Chapter 125 : The Happiness of Being Pampered
Ever since she was rejected by the Fang family and after that incident, her parents had started arranging for her to marry someone else.
But seeing the Fang family’s circumstances improve and knowing they were living a good life, she couldn’t accept living poorly herself.
Yan Mingyi had promised to help her take revenge, but there had been no progress so far.
The day before, she had gone to visit Yan Mingyi, but his neighbor told her that his sister was pregnant and about to give birth, so Yan Mingyi had gone with his parents to his sister’s house.
However, Wang Hongfang thought it would be better for Yan Mingyi to go directly to his sister’s house, since her brother-in-law was a soldier and they lived in the military compound. This would make it easier to stir up trouble for Fang Xiaoluo.
If Fang Xiaoluo wasn’t in Honghe Village, no one would suspect her involvement.
Given Yan Mingyi’s love for her, she believed he would find a way to handle Fang Xiaoluo this time.
She just had to wait for good news from Yan Mingyi.
Fang Xiaoluo returned to the military compound. Before she reached her door, she saw Zheng Lanhua, Shen Haiping, Shen Jinxia, and Yu Xiaopang sitting outside the gate, all looking in one direction.
As soon as they saw her, they got up and moved.
“Mom!” Shen Jinxia ran toward her like a little bird and jumped into her arms.
Fang Xiaoluo squatted down and hugged Shen Jinxia tightly.
“Mom, you’re finally back! I missed you so much.” Shen Jinxia stretched her arms around her neck, her small body soft and warm.
Fang Xiaoluo carried her toward the gate, while Zheng Lanhua stood up.
“What was the result?” she asked.
Fang Xiaoluo smiled. “A complete victory. Everything went very well.”
Shen Jinxia softly added, “Mom, grandma was worried about you. She was afraid bad people would bully you, so she didn’t even eat lunch.”
Zheng Lanhua turned her head away, saying, “You’re talking nonsense. I just didn’t feel well at noon.”
Shen Jinxia blinked. “Oh? Grandma, are you feeling better now?”
Fang Xiaoluo smiled. “It’s good for your grandma to see me. I’m sure she’ll feel better now.”
Zheng Lanhua said nothing and turned into the yard.
Fang Xiaoluo called out, “Mom, where are you going?”
“I’m sleepy, I want to rest. It’s too noisy when I see you. I need some peace,” Zheng Lanhua said, heading inside.
Once inside, Shen Jinxia jumped out of Fang Xiaoluo’s arms.
Fang Xiaoluo looked down and saw the joy in Shen Haiping’s eyes. She noticed that, before seeing her, his eyes were full of worry, but now they sparkled with life.
Fang Xiaoluo squatted down, took a melon from her bag, and handed one to each of the children.
“Haiping, can you take Xiaxia and Xiaopang to wash these melons?”
Shen Haiping nodded solemnly. “Yes.”
Fang Xiaoluo patted his head. “Our Haiping is so capable.”
She handed Shen Haiping another melon. “Wash this one too and take it to grandma.”
“Got it.”
When Shen Haiping smiled, Fang Xiaoluo felt that he was becoming someone to be relied upon and trusted.
Shen Jinxia followed Shen Haiping inside, while Yu Xiaopang held his melon and said politely, “Thank you, Auntie.”
“You’re welcome,” Fang Xiaoluo replied.
When Shen Haifeng finished school, he ran home as fast as he could.
When he saw Fang Xiaoluo tending to vegetables in the yard, his heart settled.
“Mother.”
Fang Xiaoluo was putting cucumber vines on the rack when she heard Shen Haifeng’s voice.
She turned and smiled. “Are you done with school?”
Shen Haifeng squatted down and asked, “Mom, how are you today? Did you win?”
Fang Xiaoluo said, “Of course, don’t you see who I am?”
Shen Haifeng laughed, “I knew you would win, Mom.”
As Fang Xiaoluo tied the rope, she asked, “Did you miss me during class today?”
