Chapter 27.1: Is this bastard really her biological dad?
Ye Tianhui thought of this annoying man and became very angry.
She didn’t know what status this man held, but now she had already made her plans.
She must trace her ancestry and return to the Ye family, she must become the daughter of the Ye family, and she must seize the resources of the Ye family to become the one in power!
She wanted to be prosperous and successful, to stand tall and look down on all.
This detestable man who looked down on others, that Ye Wenjing whose brain was full of water, and that hypocritical Ye Wenyin—when the time comes, she would trample them all underfoot, and they would have to kneel and cry and apologize to her!
But for now, the most urgent matter was to find a place to live so that she wouldn’t end up on the streets.
She hurried back to the old rental house and found the old woman. The old woman kindly said that the house had not been rented out yet, and that if she wanted to return, she could anytime.
With a backup plan for shelter, Ye Tianhui felt relieved and then went back to the stable.
She was about to be fired, and now, returning to the stable, her mood had changed. When she had come here, she had liked the place, the air conditioning, the shower. Even though she shared it with the horses, it still seemed fine. She even thought about buying a secondhand desk and table lamp so she could read books at night.
Even though there was the smell of horse manure in the air, it didn’t seem unpleasant.
But now, since she was about to be kicked out, she suddenly felt that the window panes had a cold, indifferent air, a kind of capitalist smell.
As she was packing, she suddenly heard some movement outside. It sounded like footsteps, very light, light enough to be like a bird gliding over the grass.
She stopped moving, looked out the window, and saw a thin figure—it was Lin Jianquan.
She was somewhat surprised, so she went over and opened the door.
The soft autumn sunlight poured down from the side, landing on the grass next to the stable, making the grass appear as if it had been coated with a halo.
But that soft light just happened to not shine on him.
He was wearing a black uniform, hidden in the shadow of the stable. His eyes were dark and calm, his lips thin and pale, tightly pressed together, quietly watching her.
It was a clear day, but Ye Tianhui could sense the loneliness and desolation.
He had long, thick eyelashes, and eyes as dark as ink. He was looking at her, as if he wanted to say something, but it seemed like he couldn’t make a sound—it was as if he had forgotten how to speak.
Ye Tianhui spoke first: “Don’t you have training today?”
She knew that the training for the Chong Zai was intense, and the rules were strict.
Lin Jianquan moved his lips with some difficulty and finally spoke, “You are leaving, right?”
His voice was particularly hoarse, as if he hadn’t had any water for several days and nights.
Ye Tianhui nodded, “Mm, you stay here and do your best.”
As she said this, Ye Tianhui also thought about it. With this kind of incident, the Ye family had abandoned him, and his situation might not be good. He might be punished or something. It seemed he could barely continue to stay at the racetrack.
Lin Jianquan’s eyelashes trembled, and he murmured, “I’ve caused trouble for you.”
Upon hearing this, Ye Tianhui smiled, “You really think too much. Don’t say such things. My leaving has nothing to do with you.”
Lin Jianquan lowered his eyes. He stood in front of Ye Tianhui, gently clenching his fist.
He had a pair of slender and beautiful hands, with faint blue veins clearly visible on the back of his hands. When he clenched his fist, the veins gently bulged.
Ye Tianhui felt as if a vigorous strength was slowly brewing within his extremely fragile body, and that strength was almost about to burst out.
He was desperately suppressing an emotion he could not control. If this emotion expanded to its limit, it could turn around and consume him.
She walked over, raised her hand, and grasped his fist.
His hand was cold and stiff, not the temperature that a warm-blooded creature should have.
When his fist was grasped by her, his body seemed to tremble.
Ye Tianhui held his trembling hand with a soft force, and softly said, “Trust me, my matters have nothing to do with you. It’s not because of this, it’s because of that. In any case, I will be driven away. I even suspect that it’s me who has caused trouble for you.”
