Chapter 35: The Perks of Being a Battalion Commander’s Wife

The car door opened, and Nan Fangjue got out, taking the things from her hands and putting them in the trunk.

“Get in.”

He quickly returned to the car.

Wen Yanyan touched her ear, opened the rear car door, got in with her book, and asked, looking at the back of his head, “Why are you here?”

“Taking care of some business.”

Nan Fangjue immediately drove off. Seeing Lin Sinan sprinting towards him in the rearview mirror, the corners of his mouth tightened, and a deep meaning flickered in his eyes.

Lin Sinan was about to explode. Seeing that he couldn’t catch up, how could two legs possibly outrun a four-wheeled vehicle?

Finally, he stopped.

Looking at the jeep disappearing into the distance, he roared, “Nan Fangjue! You little rascal, you’re going to pay for this when I get back!”

This guy was crazy. He had inexplicably made him stop the car and then inexplicably made him buy popsicles.

But when he reached the old popsicle vendor, before he could even buy one, he found that Nan Fangjue had driven off alone.

He’d been ditched!

Lin Sinan’s peach blossom eyes lost their sparkle in anger.

Inside the jeep.

“Don’t run anymore,” Nan Fangjue said suddenly, breaking the silence.

“Ah? Why? I’m trying to lose weight,” Wen Yanyan replied, leisurely enjoying the scenery. “Being a Battalion Commander’s wife has its perks; I even get to ride in a jeep.”

“Lose weight? Why run?”

Nan Fangjue had been in a bad mood ever since Lin Sinan saw Wen Yanyan jogging by the roadside.

“What’s wrong with running? It’s not only for weight loss, but also for exercise,” Wen Yanyan said, unaware of the seriousness of the situation, still looking around. “There are so many wheat fields, so green. It reminds me of a song, ‘Wind Blows Through the Wheat Waves’.”

“Can you just listen to me?” Nan Fangjue frowned.

“Of course, but it depends on what it is,” Wen Yanyan said decisively.

“Don’t ask why. I don’t have a reason, I just don’t want you to run. Can you agree?” Nan Fangjue, unable to give a reason, resorted to being blunt.

“Ah? If you insist, then I can listen to you. I won’t run anymore,” Wen Yanyan decided to compromise.

To get him, she had to pay a price. She didn’t want to upset him, so making some concessions wasn’t impossible. A woman who only reasoned wouldn’t appeal to a man.

Nan Fangjue’s expression improved slightly.

But it didn’t last three seconds.

“I can also jump rope to lose weight,” Wen Yanyan thought of another method.

“Jumping rope is also not allowed,” Nan Fangjue’s temper flared again. Jumping rope and running were similar; they both involved intense jumping.

“What’s wrong with you? Why not this either?” Wen Yanyan didn’t understand the problem, finally turning her gaze to the back of his head.

“I said no, and that’s that. Don’t ask why,” he stubbornly insisted.

“Oh my god, then tell me, how am I supposed to lose weight? Because of all this extra weight, you don’t even look at me!” Wen Yanyan got angry.

Even a new-age CEO couldn’t be so arbitrary.

Although, he was quite similar to one.

“You don’t need to lose weight. I like you chubby,” Nan Fangjue said insincerely to achieve his goal.

“Ah? Did I hear that right? You like chubby girls? You don’t care about figure?” Wen Yanyan’s eyes widened.

“I mean, you don’t need to rush to lose weight. You can take it slow, without any exercise,” Nan Fangjue corrected himself.

Oh.

Wen Yanyan returned to normal, startled. She almost gave up on losing weight for nothing.

“But I want to lose weight quickly. Being thin is pretty. I feel better when I look good. You won’t let me run or jump rope, then how about sit-ups? Is that okay?” Wen Yanyan had a little trick up her sleeve.

“Sit-ups are okay, but you have to do them at home,” Nan Fangjue imagined her exercising and thought this was acceptable.

“Will you hold my legs?” This exercise required someone to help.

“Okay.” Nan Fangjue agreed.

“Alright, I’ll do one hundred a day,” Wen Yanyan was in a good mood, already imagining the scene. Exercising with a handsome man by her side wasn’t bad.

But why didn’t he want her to run or jump rope? She didn’t understand.

Nan Fangjue dropped her off at the door and returned to headquarters; it was still work hours.

“Yanzi, you went to town again today, and you bought so many things,” Wang Dahua said, not climbing over the wall this time; she happened to meet Wen Yanyan as she went out.

“Yeah, I bought some chicken feet and some spices. Sister Dahua, where are you going?” Wen Yanyan was in a good mood, her smile radiant.

“I’m picking up the kids from school. Yanzi, is your Nan Tuan back?” Wang Dahua’s eyes were full of gossip.

“Yeah, he came back yesterday at noon,” Wen Yanyan blushed, remembering their awkward first meeting.

“Didn’t he recognize you?” Her gossipy gaze intensified.

“Ah, how did you know?” Wen Yanyan was surprised.

“I guessed. Okay, I have to go,” Wang Dahua left.

“Okay.”

Wen Yanyan turned back, opened the courtyard gate, went home, put down her things, took her book, and went back to her room.

She checked the time: eleven o’clock.

She put down her book and went into the kitchen. It was time to prepare lunch; Nan Fangjue would be home for lunch today.

Wen Yanyan first soaked the chicken feet in cold water and then prepared the ingredients. She decided to make soft, melt-in-your-mouth spicy chicken feet.

He was her first customer, and if she wanted to sell well, the food had to be delicious.

She had made spicy chicken feet abroad, and the taste was good. She even gave some to her foreign neighbors. They kept giving thumbs up, saying “Good, good,” and “Very good.”

But that was when she had all the necessary spices.

In this era, there was no chicken essence, no oyster sauce, only MSG, so the flavor might be a bit off.

She was unsure.

Lin Sinan returned to the army at marching speed, his head covered in sweat.
