Chapter 47: Moving into the Courtyard
“Did you get the wrong place? Why is this the servant’s room?”
In her previous life, when she returned to the Ji family, Ji Yanting had specially arranged the largest room with the best lighting for her. It was fully furnished with a refrigerator and an electric fan.
But this room was small and dark. Besides a bed and a wardrobe, there were only two stools. How could she live here?
“This is what the master instructed. The master also instructed that Miss should do everything herself, including buying groceries, cooking, and washing clothes.” The servant said.
Zhou Yu became angrier as she listened. She stomped her foot and walked towards Ji Yanting’s study.
“Miss, where are you going?” The servant quickly stopped Zhou Yu.
Zhou Yu pushed the servant aside, “Get out of my way. I’m going to see my dad.” She didn’t believe that Ji Yanting would ignore this. She had to ask him clearly.
She stormed into Ji Yanting’s study without even knocking. The guard wanted to stop her, but it was too late.
“Dad, I have something to ask you.”
Ji Yanting raised his head unhappily. His eyes were filled with an intimidating presence, “Why are you so disrespectful?”
Zhou Yu was instantly deflated by Ji Yanting’s aura. She pouted and shed tears of grievance, “Dad, Zhao Ma bullied me.
She took me to the servant’s room and said that I have to do everything myself, and that it was Grandpa’s instructions.”
“Since it’s your grandfather’s instructions, then just do as he says.”
“Why?” Zhou Yu was puzzled. She was his daughter now. Shouldn’t he cherish her like a precious jewel?
That’s how he treated her in her previous life. He gave her the best of everything.
“I still need to confirm your identity. Your second brother said there’s a technology called DNA paternity testing abroad.
When you and I do a DNA test, I will naturally give you the best of everything. Your second brother will be back the day after tomorrow. Just endure it for a few days.”
Zhou Yu was struck by lightning. DNA paternity testing? Wouldn’t that expose her? What should she do? She had finally become Miss Ji. She didn’t want to lose everything.
“What’s wrong with you?”
“No, nothing. I’ll go out now. Get some rest.” Zhou Yu walked out of the study in a daze.
Ji Yanting calmly looked away and continued what he was doing.
Zhou Yu returned to her room and paced anxiously and uneasily. Why was this life different from her previous life?
Many things had changed. Was it because of the butterfly effect caused by her rebirth?
She kicked a chair in frustration, and the pain made her wince.
No, she had to think of a way. She couldn’t just sit around and wait for death. It seemed like her plan had to be brought forward.
Zhou Yu walked out of the room, tiptoed to the living room downstairs, and made a phone call.
After a few days of repairs, the courtyard was finally livable. Ling Yao and Ling Xuemei moved in early in the morning with their luggage.
“Yaoyao, are we really going to live here?” Ling Xuemei had heard many legends about the courtyard from the neighbors around her these past few days, and she was a little worried.
Ling Yao put her clothes in the closet, “Mom, those rumors are all fake. There are no ghosts in this world.”
She had come here every night for the past two days. Except for the first night, she hadn’t encountered anything else. It confirmed that her space had the effect of purifying souls.
Ling Xuemei walked forward and opened the window. She saw the scenery in the backyard. There was a large open space in the backyard.
Because no one had taken care of it for a long time, the open space was overgrown with weeds.
There was a small river beside the open space. The river meandered, and the water shimmered.
A gentle breeze blew, and the willow trees on the bank brushed against the water, as if whispering to the river, or dancing with the wind.
“The scenery here is so beautiful! It’s a pity…” Ling Xuemei shook her head and sighed. She really liked it here.
She could plant some vegetables and herbs in the backyard. She could also open a clinic here. Such a good courtyard was going to waste.
They organized their luggage one by one. It wasn’t until almost noon that they finished.
“Ling Yao.” Li Ling hesitated at the door for a moment, then gritted her teeth and walked in. There was nothing to be afraid of. It was daytime.
Ling Yao heard Li Ling’s voice and walked out, “Didn’t you go to the hospital today?” Li Ling would go to the hospital every morning to deliver food to her mother.
“My mom is being discharged tomorrow. I came over to see if you need any help.” Li Ling had just returned from the hospital.
She would rest for a while and then go to work at the state-owned restaurant.
“We’re all done. Go back and call Xiaolan and Xiaogang. Come to my house for dinner.”
“No, I’ll go back after we’re done. I have to go to work later.” Li Ling said and turned to leave.
Ling Yao looked away and walked towards the kitchen.
Night fell, and it was quiet.
Ling Xuemei tossed and turned in bed, unable to sleep. She was worried that the rumors were true.
There was something unclean in the house. But she hadn’t heard anything except the wind outside.
Her eyelids gradually grew heavy, and Ling Xuemei unknowingly fell asleep. She slept until the sun was high in the sky.
Ling Xuemei looked at the time and quickly got up. She was going to go to the nearby market to buy some vegetables and cook for Ling Yao tonight.
She had just walked out the door when she saw a few middle-aged women standing not far away, chattering.
Seeing her come out, Auntie Ma walked over, “Girl, did you sleep well last night? Did you hear any strange noises?”
“No, I slept very well last night.”
“Are you sure there’s nothing unclean?” Auntie Wang walked forward, her face clearly showing disbelief.
“Really, there’s nothing.” Ling Xuemei said confidently. At first, she thought she would encounter something unclean, but nothing happened all night.
It was quiet. It seemed that rumors were unreliable.
Seeing that they couldn’t ask anything else, everyone stopped asking. They weren’t the ones living in that house anyway.
Ling Xuemei chatted with them for a while and walked towards the nearby market with her basket.
She had only walked a few steps when she saw someone lying on the side of the road.
She was clutching her chest and looked pained. It was clear that she had suffered a heart attack.
Ling Xuemei quickly dropped her basket and rushed forward to give her first aid.
Seeing this, the people around also gathered around.
“Isn’t this Director Zhang from the neighborhood committee? What’s wrong with her?”
“I heard Director Zhang has congenital heart disease. She must have had a heart attack.”
“Call an ambulance quickly.”