Lin Jianquan’s eyelashes fluttered slightly. He raised his eyes to look at her, his gaze lonely and bewildered, like a lake surface covered in mist during a deep autumn day.
Ye Tianhui said seriously, “But this is nothing important. You don’t need to feel guilty toward me, and I won’t feel guilty toward you. Don’t talk about causing trouble. Actually, my approach to things has always been to solve the problem when it arises. You stay, do your best with your Chong Zai, and one day, you will surely dominate the racetrack and gallop across Hong Kong.”
“As for me, don’t worry. The path I took to Hong Kong was one where I walked on a furious sea and stepped on stormy waves. On this path, many people were buried at the bottom of the sea, losing their lives, but I survived and stepped onto Hong Kong. So, the fact that I’m alive and standing here already proves that I am lucky and blessed. No matter where I go, I can live well. Right now, this is just a small setback. I’m not afraid of anything.”
Lin Jianquan wiggled his lips. This time, he couldn’t make any sound. He stiffly nodded, then nodded again.
***********
On the weekend, Ye Tianhui buried herself in the stables, helping out with the work. This was because the Ye family was coming over on Monday. Due to the previous incident at the racetrack, the racetrack naturally wanted to salvage its reputation, so this time, the arrival of the Ye family was treated with special importance. All the arrangements for Monday had been planned in advance to avoid any mistakes.
Ye Tianhui worked busily, doing this and that, running errands here and there. Taking advantage of the opportunity, she kept an eye on the racetrack’s layout and also paid attention to the Ye family’s stables.
She had been paying attention to the situation with Black Rose before, but there had been no opportunity. This time, when Jessie mentioned Black Rose, it seemed that Black Rose’s condition hadn’t improved. At night, it barely ate any hay. Ye Tianhui felt that this was an opportunity for herself.
In her previous life, horses were naturally essential in the military. It was common for battle horses to fall ill. The military had special veterinarians, but in her spare time, Ye Tianhui would also keep an eye on the condition of the battle horses, so she was quite familiar with potential horse diseases.
Although medical advancements were rapid now, and the tricks she once mastered might not be as useful, horses were huge creatures, unlike humans who weighed only a few dozen kilograms. Current veterinary medicine for horses was still quite limited. Therefore, Ye Tianhui thought that her old experience might still be of some use.
Actually, from the various things during morning exercises, she had some vague suspicions. After all, it wasn’t an acute illness. The doctors hadn’t found anything using modern scientific methods, which had ruled out many unknown possibilities.
What she needed now was to see Black Rose, to take a close look at it, only then could she ensure there was no mistake.
However, unfortunately, due to the previous incident at the racetrack, it was obvious that the racetrack’s management had become stricter than before, and staff members between the stables were strictly prohibited from moving around.
Also, since she was about to be fired, she could only do some simple cleaning work and was not qualified to take the horses to the morning exercises, so throughout the weekend, she had no chance to sneak into the Ye family’s private stable to check on Black Rose.
She was rather helpless, but there was nothing she could do. In any case, on Monday, she had to find a way to meet with the Ye family’s Old Master, reveal her identity, and make a big deal out of it. At that time, even if they didn’t acknowledge her, they would have to.
If the Ye family, as a wealthy and powerful family, was heartless and ungrateful, then Ye Tianhui would be an unyielding tough person, not afraid of anything. After all, she was a legitimate member of the Ye family, and what could they do to her?
Moreover, she still held some hope for her biological father, hoping he would at least consider a little bit of family affection.
*********
At around 5 a.m. on Monday, the stable manager came to inspect and told Ye Tianhui to leave, saying a new horse had arrived, and the horse would be staying there soon. She was asked to make room quickly.
Ye Tianhui, still drowsy, couldn’t help but feel helpless. She never imagined that one day, as a general who helped the country, she would have to compete with a horse for a dormitory!
