“Don’t worry about me, I won’t be in trouble, I definitely won’t be in trouble.”
The words that followed seemed more like they were meant for Su Niannian, but they felt even more like they were meant for himself.
“You need to run down to the foot of the mountain quickly! Do you understand?”
At that moment, Gu Nan only hoped to give his little girl a little more time.
Su Niannian looked up and met his gaze.
Those eyes, tinted with shades of ink, revealed determination and an undeniable resolve.
The look in Gu Nan’s eyes was different from the one he had just moments ago before facing death. That previous gaze had been filled with pleading, weakness, and reluctance.
Su Niannian felt as if some tender part of her heart had been touched once again.
Gu Nan’s deep affection had never been expressed through words. He had always been showing Su Niannian his burning, intense love through his actions.
It had been like this before, and now it was still the same.
Su Niannian felt a slight ache in her nose, and she tightened her embrace, holding Gu Nan tightly.
Gu Nan instinctively tried to pull away, because this was not the time for an embrace. In this critical moment of life and death, they should not be like this.
But when he thought about the future… perhaps there would be no future, and he couldn’t bring himself to pull away from this embrace, even a little.
The tiger over there seemed to remain completely still, showing no sign of movement.
It wasn’t until Su Niannian released her hold on Gu Nan that the tiger remained unmoving, simply standing there, staring at Su Niannian.
If it weren’t nighttime, if the moonlight were just a bit brighter, Su Niannian might have been able to see the little creature’s face, twisted into a highly human-like, mischievous grin.
“Don’t worry,” Su Niannian said, holding onto Gu Nan’s right hand.
Her brows and eyes curved gently, revealing a soft smile, meant to reassure Gu Nan.
“Don’t worry, I’ve saved that tiger before. It won’t hurt me.”
Su Niannian said this and, before Gu Nan could react, she pulled at his clothes with determination.
The firm, muscular lines of his arms were revealed before her eyes.
Su Niannian carefully used the spiritual spring water to clean Gu Nan’s wounds.
She wasn’t sure if the wolf’s claws carried any bacteria, but even if they did, as long as they were washed with the spiritual spring water, there should be no major issues.
After cleaning the wound, the bleeding stopped, and Su Niannian began to bandage Gu Nan’s injury with gauze.
It was something she had bought at the medicine shop earlier, and she hadn’t expected she would actually need to use it.
The wolf pack had already retreated far away, leaving the area clear. Gu Nan kept his gaze fixed on the tiger, which was still watching them intently.
Although the tiger hadn’t made any moves, and it seemed to be exactly as Su Niannian had said, Gu Nan still didn’t dare to let his guard down.
He couldn’t afford to gamble on whether a tiger would understand gratitude.
Su Niannian looked up and glanced at the little creature for a moment.
The little creature glanced at Su Niannian, then at the wolf meat beneath its feet. Su Niannian immediately understood and nodded in acknowledgment.
The little one must have been hungry earlier, and now the strong scent of wolf blood filled the air.
Seeing Su Niannian’s understanding and nod of approval, the little one didn’t hold back and began to eat the wolf meat in front of it.
With its sharp tiger teeth, it easily tore through the wolf’s hide, gnawing at the flesh and blood.
It was Su Niannian’s first time witnessing a tiger feed, and the scene was somewhat gruesome.
“Don’t look,” Gu Nan said, placing his hand over Su Niannian’s eyes, making sure she wouldn’t see the tiger feeding.
Gu Nan was still thinking about how to safely get Su Niannian out of here.
If luck was on their side, the tiger should leave after it was full.
Su Niannian felt Gu Nan’s hand covering her eyes, and the warmth of his breath landed on his palm, causing a tingling sensation in his hand.
After hearing Su Niannian say, “Don’t look,” Gu Nan slowly lowered his hand.
“Don’t look at it, look at you.”
Su Niannian shifted her focus to Gu Nan. This man, it seemed, was always handsome no matter the moment.
He was handsome when hunting wild boars, handsome when fighting wolves, and even more so when protecting himself.
How could she love him so much, and yet never get enough of him?
Thinking this, Su Niannian couldn’t help but kiss the underside of Gu Nan’s chin.
Setting aside the concern for Gu Nan’s injured body, the muscles of his arms and legs certainly made Su Niannian’s thoughts wander.
Gu Nan had been tensed, his body alert in the face of the tiger, but at the sudden kiss from Su Niannian, he froze for a moment.
Even at a time like this, how could his little girl still be so playful?
But when he looked into Su Niannian’s gentle eyes, the words that were about to come out of his mouth were swallowed back down.
After carefully tending to his wounds, Su Niannian bandaged Gu Nan’s calf and then embraced him once more.
Gu Nan gently patted Su Niannian’s back.
“You really don’t listen. I told you not to come,” Gu Nan’s voice was deep and slightly hoarse.
But it was precisely this voice that captivated Su Niannian.
Su Niannian opened her water flask and gave Gu Nan a large sip of spiritual spring water.
Thinking to herself, If I hadn’t come, I’d be a widow!
The spiritual spring water slid down Gu Nan’s throat, cool and refreshing, making him feel much better. His throat didn’t feel as tight as it had before.
Gu Nan kept a careful watch on the tiger’s movements.
After the tiger had finished devouring the two wolves, it stopped and turned its gaze toward them.
Gu Nan instinctively moved to shield Su Niannian once again.
Su Niannian, constantly protected by Gu Nan, felt a deep sense of warmth and happiness in her heart.
This man, no matter what kind of danger they face, always ensures that he protects himself well.
She is his most important person.
Su Niannian felt that being alive, in this moment, was truly a wonderful thing.
Seeing Gu Nan cautiously watch the little tiger, she waved her hand to signal it to leave.
The little tiger paused for a moment, then, reluctantly, swayed its body and walked away.
Watching the little tiger leave, Su Niannian could clearly sense Gu Nan let out a long breath.
The little tiger thought to itself, “Master can’t possibly be rejecting me, right? Maybe just telling me to leave for now…
She’ll come back to find me, right?
But why do I feel so uncertain? Why do I feel so uncertain inside?!
Master won’t… become indifferent to me, right?”
As the little tiger walked farther away, Gu Nan, who had been holding his breath, finally felt a sense of relief.
Su Niannian had finished bandaging his arm and leg by now.
Gu Nan felt it was strange. The wounds that had hurt so badly just a moment ago, after being bandaged, seemed to have little pain now.
He tried to move a bit and realized that even when his muscles were involved, the pain wasn’t as sharp as before.
His little girl seemed to have used some kind of magic.
Noticing Gu Nan’s reaction, Su Niannian smiled and hugged him.
“I’m really amazing, aren’t I?” Su Niannian tilted her chin up and said.
“Mm, always amazing,” Gu Nan replied, never sparing praise for her.
“But you are very disobedient.” She was clearly not allowed to come, but she still came.
It was so dangerous just now, and I asked her to leave, but she rushed into the wolf pack regardless of everything.
Maybe… she loves me too, right?
Maybe, even if she is someone else’s substitute, she is still an unnecessary substitute, right?
When Gu Nan thought of this, his eyes darkened a little.
Gu Nan hugged Su Niannian tightly, and Su Niannian patted Gu Nan’s back gently. “I’m very lucky. I have nothing at all!”
Gu Nan didn’t say anything, but he just embraced her.
