Chapter 185: News of His Daughter
The anger in Old Master Zhu’s heart grew even more intense. His sharp gaze pierced through Zhu Yunchang, who had remained silent the whole time, “Tell me! What happened!”
Zhu Yunchang knew he couldn’t avoid it anymore. He slowly raised his head, meeting Old Master Zhu’s sharp, hawk-like gaze. He trembled slightly, “Dad! It’s all because of the daughter the Ji family just reunited with. Today, our men went to collect a debt.
They happened to run into her. Later, they all went to the police station together. Afterwards, the Lu family, the Ji family, and the Chu family all took action. They investigated and found out that those two men were our Zhu family’s people, so they targeted our Zhu family.” He recounted everything he had just learned.
He understood the involvement of the Lu family and the Ji family, but he couldn’t understand why the Chu family had to get involved in this conflict.
Old Master Zhu’s brows furrowed, and his face turned dark and frightening.
After a moment, he ordered, “Prepare a generous gift. We’ll go to the Ji family to apologize.” The only way now was to appease that Ling Yao. Since she returned, their Zhu family had suffered losses at her hands more than once. Before, they had even lost a piece of land to her.
That Ling Yao was a menace. He had to find a way to get rid of her.
“I understand, Dad!” Zhu Yunchang nodded in response.
Standing up, Zhu Yunchang suddenly remembered something, “Dad, I have news about my little sister.”
“Where is she?” Old Master Zhu excitedly stood up from his seat, his voice hoarse and trembling.
His youngest daughter was born during the war. His wife was a doctor at the time. Because the front lines urgently needed doctors, even though she was seven months pregnant, she resolutely went to the battlefield.
But fate played a cruel joke on them.
One dark night, the enemy launched a surprise attack. In that terrifying night, his wife was terrified and her body suddenly reacted, causing her to give birth prematurely.
In that life-or-death situation, they had to make a difficult decision to protect their child’s safety. So, they hid their newborn daughter in the dense grass.
After the battle ended, he and his wife returned many times to search, but they never found their daughter.
None of the villagers nearby had seen her either.
Every time they returned disappointed, it was like a sharp blade piercing their hearts.
Now, over forty years had passed. His wife had passed away a few years ago. Her greatest wish in life was for him to find their daughter. So, he had never given up searching for her. He believed that as long as she was alive, he would definitely find her.
“She’s in Yuncheng. I’ve already sent someone to find her.” Zhu Yunchang told Old Master Zhu everything he knew.
Old Master Zhu nodded excitedly, “If you have any news about your sister, tell me immediately.” It was good that there was news. It meant his daughter was still alive.
“I know, Dad.” Zhu Yunchang knew that his parents’ biggest wish in life was to find their little sister. He would definitely help them find her.
“Go prepare the gifts. We’re going to the Ji family.” Old Master Zhu waved to Zhu Yunchang. After getting news about his daughter, he felt much better.
Ling Yao followed Ji Yuanming back to the Ji family. Old Master Ji and Ji Yanting were playing chess in the living room.
“Dad! I’m back.” Ling Yao called out to Ji Yanting and nodded to Old Master Ji.
Old Master Ji nodded wryly, “She’s back.” He knew his granddaughter hadn’t forgiven him yet. He didn’t force her. Although his initial intention was for their good, he had indeed hurt them, mother and daughter.
Ling Xuemei heard Ling Yao’s voice and couldn’t wait to put down the vegetables she was washing. She quickly wiped her hands and hurried out of the kitchen. She hadn’t seen her daughter for days. She really missed her.
“Mom!” Ling Yao saw Ling Xuemei and a bright smile spread across her face. She walked to her side and reached out to hold her arm, “Mom, I miss you so much. Did you miss me?”
“Yes, I miss you every day. Are you leaving tonight?” Ling Xuemei smiled, looking at her daughter lovingly. This was the first time she had been separated from her daughter for so long.
“I’m staying at home tonight.” She came back this time to spend time with her parents and talk to them.
“Is Qingyun coming over?”
“He’s out on a mission.” Thinking about Lu Qingyun, Ling Yao felt a little worried. She wondered how he was doing.
“Then I’ll cook a few more dishes in the kitchen.” Ling Xuemei smiled and walked towards the kitchen.
“I’ll do it with you.” Ling Yao followed Ling Xuemei.
As soon as they left, the housekeeper walked in, “Master! The Zhu family is here.”
Ji Yanting and Old Master Ji looked at each other, “Take them to the guest room first.” They naturally knew why Old Master Zhu and his son had come.
Old Master Zhu and Zhu Yunchang waited in the guest room for a while when Ji Yanting and Old Master Ji walked in.
Old Master Zhu and Zhu Yunchang immediately stood up and greeted them with smiles.
“Old Brother Ji! Yanting.”
“Uncle Ji! Brother Ji!”
Ji Yanting and Old Master Ji nodded slightly, their expressions impassive as they walked to the chairs and sat down.
Seeing that neither of them spoke, Old Master Zhu and Zhu Yunchang looked at each other.
Zhu Yunchang spoke first, breaking the silence, “Uncle Ji! I know about what happened today. It was our Zhu family’s fault. We’re here to apologize to Miss Ji. This is a gift we prepared for her.”
He opened the gift he had brought. Inside was a set of emerald jewelry.
Ji Yanting glanced at it casually, his tone flat, “This matter depends on my daughter’s attitude.” In his heart, his daughter and wife were the most important. Anyone who dared to bully them would pay the price.
Zhu Yunchang felt humiliated, but for the sake of his family’s future, he knew he had to endure it. He smiled, “Can you please ask Miss Ji to come over? I’ll apologize to her in person.”
Ji Yanting gave the housekeeper a look.
The housekeeper nodded understandingly and walked out of the guest room.
The kitchen was filled with laughter. Ling Yao and Ling Xuemei were chatting happily.
The housekeeper walked into the kitchen, breaking the happy atmosphere, “Miss, the Zhu family is here. They want to see you.”
Hearing this, Ling Yao’s lips curled up slightly, revealing an amused smile, “I’ll be there in a while.” She already knew about the Ji family, the Lu family, and the Chu family joining forces to suppress the Zhu family. She had no sympathy for the Zhu family’s current situation.
“Yaoyao, Mom will go with you.” Ling Xuemei said. She had already learned from Yanting that the Zhu family was the one who had been secretly targeting them, mother and daughter, all these years.