She could only plead, “I’m not refusing to leave, it’s just too early. At least give me some time to pack up. I’ll clean my own things, tidy up the stable, and prepare the feed. When the racehorse arrives, it’ll be in a good mood. Is that alright?”
Seeing this, the stable manager waved his hand and agreed.
Actually, everyone knew that in that moment of crisis, she had stepped forward and saved a Chong Zai’s life. Although a tragedy still occurred later, her courage was commendable. Everyone in the racetrack industry was involved in this line of work, and it was inevitable that they had some respect for her.
However, the orders from above were tough, and she had to be kicked out. Seeing her so pitiful now, they were naturally willing to give her a little more time.
The manager then instructed, “Once you’re packed up, leave. But you must be careful. When the Ye family arrives, you absolutely cannot let them see you.”
Ye Tianhui naturally agreed.
In fact, she was already very familiar with the racetrack’s layout. Even if she were kicked out, she could easily climb the wall and sneak back in without being discovered.
She whispered to herself, “Climbing over the wall feels like sneaking around, not exactly an aboveboard action. The best option is to stay here a bit longer.”
She leisurely packed her belongings, taking quite a while, and finally finished. She picked up her meager luggage and prepared to leave. Just as she was leaving, she heard the sound of cars in the distance.
Ye Tianhui peeked through the cracks in the adjacent stable and saw a grand procession of vehicles approaching. Although she wasn’t familiar with car models, her recent efforts to read newspapers and absorb local societal information had paid off. She recognized the leading vehicle as a Toyota, followed by several Maybachs and Rolls-Royces, cars that must be incredibly expensive, likely worth millions.
What was striking was the sheer number of cars, the presence of bodyguards, and the accompanying attendants. The grandeur of it all was comparable to the imperial processions of her era.
As she observed the scene, she felt as if her horizons had expanded. Reflecting on her earlier thoughts about trying to get a few thousand Hong Kong dollars from the Ye family, she suddenly felt naive.
Indeed, the poor often think emperors use golden hoes for farming. Her vision of a few thousand Hong Kong dollars seemed utterly childish and laughable in the face of such luxury.
The stable manager rushed over, saw Ye Tianhui, and immediately scolded her, “You’ve been dawdling for ages, and now look! The guests have already arrived. What am I supposed to do now?”
Ye Tianhui replied, “Should I leave immediately?”
The manager, frustrated, said, “Forget it. If you leave now, you’ll just be spotted, which might cause more trouble! You’d better hide somewhere and make sure you don’t come out until the guests leave.”
Ye Tianhui glanced at a nearby tool room and suggested, “How about I hide in the tool room? When they head over to the stables, I can take the opportunity to slip out unnoticed.”
The manager nodded reluctantly, “Fine.”
Relieved, Ye Tianhui hid in the tool room. Conveniently, the tool room was connected to the adjacent stables. When the time came, she could use this route to sneak directly into Black Rose’s stable.
She reasoned that the Ye family members would definitely visit Black Rose’s stable. That would be her chance.
Once she was securely hidden, the manager hurried away. From her vantage point in the tool room, Ye Tianhui peered out through a small window and saw a sea of bodyguards standing in formation, imposing and disciplined. Among them were well-dressed men who looked like secretaries, professional women in suits, and others who appeared to be attendants or maids. As for Ye Laoye or other members of the Ye family, there was no sign of them.
On reflection, this wasn’t surprising. Back in her day, the outings of the Sage were similarly grand. However, as a close minister accompanying the emperor, she had never truly understood what it felt like for the common people observing from afar.
Now, she dared not venture out. If she went out recklessly and failed to meet the Ye family members, she might end up being caught by the bodyguards instead.
She was acutely aware of the difficulty posed by lower-level individuals. She absolutely couldn’t fall into the hands of someone like Ye Wenyin. She had to meet the most important person—Ye Laoye.
After all, he was her biological grandfather. Once they met, she could employ her persuasive skills to convince him.
