Chapter 183: Apology
Ling Yao glanced at the policeman with the corner of her eye, a cold smile playing on her lips, “Just now, this person was saying that I assaulted someone. He not only wanted to detain me but also forced me to give my money to these two people who were extorting me.”
She shook her head helplessly, sighing, “Forget it, I’ll just stay here honestly. At least they provide food and accommodation here, and the conditions are pretty good.”
Hearing this, Li Guang turned to glare at the policeman, his face dark and frightening, “Yang Zhiheng, you better give me a reasonable explanation. Also, apologize to Comrade Ling Yao immediately!”
Yang Zhiheng trembled at Li Guang’s glare. He glanced at the two men, took a step forward and stood beside Li Guang, lowering his voice, “Director Li, there are some things I want to talk to you about privately.” He pointed to the door.
Li Guang’s face was as dark as water. He turned to Ling Yao and squeezed out a forced smile, “Comrade Ling Yao, please wait a moment. I’ll go deal with something and be right back.”
He looked at the policeman who was taking Ling Yao’s statement, “You hurry up and get Comrade Ling Yao a cup of hot tea.”
Li Guang followed Yang Zhiheng out of the interrogation room, looking at him coldly, “Go on.”
“Director Li, those two are from the Zhu family. We can’t afford to offend them.” The Zhu family was a powerful family in Beijing. He was just a small policeman. How could he dare to offend them?
Li Guang sneered, “Then do you know who Ling Yao is? Do you know who called me just now?”
“Who is she?” Yang Zhiheng was also very curious about this.
“She’s the daughter-in-law of the Lu family, the eldest daughter of the Ji family, and the savior of Chu eldest son from the Chu family.”
With each identity Li Guang revealed, Yang Zhiheng’s legs grew weaker. Whether it was the Lu family, the Ji family, or the Chu family, they were all people he, a small fry, couldn’t afford to offend.
Recalling his rude attitude towards Ling Yao just now, Yang Zhiheng was drenched in cold sweat and his face was as pale as paper, “Director Li… I… What should I do… Please help me…”
He knew that he had angered Ling Yao. Just now, in order to curry favor with the Zhu family, he had falsely accused Ling Yao. He had not only verbally threatened her but also wanted to detain her. Now, he really wanted to slap himself a few times.
Li Guang let out a contemptuous snort, “Go apologize to her now. Whether she forgives you or not depends on your luck.”
Ling Yao heard footsteps and set down the teacup. She turned to look at Li Guang and Yang Zhiheng, who were walking in.
Yang Zhiheng walked to Ling Yao and bowed to her, “Comrade Ling Yao! I’m sorry! I didn’t investigate properly and wronged you. I apologize. I hope you can forgive me this time.”
Seeing Yang Zhiheng’s attitude, the two men knew they were finished.
Ling Yao smiled faintly, “If I was just an ordinary person with no background, would you apologize to me now?”
Faced with Ling Yao’s questioning, Yang Zhiheng was speechless. But he knew in his heart that if she was just an ordinary person, he wouldn’t have apologized to her in such a humble way.
Ling Yao sneered, “You wouldn’t. So, why should I forgive you?”
Yang Zhiheng became anxious, “But I have truly realized my mistake. Please believe me. I will never make such a mistake again from now on.”
Ling Yao remained unmoved. She shook her head gently, “The police profession is an honorable and sacred one. It carries the responsibility of upholding social justice and seeking justice for the people. If you can’t be fair and just, then you don’t deserve to be in this position.”
“Comrade Ling Yao! I will report this matter to my superiors. I will definitely deal with Yang Zhiheng seriously.” Li Guang stated.
Yang Zhiheng’s face turned pale as he collapsed on the ground. He was supposed to be promoted next month. Now, everything was ruined.
Ling Yao nodded in satisfaction, turning to the two men, “Director Li, I want to report them. They extorted me and falsely accused me of assault.”
“Don’t worry! We will definitely deal with this matter seriously. We will not let any bad guys get away with it.” Li Guang assured her.
“Thank you, Director Li! Then I’ll go now.”
“You’re welcome! I’ll see you out. Your friends are waiting for you at the door.”
Ma Meifang, her daughters, and the young man breathed a sigh of relief when they saw Ling Yao come out.
“Ling Yao, are you okay?” Ma Meifang asked worriedly, looking at Ling Yao.
“I’m fine. Don’t worry.” Ling Yao shook her head gently.
Ji Yuanming relaxed slightly, but the concern in his eyes didn’t diminish at all, “Dad and Aunt Ling were very worried when they heard you were at the police station. I’ll take you home now.”
“I still have some things to deal with.”
“Then I’ll accompany you. Get in the car.” Ji Yuanming walked over and opened the passenger door for Ling Yao.
Ma Meifang, her daughters, and Fang Qi stood there, looking at each other, unsure if they should get in the car too.
“Get in the car too.” Ling Yao called out to Ma Meifang and the others.
“Oh!” Ma Meifang and Fang Qi nodded, walked over, opened the car doors, and carefully got in.
After everyone got in and closed the doors, Ji Yuanming asked, “Where to?”
“To East Street.”
Ji Yuanming nodded and stepped on the gas pedal.
The car sped forward like an arrow, quickly disappearing into the traffic.
Ma Meifang kept sneaking glances at Ji Yuanming. She knew who Ji Yuanming was. He was also a regiment commander. But she was curious about the relationship between Head Ji and Ling Yao.
“Ling Yao, are you friends with Head Ji?” Ma Meifang finally couldn’t hold back her question.
Hearing Ma Meifang’s question, Ling Yao turned and smiled faintly at Ma Meifang, “He’s my older brother.”
“Older… brother?!” Ma Meifang couldn’t believe her ears. Before, she had heard Zhang Huzi mention Head Ji’s identity. He said that Head Ji’s background was extraordinary.
He was the eldest son of the Ji family in Beijing. The Ji family was a famous and powerful family in Beijing. So, did that mean Ling Yao was the eldest daughter of the Ji family?
