Chapter 29 : Shopping in the County Town. 

“Master, get up, get up!”  

Ye Suiwan was sleeping soundly when Xiaobao’s voice suddenly echoed in her mind, waking her up.  

Just as she was about to lose her temper, she remembered that she had asked someone to wake her up last night.  

After yawning, stretching, and drinking a glass of spiritual spring water, she was fully awake.  

After washing up, changing clothes, and eating a simple egg cake, she grabbed her backpack and water bottle, ready to head out.  

The yard was empty. This was the first time she had woken up so early since arriving here.  

As she stepped out of the yard, she saw that Xiao Yuyan was already waiting.  

“Ayan, have you been here long?”  

Ye Suiwan checked the time, it was still a few minutes before five o’clock.  

“Just got here. Have you eaten yet?”  

“I brought you some steamed buns and boiled eggs that my mom made. Want to try some?”  

After finishing his meal, Xiao Yuyan took out a bun wrapped in oil paper and two eggs from his pocket.  

The bun’s skin was smooth and slightly yellow, looking very tempting.  

Could Ye Suiwan say she was hungry?  

“Yes! One bun is enough for me. You can have the rest, including the egg.”  

Ye Suiwan assigned them directly.  

Anyway, Xiao Yuyan seemed to have a big appetite and could eat even after a meal. She also wanted him to eat more, she wanted to keep her man healthy in the future.  

The army canteen could provide enough food, but it was hard to eat well.  

“Alright, we ate the cakes you gave us last night. Mom and Nuannuan both praised them a lot.”  

Xiao Yuyan responded with a faint smile but still peeled an egg, wrapped it in oil paper, and handed it to Ye Suiwan along with a bun.  

“Oh, they got up so early?”  

Seeing the egg, Ye Suiwan didn’t refuse. She took it and took a bite of the bun first.  

It was stuffed with pork and celery, very fragrant.  

“Yeah, since we’re getting married, there’s a lot to do.”  

Xiao Yuyan breathed a sigh of relief when he saw her eating. It seemed like his wife wouldn’t be hard to feed.  

“It’s delicious. Auntie is a great cook.”  

Ye Suiwan praised with sparkling eyes.  

“Well, you’re also a good cook.”  

Xiao Yuyan curled his lips in a loving smile.  

“When you’re done, let’s go!”  

“I can eat on the bike, just ride slower.”  

Seeing that Xiao Yuyan had finished eating, Ye Suiwan handed him her water bottle.  

She didn’t want to waste time, so she ate a little slowly.  

“Alright!”  

After taking a sip of water, Xiao Yuyan felt his whole body warm up. But he had clearly drunk cold water, he decided to stop thinking about it since he couldn’t figure it out.  

Maybe Wanwan added something in it, the water had a faint sweetness.  

After eating a bun, an egg, and drinking a few sips of water, Ye Suiwan felt full.  

“We’ll go to town, store the bike, and then take the bus, right?”  

Seeing that there was no one on the road, Ye Suiwan wrapped her arms around Xiao Yuyan’s waist and asked.  

“Yeah, we’ll leave it with my comrade, Song Ning. He’s the chief of the police station. You should meet him, if you ever have any trouble when I’m not around, you can go to him. We have a good relationship, so don’t be shy.”  

Xiao Yuyan instructed.  

“Oh? Sure. Should we bring him a gift?”  

Ye Suiwan felt it would be impolite to go empty-handed.  

“No need, I’ve already talked to him.”  

“Alright!”  

Knowing that Xiao Yuyan had taken care of it, Ye Suiwan stopped worrying.  

When they arrived in town, Song Ning hadn’t gone to work yet, but someone at the police station knew Xiao Yuyan, so they parked the bike there.  

The two walked to the station and caught the first bus.  

There weren’t many people on board. Xiao Yuyan found two seats in the back and let Ye Suiwan sit inside.  

“If you’re sleepy, just lean on my shoulder and sleep. I’ll wake you when we arrive.”  

Ye Suiwan thought that was a good idea.  

“Okay!”  

She agreed.  

Xiao Yuyan had a faint scent of soapberries on him, which made her feel safe and comfortable. Smelling it, she quickly fell asleep.  

“Wanwan, wake up. We’re here.”  

It was unclear how much time had passed before a gentle voice reached her ears. Even though she was asleep in the noisy environment, she immediately recognized Xiao Yuyan’s voice.  

She slowly opened her eyes and asked in a hoarse voice,  

“We arrived?”  

“Yes, let’s wait for the people in front to leave first before we get off.”  

“Okay!”  

Saying that, Ye Suiwan wanted to stretch, but realizing it wasn’t the right place, she held back.  

This was her first time coming to the county since moving to the countryside. The journey was too far. She didn’t lack supplies, and the weather was hot, so she naturally didn’t want to travel unnecessarily.  

When her feet touched the ground, Ye Suiwan looked around. Everything was a dull gray.  

The county was naturally livelier than the township, there were more people on the streets, and many were riding bicycles.  

“Wanwan, this way, we’re going to the department store.”  

“Okay, I’ll follow you.”  

Xiao Yuyan was clearly more familiar with the place. Soon, they arrived at their destination.  

As soon as she stepped through the doors on the first floor, she could see there were quite a few items here, though not dazzling. Compared to the places she had visited in Beijing before, they were lacking.  

But even so, Ye Suiwan was very satisfied.  

“Wanwan, here’s some money. Keep it for today. The ‘three-turns-and-one-ring’ vouchers are in here too. I’m giving them to you, buy whatever you want.”  

“I’ll go find us a ride back later.”  

As Xiao Yuyan spoke, he took out a cloth bag and handed it to Ye Suiwan.  

She hadn’t expected there to be more money.  

Seeing her hesitation, Xiao Yuyan immediately understood.  

“It’s all here,” he explained.  

Ye Suiwan suddenly laughed.  

“I’ll give you some pocket money.”  

“But about the ‘three-turns-and-one-ring’ items, I already have a watch. I don’t plan to buy anything else for now. Let’s wait until I join the army, okay?”  

“Today, I mainly want to buy things for the house.”  

Hearing this, Xiao Yuyan knew she didn’t want to stay here long. Since she was willing to join the army, he had no objections.  

He actually wished he could take her with him now, but the conditions didn’t allow it.  

“Alright, I’ll listen to you. Buy whatever you want.”  

Ye Suiwan nodded in satisfaction.  

“Let’s go!”  

With a wave of her hand, she strode forward, skillfully starting to shop.  

Before long, Xiao Yuyan was carrying a pile of items.  

Double Happiness enamel plates, tin thermoses, enamel pots, peony flower pillowcases all for two people.  

She was lucky to find bright red quilt covers and bed sheets, perfect for a wedding.  

She also bought daily necessities: toothbrushes, toothpaste, and new towels.  

At the fabric section, she grabbed some fine cotton and a dark red plaid cloth. She also picked up pea green, light pink, and white Dacron fabric. By then, all of Xiao Yuyan’s fabric vouchers were used up, but luckily, she had more!  

“Wanwan, can you sew clothes?”  

Xiao Yuyan hadn’t expected it, but seeing the fabric she chose, he had a guess.  

“Yeah, I learned, but I haven’t done much. I’ll make some for you in the future.”  

Ye Suiwan replied softly.  

“Alright.”  

Xiao Yuyan couldn’t help but smile, looking forward to wearing clothes made by his wife.
