“I didn’t,” Gu Yu was just about to explain when she felt her wrist ache even more.

“You still won’t admit it?”

“I was wrong, I was wrong, okay? Lu Lanlan, let go first, my wrist is about to break!” Gu Yu cried.

Seeing her tear up, Lu Lanlan loosened her grip slightly. “Do you really know you were wrong?”

“I do, I do,” Gu Yu nodded hastily.

Seeing this, Lu Lanlan let go and got off Gu Yu.

Whether Gu Yu truly admitted her mistake or not, after this incident, she surely wouldn’t dare to provoke her again. That was precisely Lu Lanlan’s goal in taking action.

Standing up straight, she glanced at Gu Yu on the ground and turned to leave. However, she accidentally stepped on the wooden stick she had thrown away earlier and fell backward.

Lu Lanlan felt a sharp pain in her head before losing consciousness.

Gu Yu was stunned by the scene. She only snapped back to her senses when she saw blood pooling beneath Lu Lanlan’s head. Immediately, she ran out to call for help.

Upon hearing the news, Fu Chunian rushed to the educated youth dormitory.

Seeing Lu Lanlan lying there lifelessly, his heart filled with panic.

However, he forced himself to remain calm, quickly picked her up, and ran toward the village.

Xu Xiangdong, upon hearing the news, immediately drove a tractor back to the village. Together, they quickly transported Lu Lanlan to the hospital.

When Lu Lanlan woke up, it was already noon the next day.

She looked around and realized she was in a hospital. After thinking for a moment, she recalled why she was there.

She raised her hand and touched the back of her head—there was already gauze wrapped around it.

It seemed that Gu Yu wasn’t completely heartless; at least she had found someone to send her to the hospital instead of letting her bleed out.

Lu Lanlan looked around again. The hospital room was empty.

Of course, except for close relatives, who would stay in the hospital to take care of a stranger?

“Creak—”

The door to the hospital room opened.

Lu Lanlan looked toward the doorway and saw Fu Chunian walking in with a kettle of hot water.

Seeing him, Lu Lanlan smiled.

She had forgotten she still had a fake boyfriend.

Fu Chunian was overjoyed to see her awake and quickly walked over with a smile.

“You’re awake! Do you feel uncomfortable anywhere? Do you want me to call a doctor?”

“I’m fine,” Lu Lanlan waved her hand with a smile. “Did you bring me to the hospital?”

“Yes.” Fu Chunian reached out to touch her forehead, confirming her temperature was normal before setting down the kettle.

“How long have I been here?” Lu Lanlan asked.

“A day. The wound on your head isn’t too serious,” Fu Chunian hesitated before continuing, “Don’t worry, I’ve already reported it to the police. Gu Yu has been taken away by them.”

“Oh, she deserves to be taught a lesson. She never changes. Just yesterday morning, she stepped on our vegetables, and in the afternoon, she was pulling them out,” Lu Lanlan said.

“The one who stepped on the vegetables wasn’t Gu Yu. It was that burly female educated youth,” Fu Chunian explained. “A villager saw her return to the dormitory at noon, and her shoe size matches the footprints.”

“Xu Xiangdong and the village head went to question her, and she admitted it.”

“Huh?” Lu Lanlan was surprised. So it wasn’t Gu Yu? “The morning incident wasn’t her, but I definitely saw her pulling the vegetables in the afternoon!”

“I heard from Xu Xiangdong that Gu Yu explained she accidentally stepped on a few while sun-drying her things. She thought about pulling them out and replanting them, but you happened to catch her in the act,” Fu Chunian said.

Sun-drying things? Lu Lanlan recalled the stick Gu Yu was holding. They did use sticks for hanging clothes…

Could Gu Yu be telling the truth? Had she misunderstood?

Even if the vegetable incident was a misunderstanding, Gu Yu had still tried to hit her with a stick!

“If she didn’t step on the vegetables, why did the police take her away?” Lu Lanlan asked.

“She hit you with a rock,” Fu Chunian glanced at the back of her head, hesitating.

“This counts as intentional injury. Of course, the police had to take her in.”

“?” Lu Lanlan looked at Fu Chunian in confusion. “Gu Yu said she hit me with a rock?”

“She didn’t admit it. She claimed that you accidentally hit your head on a rock when you fell,” Fu Chunian said, looking at her. “Now that you’re awake, she won’t be able to lie anymore.”

Hearing this, Lu Lanlan felt awkward. “Is it possible… that she wasn’t lying? That I actually tripped on the stick and hit my head on a rock myself?”

Fu Chunian was stunned. “You really fell on your own and weren’t hit by her?”

Lu Lanlan nodded.

Fu Chunian sighed, “Then I’ll call the police station to clarify.”

“Mm.”

After making the call, Fu Chunian bought some food for Lu Lanlan.

As they finished eating, the police arrived at the hospital to investigate. Lu Lanlan recounted everything truthfully.

When she mentioned straddling Gu Yu, Fu Chunian’s eyes flickered with disbelief.

After the police left, Lu Lanlan turned to Fu Chunian, “Since I’m awake now, why don’t we ask the doctor if I can be discharged?”

Fu Chunian glanced at her, nodded, and went to call the doctor.

After a check-up, the doctor confirmed that she could be discharged.

Lu Lanlan asked Fu Chunian to handle the discharge procedures, and they took a bus back to the village.

Meanwhile, at the police station, Gu Yu sat huddled in a corner, trembling with fear.

“Gu Yu,” a policeman entered and called her over. “Lu Lanlan has woken up. She confirmed that she fell by herself and that you had nothing to do with it. You’re free to go.”

Gu Yu stared in disbelief at the officer. It wasn’t until they unlocked her handcuffs and nudged her toward the exit that she realized she had heard correctly.

Lu Lanlan hadn’t taken the chance to frame her?

Back in the village, Lu Lanlan and Fu Chunian had just arrived when they ran into Gu Yu at the entrance.

Gu Yu approached. “Lu Lanlan, are you okay?”

“I’m fine. I misunderstood you about the vegetables. I’m sorry,” Lu Lanlan admitted. She was someone who acknowledged her mistakes.

“As long as you’re okay. Over time, as we get to know each other, you’ll trust me,” Gu Yu smiled—only to realize that was exactly what Lu Lanlan had once told her.

Lu Lanlan frowned. “You make it sound so easy, but yesterday afternoon, weren’t you about to hit me with a stick?”

“When did I try to hit you?” Gu Yu looked completely confused.

“Yesterday afternoon, when you were pulling out my vegetables!” Lu Lanlan accused.

“I didn’t! You misunderstood me, and no matter how I explained, you wouldn’t believe me. I was just anxious, trying to figure out how to make you believe me. Besides, you just helped me—why would I hit you?” Gu Yu explained.

“Maybe you unintentionally moved in a way that made Lu think you were attacking her,” Xu Xiangdong said, walking over.
