Chapter 8: Saving Someone

The moment she saw Zhao Kun, Ling Yao recognized him. She had interacted with him in her previous life, and he had even helped her.

Later, she became friends with Zhao Kun. She had heard about his younger years from him.

He had said that he had been so desperate that he almost jumped into the river.

A passing soldier had saved him and helped him through the difficult time. But later, when he became successful and wanted to repay the soldier, he learned that the soldier had died in a mission.

Every year during the Qingming Festival, he would go to the soldier’s grave to pay his respects.

“Master, I want to get off the bus.” Ling Yao put on her backpack and shouted to the driver. Since she had encountered him in this life, she couldn’t just stand by and watch.

“You can’t get off here.” The driver refused.

“That person is my friend. I need to go persuade him.” Ling Yao pointed to Zhao Kun on the bridge pier ahead, saying anxiously.

The driver looked at Ling Yao with doubt.

“Master, hurry up, if he really jumps, it will be too late.”

“Alright.” The driver hesitated for a moment and opened the door.

Ling Yao quickly jumped off the bus and ran towards the bridge.

At the same time, a jeep was stopped by the traffic ahead.

Seeing that everyone had gotten off the bus and were looking in the same direction, Lu Qingyun glanced ahead and instructed Xiao Liu, “Go see what happened ahead.”

“Yes!” Xiao Liu pushed open the car door and ran quickly towards the front.

A moment later, Xiao Liu ran back, “Report, Commander! Someone on the bridge ahead is trying to jump into the river.”

Lu Qingyun frowned slightly, raised his hand, his slender fingers were elegant and restrained, his knuckles were distinct and hard, like jade. He pushed open the car door and walked towards the front with long strides.

Zhao Kun closed his eyes and took a deep breath, about to jump down.

“Zhao Kun, wait!” Ling Yao shouted loudly, stopping Zhao Kun from jumping.

Zhao Kun stopped, slowly opened his eyes, and turned his head to look at Ling Yao. He realized he didn’t recognize her.

He turned his head again and let out a bitter laugh. What else could he do besides die? His wife had divorced him and taken their son back to her parents’ house.

His father had also become a vegetable due to the factory incident. And the workers’ wages, he was really at his wit’s end.

“Zhao Kun, don’t be impulsive. Listen to me, I have a way to revive your factory. Can you come down first?” Ling Yao slowly approached Zhao Kun, waiting for an opportunity to pull him down.

Zhao Kun didn’t look at Ling Yao. He didn’t believe her words at all.

“Zhao Kun, think about your father who is lying in bed, and the workers who are waiting for you to come back. Do you really have the heart to disappoint them?” Seeing that Zhao Kun was unmoved, Ling Yao could only continue to persuade him.

Zhao Kun’s eyes flickered, then turned dim again. What could he do? He didn’t want to disappoint them either, but he had already done everything he could.

Seeing the opportunity, Ling Yao moved her feet, quickly stepped forward, reached out and grabbed Zhao Kun, pulling him down.

Everyone around watched nervously. Seeing Zhao Kun being pulled down by Ling Yao, everyone breathed a sigh of relief and spontaneously applauded.

“This girl is so brave.”

“The person is finally saved.”

“I’m so touched, I’m about to cry.”

Lu Qingyun looked at Ling Yao deeply, his thin lips curved slightly, and he walked towards the military jeep.

Ling Yao pressed hard on Zhao Kun, preventing him from climbing back onto the bridge pier,

“Listen to me, I really have a way to help you. Didn’t you have a batch of medicine that was about to be confiscated by the drug administration? I have a way to help you get that batch of medicine approved.”

Zhao Kun didn’t believe it at first, but he looked at Ling Yao with confusion.

Ling Yao gave Zhao Kun a smile, “Trust me this once, okay?”

Zhao Kun met Ling Yao’s eyes, which were as bright as stars. They sparkled with confidence and determination, like the brightest stars in the universe, shining brightly in the endless darkness.

A sense of warmth and reassurance inexplicably welled up in Zhao Kun’s heart. He pursed his lips and nodded slightly, “Okay.” He would consider it as a last chance for himself.

Ling Yao stood up and smiled, extending her hand, “Get up!”

Zhao Kun hesitated slightly, then reached out and took Ling Yao’s hand, “Thank you!”

This moment was forever etched in his heart. Whenever he thought about it, Zhao Kun would be incredibly grateful that he had trusted Ling Yao, which had brought light into his life and changed everything.

Ling Yao and Zhao Kun walked out of the crowd side by side, coming to a place where there were fewer people.

“My name is Ling Yao.”

“My name is Zhao Kun.” Zhao Kun scratched his head. Although he was much older than Ling Yao, he felt like he was being led by her.

Ling Yao smiled faintly, “It’s too late today. Give me your address, I’ll go find you tomorrow and tell you more details.”

“Okay.” Zhao Kun nodded and gave Ling Yao his address.

“Then I’ll go. See you tomorrow!” Ling Yao waved to Zhao Kun and turned to walk towards the bus stop.

Although she didn’t want to take the bus again, it would take at least three or four hours to walk back.

It would be almost dark by then, and her mother would definitely be worried. So she had to endure the pain of getting carsick again.

Zhao Kun watched Ling Yao’s back as she left, until her figure disappeared. Then he withdrew his gaze, shook his head with a bitter smile,

“Maybe I’m crazy.” But he still decided to give himself another chance.

Ling Yao sat on the bus, drowsy. She felt her backpack being moved, quickly opened her eyes, and grabbed the person’s hand, “Put the thing down.”

The thief, caught by Ling Yao, wasn’t afraid at all. He even threatened her, “Don’t push your luck.”

He had stolen on this bus countless times. The driver and conductor turned a blind eye.

Some passengers, even though they saw him stealing, pretended not to see it, for fear of retaliation.

Ling Yao didn’t let go, but instead tightened her grip.

The thief winced in pain, “Okay, okay, I’ll put it back.”

He put the thing back in the backpack. When Ling Yao released her grip, he pointed at Ling Yao and threatened,

“You’ll regret this.” He wasn’t someone who would just take a loss and swallow it.

Ling Yao casually took out an acupuncture needle and stabbed it towards the thief’s chest.

The thief didn’t have time to dodge. He felt a sharp pain in his chest. He angrily wanted to beat Ling Yao, but he found that he couldn’t move.

He was scared, “What did you do to me?”

Ling Yao ignored the thief, stood up, and looked at the people on the bus, “Everyone, check if you’ve lost anything.”

“Oh, my wallet is gone, there were twenty yuan in it.”

“My money is gone too.”

“Why is there a scratch on my pocket?”
