Chapter 19: Saving the Child First

After Zhao Kun finished speaking, he remembered that Ling Yao also had something to tell him, so he said, “I’m done. You go ahead.”

Ling Yao didn’t beat around the bush and went straight to the point, “You said last time that your medicinal herb supplier is from Guicheng. Do you have any other suppliers besides Guicheng?”

“No, I’ve always had a good relationship with Li Lei. We’ve been cooperating happily for many years. The quality of his medicinal herbs is very good.”

Ling Yao furrowed her brows slightly, with a hint of worry in her voice, “I heard on the weather forecast that Guicheng will have continuous rain for the next few days.

I’m worried it might affect the transportation of medicinal herbs. If you know other suppliers, I suggest you make preparations.”

Zhao Kun trusted Ling Yao now, so he would definitely listen to her words. “I understand. I’ll ask my friends about it later.”

They chatted for a while longer and then hung up the phone.

Seeing Ling Yao finish the call, the village chief smiled at her, “Yaoyao, what have you been busy with lately?” He rarely saw Ling Yao making phone calls. She seemed to be on the phone a lot these days.

“My friend’s factory has some things going on. He called to ask for my opinion.”

“Which factory does your friend work at? Is his factory hiring?” The village chief had just heard Ling Yao mention medicinal herbs and guessed it must be related to medicine.

So, he wanted to inquire if the factory was hiring. If they were, he wanted his daughter to go.

City jobs were very popular these days. If she could get a job in the city, maybe she could marry a city man, and then he might be able to enjoy life in the city too.

“His factory isn’t hiring now, but I’ll let you know if they do in the future.”

“Okay.” The village chief nodded with a smile.

“Uncle Village Chief, I’ll go back now.” Ling Yao walked out of the village committee.

Ling Xuemei saw Ling Yao come back and picked up the medical bag on the table, “Yaoyao, watch the infirmary for me. I need to go to the next village.”

“What happened?”

“Zhang’s wife fell and had a premature birth. I have to go quickly.” Ling Xuemei hurried out. Giving birth is no small matter. It could be life-threatening at any time. The sooner she went, the sooner the pregnant woman could be out of danger.

“Mom, I’ll go with you.” Ling Yao was worried about Ling Xuemei going alone and decided to go with her.

“Then let’s go quickly.” Now, she didn’t know how Zhang’s wife had fallen. She only heard Zhou’s wife, who called her, say that she had lost a lot of blood. Yaoyao going with her would be good. There would be an extra person to help.

The mother and daughter hurried towards the next village. However, the roads were full of water, and they were walking through puddles, making it very difficult to walk.

They finally arrived at Zhang’s house and heard cries coming from inside.

Ling Xuemei and Ling Yao’s hearts sank simultaneously. They hurried into the house.

“Doctor Ling, you’re finally here. Quickly take a look at my wife. She’s lost a lot of blood.” Zhang Yang saw Ling Xuemei and a glimmer of hope appeared in his eyes. Now, he just wanted his wife to live. As for the child, they would have one eventually.

“Don’t worry. I’ll take a look.” Ling Xuemei quickly walked into the room.

Ling Yao followed closely behind.

As soon as they entered the room, a strong smell of blood hit them.

Ling Xuemei and Ling Yao walked to the bedside and saw that Zhang’s wife’s face was very pale, and her breathing was very weak.

Ling Xuemei quickly opened her medical bag, took out some ginseng slices, and put them in Zhang’s wife’s mouth,

 “Her condition is very bad. She’s in danger at any moment. Even if she survives, the baby might not be saved.”

Ling Xuemei said to Aunt Zhang, who was standing beside her. In this situation, she had to save the adult first.

“How can that be? If you have to save someone, save my grandson’s life. My grandson can’t be gone.

Otherwise, I’ll make you pay for my grandson’s life.” Aunt Zhang had been looking forward to her daughter-in-law getting pregnant for a long time. Now, she was told that the baby might not be saved. How could she accept it?

Hearing this, Ling Yao glared at Aunt Zhang, “Can’t you see what your daughter-in-law is like now? She could die at any moment.” She hated this kind of old woman the most.

Was her daughter-in-law’s life not a life? Was their daily life together for all these years not worth more than an unborn child?

“What do you know? My grandson’s life is the most precious. How can Wang Cui’e compare to my grandson?

 Besides, if she hadn’t accidentally fallen, how could my grandson have been born prematurely? She’s a jinx. I told him not to marry her, not to marry her. As expected…”

“Shut up!” Ling Yao couldn’t take it anymore and yelled. But she also knew that this was common in remote areas.

She didn’t want to hear Aunt Zhang say anything else. She was about to tell her to go out.

Then, she heard Ling Xuemei’s anxious voice, “The baby’s position is wrong. Yaoyao, come and help.”

“Okay.” Ling Yao quickly stepped forward. Seeing that Zhang’s wife’s face was even paler, she didn’t care about Ling Xuemei’s suspicion. She took out her silver needles and quickly began to prick Zhang’s wife.

Ling Xuemei had been using her hands to help Zhang’s wife adjust the baby’s position. As a doctor, she naturally hoped that all her patients would be safe and sound, hoping that the pregnant woman and the child could both get through this ordeal.

Soon, a baby’s loud cry echoed through the room.

 Although they had met through an arranged marriage, their relationship was good after they got married. He loved his wife.

“Mom, Cui’e is my wife. She gave birth to our child. I can’t ignore her. Get out of the way and let me in.”

Zhang Yang was also a little angry. His mother had always looked down on his wife and always tried to persuade him to divorce her. If she wasn’t his mother, he would have left with his wife long ago.

Especially this time, Cui’e had fallen and bled, and his mother wouldn’t let him take her to the hospital.

 She said it was a waste of money to go to the hospital and that she had given birth at home before and was fine.

Fortunately, his wife and child were both fine. Otherwise, he would have resented his mother for the rest of his life.
