Chapter 103: Checking the Scores

The moment Ling Yao and Ling Xuemei walked into the living room, everyone’s eyes were fixed on them.

 In those gazes, there was scrutiny, examination, disdain, contempt, and surprise.

Facing these gazes, Ling Yao and Ling Xuemei showed no fear. They remained calm and composed.

“They’re supposed to be from the countryside. Why do they seem to have such an aura? They don’t have that rustic air at all.”

“Maybe they’re just pretending. They’ll reveal their true colors later.”

“That little girl is really beautiful. She perfectly combines Yanting’s good features.”

“That mother and daughter have such fair skin. There’s not a single blemish on their faces.

 If I didn’t know they were from the countryside, I would have thought they were some family’s wife and daughter.” Everyone was buzzing with discussion.

Ji Yanting took Ling Xuemei and Ling Yao’s hands, gave them an encouraging smile, and looked at everyone, “Big brother! Second sister! Little sister! Let me introduce you.

 These are my wife and daughter, Xuemei and Yaoyao. Yaoyao, this is your uncle, your second aunt, and your third aunt.”

“Uncle! Second aunt! Third aunt!” Ling Yao greeted everyone politely.

“Yaoyao, I heard you just finished the college entrance exam. Have your scores come out? How did you do?

Can you get into a university in Beijing?” The second aunt smiled at Ling Yao. Her smile seemed friendly but didn’t reach her eyes.

Knowing that her brother was bringing his country wife and daughter back, she had deliberately checked on the mother and daughter.

 Naturally, she knew some things about Ling Yao’s past.

 This made her look down on Ling Yao. How could someone like her be worthy of being a child of their Ji family?

“The scores haven’t come out yet.” Ling Yao answered frankly. Before leaving, she had deliberately called to check her scores, but she couldn’t find them.

“Not out yet? No way. I checked my scores yesterday. I got 653 points.

You wouldn’t be embarrassed to say it because you didn’t do well, would you?”

 Ji Youran pretended to be surprised, but the sarcasm in her words was very obvious.

“Youran.” Ji Yanting looked at Ji Youran unhappily.

“Third brother, Youran is right. The college entrance exam scores came out the day before yesterday.

 Even if Yaoyao really didn’t do well this time, there’s no need to be embarrassed. We’re all family.” The third aunt, Ji Xiuping, said with a smile.

“If you didn’t do well this time, there’s always next year. You can take it again next year.

After all, not everyone is like our Youran, a natural born scholar.” The second aunt, Ji Xiuzhen, had a smug smile on her face.

“My Yaoyao’s scores just haven’t come out yet. You don’t need to mock her. Be careful of karma.” Ji Yanting was very confident in Ling Yao.

“Cut it out!” Ji Xiuzhen rolled her eyes almost to the sky.

“Second sister.” Ji Yanting frowned and glared at Ji Xiuzhen.

“Dad! I’m fine.” Ling Yao looked at everyone and smiled slightly. “There’s no need for me to lie about this.

 If you don’t believe me, you can check it right now.” Her voice was calm and firm, with an undeniable power.

“Okay, then check it right now. Don’t cry later.” Ji Youran was afraid that Ling Yao would change her mind.

She quickly walked to the phone and deliberately pressed the speakerphone button to start dialing.

“What’s your exam number?”

“Youran, don’t be silly.” Ji Yanting reprimanded her.

Ling Yao smiled and shook her head at Ji Yanting. She gave her exam number.

Ji Youran repeated it to the person on the phone.

“Hello! I have found Ling Yao’s score.

Her score in Chinese is 118, math is 120, physics is 100, chemistry is 100, politics is 100, foreign language is 100, biology is 50.

Her total score is 688 points. She is this year’s top scorer in Yunan Province. Congratulations to Ling Yao!”

Silence.

Dead silence.

Everyone stared at Ling Yao, their eyes filled with shock and disbelief. Her total score on the college entrance exam was 688 points. The total score was only 690 points.

Didn’t that mean she was only two points away from a perfect score? It was unbelievable!

Ji Youran shook her head in disbelief, “Did you check it wrong? Can you check it again?” She couldn’t believe Ling Yao’s score was so good.

She thought she could completely crush Ling Yao with her 653 points. But Ling Yao’s score was so good. She only lost two points in Chinese.

“We have gone through rigorous verification. The scores are absolutely correct.” The person on the phone confirmed.

Ji Youran felt like she had been struck by an invisible force. She wilted like a frost-bitten eggplant, listless.

Everyone’s gaze fell on Ling Yao with complex emotions. The faces that had been filled with pride and mockery were now filled with embarrassment, as if they had been slapped hard. It burned.

Thinking back to how smug and sarcastic they had been towards Ling Yao, they wished they could find a hole to crawl into to escape this embarrassing situation.

“Yaoyao, you’re amazing!” Ling Xuemei couldn’t contain her excitement. Tears of joy welled up in her eyes. She stepped forward and hugged Ling Yao tightly.

She had always known that her daughter was talented and that her score wouldn’t be bad, but she never imagined that her daughter’s score would be so outstanding.

Ji Yanting was equally excited. His face was filled with excitement. He gave Ling Yao a thumbs up and his voice trembled slightly, “Yaoyao, Dad is proud of you.”

Ling Yao smiled slightly. The smile was like a spring flower blooming, beautiful and calm, without a hint of pride.

“Yaoyao, have you thought about which university you want to go to?” Ji Yuanming asked with a smile. His sister was truly unexpected.

With such excellent scores, she was not only the top scorer in the province but probably the top scorer in the country.

Ji Yuanbo and Ji Yuanzhou were also excited. They looked at Ling Yao with excitement, their eyes filled with pride and joy.

This was their sister. Their sister was so amazing and incredible. They were proud of her!

“Kyoto University.” Ling Yao said. She already had a clear goal in mind. Kyoto University was the university she had always dreamed of attending.

 It held her previous life’s ideals and aspirations.

Kyoto University had a rich history and was a temple of knowledge, the academic holy land she had always longed for.

Ji Yuanming smiled and gave Ling Yao a thumbs up, “Big brother will take you to school when it starts.”

Ji Yuanzhou wasn’t to be outdone. He immediately said, “Second brother will accompany you too. If you need anything, just tell Second brother.”

“And me too. Sister, Third brother is also a student at Kyoto University now. We’ll be schoolmates.”

Ji Yuanzhou pointed at himself. It was so wonderful to be at the same school as his sister!

“Okay, brothers!” Ling Yao smiled and nodded. A warm current flowed through her heart.

 She knew that her brothers had accepted her and truly treated her as their sister.

At this moment, a figure walked in from outside.

Everyone looked at the person, their faces filled with surprise.
