Chapter 210: Injured
As Yu Xiangnian left the military hospital and had just exited the hospital building, she saw a military-green jeep speeding in and coming to a sudden stop in front of the building.
The doors on both sides of the vehicle opened, and two men got out from the back seat. One of them was carrying a woman on his back.
The other man followed behind, “Be careful, don’t jostle her head too much.”
Yu Xiangnian glanced at the woman on the man’s back and was shocked.
Wasn’t that Xia Qingyun?
She had her eyes closed, with a bloody wound on her left forehead, suggesting she had fainted or was unconscious.
Another jeep sped in, and an older man and three women got out of it.
The man’s face was dark as he said, “You guys usually have little spats, but today you actually dared to hurt a comrade! If anything happens to her, I will report all of you to the higher-ups!”
A girl around Xia Qingyun’s age, with reddened eyes, stubbornly lifted her chin and said, “I told you I didn’t push her! She fell down by herself!”
The man turned and scolded her, “So many people saw it, and you still deny it?!”
The girl: “…”
Since Xia Qingyun was injured, Yu Xiangnian definitely needed to check on her. If the injuries were severe, she might be able to help.
Xia Qingyun was taken into the examination room, and the group of men and women waited outside.
Yu Xiangnian stayed at a distance, sitting on a bench nearby, waiting for the results.
At this moment, the man who had been carrying Xia Qingyun said, “Comrade, Peng Jiali always causes trouble for Xia Qingyun. This time, because of a little argument, she pushed Xia Qingyun down the stairs.”
Peng Jiali angrily said, “Yes! You all believe everything Xia Qingyun says, but you don’t believe me!”
“Xia Qingyun didn’t say anything; we saw it!” The man scanned the people around him and continued, “I, Lian Feng, Ou Xia, and Lan Yuli, all saw you push her down!”
Peng Jiali looked at the two women next to her, hoping they would support her, but both women turned their heads away from her gaze.
The implication was clear; they had also seen Peng Jiali push Xia Qingyun.
Peng Jiali raised her head and said firmly, “If I did it, I’d admit it! If I didn’t do it, I didn’t do it. Even if you report it to the military zone, I still didn’t do it!”
“Comrade, look at her! So many of us saw it, and she still denies it!” The man was enraged by Peng Jiali’s attitude, “Everyone think about it: if Xia Qingyun is injured, who benefits most?”
Upon hearing this, everyone was taken aback and looked at Peng Jiali with more discerning eyes.
Peng Jiali, hearing this, became furious, “Zhao Jungang! You need to have evidence when you speak!”
“Isn’t it obvious?” Zhao Jungang retorted, “Xia Qingyun fell down the stairs, so she must be injured! If she’s injured, she’ll have to rest and can’t participate in rehearsals, which means the lead role will fall to whom?”
Peng Jiali, with her violent temper, turned red with anger at this accusation. She waved her hands to hit Zhao Jungang but was restrained by Ou Xia and Lan Yuli.
Peng Jiali, distressed, shouted, “Stop slandering me! You all are just her lackeys! Even if I wanted the lead role, I wouldn’t do something like this!”
Zhao Jungang shot back, “We saw you push her, and you still deny it! It’s not surprising you’d do something like this!”
Peng Jiali shouted, “I didn’t push her, so I didn’t! What is there to admit?!”
“Enough!” The leader yelled, “Everyone be quiet! Anyone who continues to argue will be reported and sent home!”
Everyone fell silent at once.
Yu Xiangnian had heard enough to understand the general situation.
Peng Jiali and Xia Qingyun had always been at odds, and with their competition for the lead role, they had argued today, resulting in Peng Jiali accidentally pushing Xia Qingyun down the stairs.
Yu Xiangnian hadn’t expected that even someone as meticulous as Xia Qingyun would have conflicts with colleagues.
The door to the examination room opened.
The doctor said, “The patient has a mild concussion and needs to rest for a few days. You can take her to the ward now.”
The leader asked, “Doctor, are there any other injuries? How long will she need to rest?”
The doctor replied, “The head wound has been treated and bandaged. She has a few soft tissue bruises, but they’re not serious. A week’s rest should be sufficient.”
Everyone relaxed a bit.
Since the injuries weren’t severe, Yu Xiangnian decided to inform Zhao Ruozhu about the situation first and then come back to visit Xia Qingyun.
Yu Xiangyang would definitely be running to the hospital for the next few days, so she needed to give Zhao Ruozhu a heads-up to avoid any potential conflicts when they saw each other.
When Zhao Ruozhu heard that the patient would be in the hospital for a few days, she replied with a nonchalant tone, “The more you fear something, the more it happens! I was planning to introduce Dr. Tian from our hospital to Yu Xiangyang!”
Now, with Yu Xiangyang constantly at the hospital, everyone would know about his special relationship with Xia Qingyun.
How could she introduce someone else now?!
Yu Xiangnian advised her, “Mom, you should put that idea aside for now. Yu Xiangyang definitely won’t want to meet him. You should arrange for more attention on the patients in the ward.”
Zhao Ruozhu replied, “I know without you telling me.”
When Yu Xiangnian arrived at the ward, she heard a commotion inside.
The argument was about whether Peng Jiali had pushed Xia Qingyun.
Zhao Jungang said, “Xia Qingyun, tell the leader directly if Peng Jiali was the one who pushed you.”
Xia Qingyun remained silent.
Zhao Jungang urged, “Xia Qingyun, you can’t keep enduring this! With our testimony, you should speak out boldly!”
After a long wait, Xia Qingyun finally spoke, her voice sounding weak, “Peng Jiali didn’t do it on purpose.”
Then came Peng Jiali’s angry voice, “Xia Qingyun! What are you saying? When did I push you? We argued today, but I didn’t touch you; you fell down by yourself!”
Xia Qingyun replied gently, “Just consider it as if I fell by myself. I don’t want to talk about it anymore.”
The leader’s voice grew stern, “Peng Jiali, Xia Qingyun, what were you arguing about today?”
Both were silent.
The leader said, “Lan Yuli, you speak!”
Lan Yuli’s timid voice answered, “They argued about who should get the lead role.”
The leader said, “Can a fight between you two decide who gets the lead role? Didn’t I say that after a week of practice, the best performer will be chosen?”
Zhao Jungang said, “Leader, isn’t it obvious? With Xia Qingyun injured, the lead role will have to go to Peng Jiali!”
He paused and continued, “Leader, if Peng Jiali succeeds this time, who knows what more outrageous things she might do next time!”
Peng Jiali shouted, “I told you, I didn’t do it!”
