Chapter 204: Adhesives
Yu Xiangyang was so angry that he was panting heavily.
Yu Xiangnian patted him on the back. “Calm down first. If you get so worked up that you can’t even think straight, how can you talk about dating?”
Yu Xiangyang was even angrier. “Are you going to help or not?”
“Help!” Yu Xiangnian was firm. “You’re the only brother I have who’s still single. If I don’t help you, who will? But let me think of a solution. Mom and Dad are also upset right now, so wait until I can calm them down before we discuss this.”
Yu Xiangyang thought it made sense and finally calmed down. “It’s worth it, considering how good I’ve been to you!”
However, he remembered something else and snorted coldly. “That Cheng Jingmo, I asked him to think of a way over the phone, and he said he won’t handle it!”
“Don’t be angry,” Yu Xiangnian comforted him. “Think about it. Even if he wanted to help, he wouldn’t be able to. Could he persuade Mom and Dad, or persuade Xia Qingyun? How could he manage that?”
Yu Xiangyang agreed with that.
Yu Xiangnian then shifted the topic to Xia Qingyun.
“Did you tell her that Mom and Dad don’t like her?” Yu Xiangnian asked.
Because her sister-in-law said that even though Xia Qingyun’s visit was sudden, the family was still very warm toward her.
How did she know that the family didn’t like her?
Yu Xiangyang said, “I’m not stupid enough to tell her that. She sensed it herself that day. When I was taking her home, she suggested we break up.”
No wonder Yu Xiangyang had a big fight with Zhao Ruozhu when he got home; he must have felt that Xia Qingyun was upset at home.
Yu Xiangnian said flatly, “She’s quite perceptive, noticing everything.”
Yu Xiangyang said, “She mentioned that whenever she has time, she wants to arrange an outing with you all.”
Yu Xiangnian replied, “Sure.”
She also wanted to get to know Xia Qingyun better.
By discussing things with Yu Xiangyang, Yu Xiangnian learned more.
Yu Xiangyang and Xia Qingyun had known each other for almost a year. That day, Xia Qingyun was moving some equipment for a performance.
The equipment was too heavy, and she accidentally fell. Yu Xiangyang happened to pass by and helped her, leading to their acquaintance.
As time went on, they developed feelings for each other.
They confirmed their relationship privately in October of the previous year. They secretly dated for over two months before Yu Xiangyang was sent on a mission in the mountains.
He was away for nearly three months, and during that time, Yu Xiangyang didn’t know if he would make it back alive.
While writing his will, he secretly decided that if he survived, he would bring Xia Qingyun to meet his parents.
Sure enough, he brought her home even before his leg had fully healed!
Yu Xiangnian could feel Yu Xiangyang’s sincerity, and she hoped that Xia Qingyun was also sincere with him.
Yu Xiangyang then talked about Xia Qingyun’s family background.
Xia Qingyun was from the Northeast region. Her biological father died when she was very young, and her mother remarried.
Her mother and stepfather had another son and daughter, plus her stepfather had a daughter four years older than Xia Qingyun. So there were a total of four children in the family.
Her stepsister married the deputy director of a local knitting factory three years ago.
Xia Qingyun joined the army at sixteen and joined the art troupe. This year marked her fourth year in the service.
At twenty, she was also at the age for discussing marriage.
“Yu Xiangyang, do you know someone named Bai something-de? He’s also from your unit and knows Xia Qingyun.”
Yu Xiangnian recalled that the first time she met Xia Qingyun, she was with this man.
“Bai Dewen!” Yu Xiangyang quickly remembered. “He’s from the same hometown as Xia Qingyun and takes good care of her.”
It turned out that Xia Qingyun and Bai Dewen were from the same hometown, which explained why they seemed to have such a good relationship.
While they were chatting, Cheng Jingmo and Yu Jianshun were talking in the study.
This time, their discussion lasted a bit longer, taking over two hours before they emerged.
When they came out, the first thing they saw was Yu Xiangnian and Yu Xiangyang sitting on the sofa, leaning against each other’s shoulders and whispering something.
Since their last argument with the family, Yu Xiangyang had been like a porcupine, ready to argue at the slightest provocation.
It was rare to see him calm and sitting down for a chat like this.
For a moment, Yu Jianshun seemed to see them as children again, resting together after playing.
At that moment, Yu Jianshun’s eyes felt a bit swollen.
Having a daughter is wonderful; she acts as the glue of the family in times like this.
It was getting late, so Yu Xiangnian and Cheng Jingmo decided to stay at the house for the night.
Yu Xiangnian returned the envelope Zhao Ruozhu had given her before, without opening it.
Zhao Ruozhu opened it and was surprised. “Why is there not a single cent used?”
“We have money. You and Dad keep this. In the future, if Yu Xiangyang gets married, there will be plenty of places to spend money.”
Zhao Ruozhu was both pleased with Yu Xiangnian’s thoughtfulness and frustrated with Yu Xiangyang’s stubbornness.
“If he insists on marrying Xia Qingyun, I won’t spend a single cent!”
Yu Xiangnian said, “Don’t rush to confront Yu Xiangyang. He’s not getting married to her right now, so what are you in a hurry for? Let me get to know Xia Qingyun first.”
Zhao Ruozhu said, “I have always been good at judging people! If something happens to our family, or if Yu Xiangyang ends up bedridden, Xia Qingyun would never stay with him!”
Yu Xiangnian: “…”
Recently, she was talking about being bedridden herself, and now it’s Yu Xiangyang. Couldn’t she hope they remain healthy and active?
That night, while going to bed, Yu Xiangnian said to Cheng Jingmo, “Cheng Jingmo, subtly find out where Yu Xiangyang and Xia Qingyun stand in their relationship.”
Cheng Jingmo asked, “Where do they stand?”
“You know, whether they’re holding hands, hugging, or kissing, how far have they gone?” It couldn’t be that they were already at the stage of sleeping together!
Cheng Jingmo said, “At most, they’ve just held hands. Nothing more.”
“How can you be so sure they’re only at that stage when you just got back today?”
Cheng Jingmo: “…” He felt a bit exasperated!
“Yu Xiangnian!” Cheng Jingmo’s tone was serious. “Yu Xiangyang is different from you. To us, if we kiss someone, we’re responsible for her for a lifetime!”
Yu Xiangnian: “Oh…”
From their conversation today, it seemed Yu Xiangyang just wanted to have a legitimate relationship with Xia Qingyun and wasn’t thinking about marriage yet.
It looked like Cheng Jingmo was right!
Wait a minute! What does he mean that Yu Xiangyang is different from her?!
“Cheng Jingmo, what do you mean by that?” Yu Xiangnian asked, pouting, “What does it mean that Yu Xiangyang is different from me? And what do you mean by ‘people like you’?”
Cheng Jingmo gave an understanding look.
“Speak!” Yu Xiangnian twisted his arm, though it was too firm to move.
Cheng Jingmo said, “For us soldiers, there are no goodnight kisses or greeting kisses. Once we kiss someone, we are committed to her for life!”
Yu Xiangnian was stunned for a moment, then burst into laughter.
She remembered how, in the past, she would talk about goodnight kisses and Cheng Jingmo would get so mad he’d walk away.
Yu Xiangnian gave him a deep kiss on the lips. “I will be responsible for you for life, alright?”
