Chapter 30 : Return with a full load.

The two continued shopping and bought cigarettes, tea, candy, egg cakes, peach cakes, and glutinous rice sticks.  

Since childhood, Ye Suiwan had been used to eating snacks. She bought more whenever she saw them, unsure of when she would return next. She had money and wouldn’t treat herself poorly.  

“Can I buy these?”  

Still, Ye Suiwan asked Xiao Yuyan since they would be living together in the future.  

“Yeah, of course!”  

Xiao Yuyan’s salary had now increased to over 100 yuan. If possible, he hoped that Ye Suiwan would buy more food and daily necessities rather than being like his mother, who always needed reminders to spend on herself.  

Ye Suiwan observed his expression and eyes. Seeing his sincerity, she didn’t hold back.  

“I also have a small savings stash,” she whispered.   

Since she was marrying him, she might as well spend his money.  

Xiao Yuyan spoke seriously.  

“Alright, alright!”  

“Let’s head to the last place.”  

Ye Suiwan bought pens and plastic-covered notebooks for the three children in her family who were attending school.  

If they were in Beijing, her home would already have plenty, but here, she could only buy them now.  

“Okay, I’ve got everything I wanted. Is there anything else you need?”  

She confirmed their haul one last time and asked.  

“I don’t need anything. Just make sure you haven’t forgotten anything.”  

Xiao Yuyan replied.  

“I don’t think I have. Alright, let’s head out!”  

“Okay!”  

After leaving the department store, Xiao Yuyan packed up their belongings, fitting everything into two bags so that Ye Suiwan’s hands were free.  

“I have the strength, I can carry something!”  

“No need! Just stay close to me.”  

Xiao Yuyan refused outright.  

Ye Suiwan pouted, leaned in closer, and whispered,  

“You should buy some meat!”  

“I have quite a few meat coupons. I’ll give them to you when we get back.”

“Don’t worry, I’ve already arranged everything.”  

When he had bought the engagement gifts, he had already made arrangements for the wedding meal, he just needed to notify them a day in advance.

Ye Suiwan figured her father should be quick.

At the state-owned restaurant, they ordered a dish of braised pork, a plate of green vegetables, a bowl of meatball soup, and four steamed buns.  

After eating, she packed six large meat buns to take back for Jiang Sui.  

Xiao Yuyan already knew about her relationship with Jiang Sui from Ye Suiwan.  

“Should we bring him an extra portion of braised pork?”  

“No need!”  

Since his wife said no, she must have her reasons, so he didn’t press further.  

The two returned from the county with a full load.  

On their way back to town, they stopped at the post office.  

“Wanwan, wait here for me. I’ll go in and ask.”  

“Okay!”  

With so many things, it made sense for her to watch over them.  

After a while, Xiao Yuyan came out.  

One look at his expression was enough, no need to ask.  

“Wanwan, we’re getting our marriage certificate tomorrow morning.”  

“Mm.” Her father didn’t let her down.  

“I’m going to call home. Do you want to come with me?”  

Since they were already here, Ye Suiwan figured she might as well call her father again.  

“Alright!”  

“You go in first, I’ll grab the things.”

The call connected quickly.  

“Dad, it’s me, Sui Sui. Thank you. We’re getting our marriage certificate tomorrow. Are you happy?”  

Ye Chuang, who hadn’t even spoken yet, suddenly didn’t want to talk anymore.  

Was he happy? He didn’t think so.  

Clenching his fists, he reminded himself that this was his daughter and squeezed out a sentence from his throat.

Ye Suiwan could hear the jealousy in his voice.

She handed the receiver to Xiao Yuyan and stepped aside.  

“All done?”  

“Mm!”  

From Xiao Yuyan’s nervous, serious expression at the start to his relieved, earnest look at the end, Ye Suiwan could roughly guess what they talked about.  

She didn’t plan on asking.  

Men should have their own secrets.  

Besides, she knew it was all for her sake.  

“Let’s go home.”  

Now that the big matter was settled, both of them felt much more relaxed.  

At the entrance of the police station, Ye Suiwan took out two boxes of cigarettes she had intentionally placed on top and handed them to Xiao Yuyan.  

“Give these to your comrade later.”  

“I won’t go in this time.”  

It wouldn’t be appropriate to meet today, they should wait until the wedding.

Soon, he came back out, pushing the bicycle with their packed bags tied to the back seat.

She planned to inform the other educated youths at dinner.