Shen Haifeng shook his head. “No, I have an exam in two days. I listened to the class very seriously. I only thought about it after class.”
“Not bad, there’s been progress,” Fang Xiaoluo praised.
Shen Haifeng noticed that Fang Xiaoluo had recently planted cucumbers in all the empty spaces in the yard. The cucumber seedlings were growing well and had begun to climb the trellis. Some had already bloomed.
“Mom, it’s going to get cold soon. Is it okay to grow cucumbers now?” Shen Haifeng asked.
Fang Xiaoluo explained, “You can use ground film or greenhouses. There are many ways to keep them warm. It’s no problem.”
“This winter, we won’t just have cucumbers to eat. I’ll make sure you get a lot more green vegetables.”
Fang Xiaoluo didn’t cook in the evening. Zheng Lanhua went to the cafeteria to get rice and vegetables. The family sat together to finish their meal. Shen Jinxia ran out to play, and Fang Xiaoluo continued to tutor Shen Haifeng.
Shen Haiping still silently stayed by their side and painted his pictures.
Shen Zheng came back very late, and everyone else in the family was asleep.
While Fang Xiaoluo was waiting for Shen Zheng, she was tidying up the cucumbers in her space.
She discovered that the longer she and Shen Zheng were together, the more spiritual spring water there was, and the area available for planting in the space was also expanding.
Of course, the speed of growth was far slower than the rate at which the soldiers of the third battalion were rescued before, but it was still enough to surprise her.
It was late at night when she heard a door open. Fang Xiaoluo sat up and turned on the light.
Shen Zheng was momentarily stunned. “Did I wake you up?”
Fang Xiaoluo said, “No, I haven’t slept yet.”
Shen Zheng came over, bent down, and asked, “Are you waiting for me?”
Fang Xiaoluo leaned against the headboard. “You’re so full of yourself. It’s just that it’s too hot, and I haven’t fallen asleep yet.”
Shen Zheng took a clean vest and shorts. “If you can’t sleep, I’ll help you cool down after I shower.”
Fang Xiaoluo glared at him. “You’re so frivolous.”
Shen Zheng smiled and said, “Why should I be serious with my own wife? Besides, I didn’t say anything, right?”
Fang Xiaoluo snorted. “Have you eaten dinner tonight?”
“I’ve eaten,” Shen Zheng replied. “It seems like today’s court session went smoothly.”
He had been really worried the whole day. In the afternoon, Huo Jinlei and others told him that Fang Xiaoluo had returned home, and he finally breathed a sigh of relief.
“It went very smoothly, just as I expected.”
Fang Xiaoluo looked at Shen Zheng’s back as he went to take a shower and felt a lot of emotion in her heart.
From the old to the young, everyone cares about her, which makes her feel very fulfilled and satisfied.
This should be the so-called ordinary happiness.
Early in the morning, Fang Qiang came on a motorcycle to get cucumbers, and Fang Xiaoluo gave him two bottles of spiritual spring water.
“Brother, this bottle is for Dad to drink, and this one is for watering the vegetable garden. As always, you must dilute it before use.”
Fang Qiang collected the spiritual spring water and asked, “What land are you watering?”
Fang Xiaoluo said, “I’m replanting the cabbages that have been harvested and planting some cucumbers. Otherwise, I’m afraid my cucumber supply will be insufficient. You don’t have to worry about not being able to harvest because it’s going to get cold soon. I have a solution. I’ll tell you when I go back to harvest the corn in a few days.”
Fang Qiang would definitely listen to Fang Xiaoluo now. “Okay, I’ll do it when I get back.”
As Fang Xiaoluo was walking home from the gate of the compound, she saw Sun Shuling running hurriedly inside.
She hadn’t figured out where Sun Shuling was going, but when Sun Shuling saw her, she ran over.
Panting, with bloodshot eyes, she said, “Comrade Fang…Fang, please…please tell me if you still have the elixir you used to save the soldiers last time. I…I have a woman here who’s giving birth, and she…she is dying.”
