Chapter 16: Driven Mad

Ling Yao swallowed the food in her mouth, “I have a friend who runs a pharmaceutical factory.

I’ve been talking to him about a partnership recently.” Her mother would find out sooner or later, so she wasn’t hiding it from her.

“A partnership?” Ling Xuemei was a little surprised.

Ling Yao put down her chopsticks, “Didn’t Grandpa leave a recipe for medicinal wine? I’m planning to take that recipe and put it into production, then market the medicinal wine.”

Her grandfather was a traditional Chinese medicine doctor, and her mother’s medical skills were taught by him.

“Will that work? And where will you get the funds?” Ling Xuemei thought it was impractical.

“You silly child.” Ling Xuemei was amused and also picked up a piece of braised pork and put it into Ling Yao’s bowl, “Then Mom will wait for the day you make a fortune.” Her Yaoyao had grown up.

Laughter filled the room, the atmosphere warm and joyful.

 She saw Zhou Yu climbing over the wall and sneaking into the infirmary. She knew Zhou Yu was up to no good again.

Zhou Yu gently pushed open the door of the infirmary and started rummaging through the medicine cabinet.

She had lived with the Ling family for a long time in her past life and had learned some medical skills from Ling Xuemei, so she knew the effects of these medicines well.

“Who’s in there?” Ling Yao’s voice came from outside.

Zhou Yu was startled and quickly closed the medicine cabinet, quickly diving under the table.

Ling Yao pushed open the door of the infirmary, turned on the light, and looked around. A hint of mockery flashed in her eyes.

 She walked calmly to the table, her foot stepping right on Zhou Yu’s hand, which she hadn’t had time to retract. She even stomped on it.

Zhou Yu almost cried out in pain. She quickly covered her mouth with her other hand.

 If Ling Yao found her here, she wouldn’t let her go. So, she couldn’t let her find out. However, she would get revenge sooner or later.

“No one? Is it a rat?” Ling Yao looked around, putting more force on her foot. She was sure that Zhou Yu’s hand would be swollen like a carrot in the next few days. It was all her own fault.

Zhou Yu endured the pain as best she could. Cold sweat poured from her forehead, and her entire face contorted with pain.

Damn Ling Yao, she wouldn’t let her go. She would make her suffer like in her past life, crawling on the ground and being trampled under her feet.

Ling Yao seemed to hear the sound of bone cracking. She smiled slightly, retracted her foot, yawned, and walked out.

Whether intentionally or unintentionally, as she walked, she accidentally knocked over a bottle of purple iodine on the table.

The purple iodine flowed down from the table, drenching Zhou Yu, who was hiding under the table, head to toe.

Ling Yao stood by the window, watching Zhou Yu open the courtyard gate and leave.

She couldn’t help but smile. Zhou Yu probably wouldn’t come back for the next few days. After all, that purple iodine wasn’t easy to wash off.

Zhou Yu, covered in purple iodine, returned to the Gu family. Just as Mrs. Gu came out to use the toilet, she saw her and screamed in fright. Her eyes rolled back, and she fainted.

The Gu family heard the commotion and rushed out of their rooms. Seeing Zhou Yu’s appearance, they were also startled.

Gu Qingan recognized Zhou Yu and frowned at her, “Xiaoyu, what happened to you?” Her face and body were covered in purple, making her look like a terrifying ghost in the night.

“I… I… I accidentally knocked over the purple iodine…” Zhou Yu lowered her head and sobbed softly. She didn’t know how to explain it.

She couldn’t say that she went to Ling Yao’s house to steal something, then Ling Yao stepped on her finger and poured purple iodine all over her, could she?

Gu Qingan was speechless and helpless, “Go take a bath.” He didn’t know what to say. Even if she knocked over the purple iodine, it wouldn’t be all over her head and face, would it?

“Mm.” Zhou Yu, with red eyes, limped towards her room. As she passed by the mirror, she saw her reflection and screamed in fright.

“What’s wrong?” Gu Qingan had just helped Mrs. Gu back into the room when he heard the commotion and rushed over.

In the morning, a rooster’s crow broke the silence of the mountain village.

Ling Yao got up early and started running around the village. She needed to lose this weight quickly. Being fat was not only unhealthy, but it also made everything inconvenient.

Ling Yao must regret breaking off their engagement and wanted to get his attention, so she deliberately ran in front of him early in the morning to seek attention. He wouldn’t fall for it and wouldn’t even look at her.

“You’re crazy.” Ling Yao rolled her eyes in disbelief. Fortunately, she had no feelings for this man in this life.

 Now, she just wanted to say to him, “I’ll send you away to a place a thousand miles away.”
