stayed in Kaoshan Village for so long, Gu Nan had never seen anyone else use this knot.
How could this delicate little girl know such a knotting technique?
Although the wild boar was already dead and wouldn’t struggle, this method of tying knots was rare and even scarcely known.
“This wild boar…” Just as Gu Nan was about to speak, voices already reached his ears.
More villagers began arriving one after another.
Actually, Gu Nan wanted to tell Su Niannian that this wild boar belonged to her.
But the noise from the boar had already attracted the villagers’ attention, so it was up to the team to handle it.
Otherwise, a wild boar like this could be sold privately for over a hundred, maybe even two hundred yuan.
Before he could tell the girl, the villagers had already arrived.
The villagers first noticed the blood on Gu Nan’s body, and the bloodstains on his face that hadn’t been wiped off yet.
Then, their eyes fell on Su Niannian, the Educated Youth standing beside Gu Nan.
And when their gazes landed on the wild boar, already killed and bound on the ground, the smiles on their faces were hard to suppress.
Normally, they could only have meat during the New Year, but now, in front of everyone, they had the chance to share in the meat.
For smaller game, like wild chickens or rabbits, whoever caught it would keep it.
But for larger animals like wild boars or roe deer, no matter who hunted it, it had to be handed over to the team and shared by the whole group.
This was a great blessing.
The crowd gathered around, looking at the wild boar, their mouths grinning from ear to ear.
“This…”
Li Ergou stepped forward, about to say something.
But before he could, Su Niannian jumped out, pointing at Gu Nan and raising her voice.
“This wild boar was killed by Gu Nan!”
Gu Nan was taken aback. This wild boar… no matter how you looked at it, it shouldn’t be credited to him.
But Gu Nan didn’t bother to explain. Was he really supposed to tell everyone that the wild boar had taken its own life and just happened to be found by the young lady?
Forget it… If she says I killed it, then I guess I killed it…
Gu Nan didn’t speak up to refute.
With Su Niannian’s interruption, Li Ergou was momentarily stunned.
“Well, what else could it be? The only people here are you and my South Brother. If it wasn’t you, then of course it was my South Brother who killed it. Unless, of course, the wild boar killed itself, right?” After saying that, Li Ergou laughed.
He thought to himself that he was quite humorous.
Gu Nan gave Li Ergou a glance and couldn’t help but raise an eyebrow. This kid actually has some analysis skills, but maybe he should skip the analysis next time.
“Gu family’s second son, you’re really something!!” A woman who had rushed over couldn’t help but exclaim.
Taking down a wild boar single-handedly? That was truly impressive.
In this village, no other young man could be as brave and fierce as Gu Nan.
If it weren’t for Gu Nan’s family situation, with his build, looks, and strength, many of the village girls would likely want to marry him.
What a shame for such a young man.
“Brother Nan! You’re really brave!”
“Now the village can get some meat!”
The villagers who saw the wild boar were all smiles.
Song Zhaodi approached Su Niannian and asked if she was alright, if she had been scared.
Su Niannian waved her hand, reassuring Song Zhaodi that she wasn’t scared and not to worry.
Song Zhaodi finally relaxed and said she wouldn’t let Su Niannian go into the mountains alone anymore. It was really too dangerous.
Su Niannian laughed it off, shifting the topic.
It was impossible not to go into the mountains—she couldn’t imagine a life without doing so.
Since so many people had gathered, Gu Nan wouldn’t need to carry the wild boar down the mountain himself.
After all, it had to be handed over to the team, and they would all share in the task. It was time for others to lend a hand.
Gu Nan felt a little regretful. If there hadn’t been such a big commotion attracting so many people, the wild boar could have been sold for quite a bit of money. With that money, the young girl wouldn’t have to work so hard for points anymore.
When they reached the foot of the mountain, the village chief’s youngest son, Li Jinbao, was waiting outside. As soon as he heard the noise, he didn’t even have the slightest intention of entering the mountain.

As they reached the foot of the mountain, the village chief’s youngest son, Li Jinbao, was waiting outside. He had heard the noise and had no intention of going inside at all.
Hearing such a loud noise definitely meant danger. He wasn’t actually trying to come protect any young intellectuals; he just wanted to come and flirt.
Upon seeing Su Niannian in the crowd, Li Jinbao’s heart fluttered once again.
This little girl—oh, wow! She’s really, damn, stunning! So incredibly beautiful!
Just one glance and he couldn’t help but feel irresistibly drawn to her.
