Chapter 70: Documents
After seeing Old Master Ji off, Mr. Zhu called his children and told them about Old Master Ji’s visit to break off the engagement.
“What do you think?” Mr. Zhu picked up his teacup, took a sip, and looked at his children.
Zhu Yuhu’s face changed when she heard Mr. Zhu’s words, “Dad! I don’t agree to breaking off the engagement.”
She had finally waited for Ji Yanting’s leg to recover. How could she give up now?
“Yuhu, Dad knows you like Ji Yanting, but you’ve been waiting for so many years.
Ji Yanting hasn’t married you. If he liked you, he would have married you long ago.
Why would he wait until now? Let’s just break off the engagement.” Mr. Zhu’s voice was tinged with helplessness.
He didn’t want to break off the engagement either.
But now that Ji Yanting had found the mother and daughter, how could he possibly marry his daughter?
“But I like Yanting. I don’t want to give up like this.” Zhu Yuhu clenched her fists in frustration.
She had waited for Ji Yanting for so many years, from a young girl to an old maid. She had wasted her teens on Ji Yanting. How could she just give up?
Who would be responsible for her youth? Who would marry her at her age?
Mr. Zhu looked at Zhu Yuhu with heartache, “Yuhu, Dad knows you like Ji Yanting, but you can’t force a square peg into a round hole.
This matter is settled.” His voice was firm and unwavering.
“Dad!” Zhu Yuhu pleaded with Mr. Zhu.
“Alright.” Mr. Zhu waved his hand, interrupting Zhu Yuhu. He looked at his son, “Zhengtao, what do you think?”
Zhu Zhengtao looked at Mr. Zhu, “Since the Ji family wants to break off the engagement, then we’ll agree to them.
But this time, we’re going to make the Ji family bleed.”
“Tell me.”
“Fengling isn’t competing with Ji Yuanming for the position of captain, is he? We’ll make the Ji family give up this competition.
Also, make them compensate Yuhu for her lost youth.
I heard that the Ji family has an heirloom jade. We’ll make them give us that heirloom jade. Also, Jiaojiao has always liked Ji Yuanbo.
We can use this opportunity to propose another marriage with the Ji family.” Zhu Zhengtao shared his thoughts. He naturally had to consider his son’s future.
Although his son was excellent, he had to admit that he was still a bit worse than Ji Yuanming.
Also, the Ji family’s heirloom jade. It was said that Qin Shihuang had unified the world with it.
Legend had it that there was a secret within that heirloom jade. Whether the rumor was true or not, he had to get his hands on that heirloom jade.
As for his daughter’s marriage, although he preferred Lu Qingyun from the Lu family, he had heard that Lu Qingyun was allergic to women.
Whenever he got close to a woman, he would break out in a rash all over. He could only settle for the second best.
After all, the three Ji brothers were considered outstanding among the younger generation.
Mr. Zhu nodded in agreement, “Then do as you said.”
“Thank you, Dad!” Zhu Zhengtao thanked him happily.
Zhu Yuhu lowered her head. Tears flowed down her cheeks like broken pearls. She knew that things were settled.
Her happiness meant nothing compared to the family’s interests. In the end, she was just a tool to consolidate the family’s interests. She had no choice or freedom.
After Old Master Ji returned to the Ji family, he locked himself in his room. He was now filled with regret.
He regretted that he had been blinded by greed and made an engagement with the Zhu family.
Now, he had taken the initiative to break off the engagement. He could imagine the harsh conditions the Zhu family would propose.
“Knock, knock, knock!” A knock came from the door.
Then, Ji Yuanming’s voice came from outside, “Grandpa! I’m back.” “Come in.” Old Master Ji sighed.
Although Yuanming wasn’t his biological grandson, his excellence was undeniable.
The door opened, and Ji Yuanming strode in.
“Grandpa!”
“Have a seat.” Old Master Ji pointed to the chair beside him.
Ji Yuanming nodded, walked to the chair, sat down, and handed a file folder to Old Master Ji, “Grandpa! This is what my father asked me to give you.”
Old Master Ji took the file folder and opened it with a puzzled expression. When he saw the contents, his face changed instantly.
“Dad asked you to go to the Zhu family to break off the engagement. If the Zhu family makes unreasonable demands, use this document as an exchange.
Also, he’s preparing a grand wedding for Aunt Ling. He hopes you won’t stop him.”
Old Master Ji put the document back in the file folder, “Okay, I understand.”
It seemed he had underestimated his son. He was more capable than he had thought. As the saying goes,
“The younger generation surpasses the older generation, one mountain is higher than the next.” He could rest assured.
“Grandpa! I’ll go back to the army now.” Ji Yuanming had completed his mission. He stood up and walked out of the room.
Soon, Old Master Ji received a call from Mr. Zhu. When he heard the conditions that Mr. Zhu had proposed, Old Master Ji’s face turned so black that it seemed to be dripping water.
He had known that the Zhu family would be greedy, but he hadn’t expected their demands to be more excessive than he had imagined.
“Mr. Zhu, we’ve been friends for decades. You can’t be so unreasonable.”
“Old Ji, if you don’t agree, then the engagement will continue.” Mr. Zhu was unfazed. He knew that Old Master Ji would agree.
Old Master Ji took a deep breath, suppressing his anger, “I have a document here. You should take a look at it before deciding.”
Fortunately, his son had prepared beforehand. Otherwise, he would have been at the mercy of the Zhu family.
Mr. Zhu put down the phone with a serious expression.
“Dad, what’s wrong?” Seeing Mr. Zhu’s expression, Zhu Zhengtao asked.
Mr. Zhu shook his head and stood up, “You accompany me to the Ji family.” He wanted to see what kind of leverage that old man from the Ji family had over the Zhu family.
When Old Master Ji heard that Mr. Zhu had arrived, he immediately greeted him with a smile, “Mr. Zhu, welcome, welcome. Please come in.”
Mr. Zhu’s face was grim as he followed Old Master Ji into the living room.
“Old Ji, let’s not beat around the bush. Just show me what you have.”
Old Master Ji smiled and took out the document. He handed it to Butler Liu, who was standing beside him.
Butler Liu respectfully took the document and then carefully handed it to Mr. Zhu.
Mr. Zhu took the document and slowly opened it. He read it carefully.
The more he read, the uglier his face became. Every word in the document was like a sharp knife, tearing at his heart.
He had never imagined that under his nose, his Zhu family descendants had done so many unspeakable things.
He felt that his dignity and the family’s reputation had been trampled and defiled.
“Dad, can I see it?” Zhu Zhengtao had a bad feeling about this.
Mr. Zhu slammed the document onto Zhu Zhengtao’s face, “This is all your doing.” He stood up angrily and walked outside.
Zhu Zhengtao quickly looked at the document. He glared at Old Master Ji with anger and resentment.
He then followed Mr. Zhu. The Ji family was ruthless. They had actually kept this up their sleeve.
