Chapter 126 : Life is at Stake
Fang Xiaoluo didn’t hesitate when it came to life and death. “I just happened to be delivering it to someone else, and I still have a little left.”
She quickly instructed Sun Shuling to get on the back of her bicycle, and they rushed to the infirmary.
The equipment in the military district’s medical room was actually quite complete, and the doctors provided were highly professional.
When Sun Shuling and Fang Xiaoluo arrived, they gave a brief explanation of the woman’s condition.
The mother had a difficult delivery, and now the fetus was stuck. She had no strength left. In this situation, the fetus had entered the birth canal, and a cesarean section wasn’t possible. It was also too late to send her to a large hospital in Jiangcheng.
Sun Shuling suddenly thought of Fang Xiaoluo and figured it might be worth a try, just in case it worked. If nothing else could be done, it was likely that two lives would be lost.
Outside the emergency room, the pregnant woman’s family members were anxiously waiting.
Sun Shuling took the spiritual spring water from Fang Xiaoluo and said to Yan Mengxiang’s family, “She is on the verge of death. I have this comrade’s life-saving medicine. She once saved an entire battalion of soldiers. If you trust me, I will give it to her now. If not, we have no other options.”
Standing outside were Yan Mengxiang’s mother, Dou Qin, and her brother, Yan Mingyi. Her husband was on a mission and hadn’t returned yet. He hadn’t expected Yan Mengxiang to give birth prematurely and was on his way back.
Yan Mingyi sized Fang Xiaoluo up. Wasn’t this the woman who Wang Hongfang said was bad and always bullied his sister? How could she have saved so many people according to the military doctor?
Dou Qin didn’t want to hesitate any longer. “Doctor, we trust you and this comrade.”
Yan Mingyi pulled on his mother’s arm. “Mom, why do you believe everything?”
Dou Qin said angrily, “What time is it? Your sister is about to die! I don’t care about you, I believe them!”
Yan Mingyi had been influenced by Wang Hongfang, so he felt that Fang Xiaoluo wasn’t as kind as they made her out to be. “Mom, what if this makes things worse?”
Sun Shuling said, “If you think it can help, please sign the form.”
She couldn’t let Fang Xiaoluo be blamed for her good intentions. She wasn’t even sure if the mother and child would survive, given how dangerous the situation was. But at least with the signature, it would protect Fang Xiaoluo.
Dou Qin was about to press her fingerprint on the form when Yan Mingyi snatched it away, saying, “I won’t allow it.”
“I trust her. Dr. Sun, just use the medicine!”
Two tall figures walked over, and who else could it be but Yu Xinzheng, speaking in a cold voice?
“Deputy Captain Yu?” Fang Xiaoluo was very surprised. Why was he here?
Yu Xinzheng nodded, then said to Dou Qin and Yan Mingyi, “Her name is Fang Xiaoluo. She has selflessly saved an entire battalion of soldiers before. All the children in the compound like her. She won’t harm anyone!”
He looked directly into Yan Mingyi’s eyes and said, “I am the deputy head of the regiment where your brother-in-law, Zhu Baojun, serves. My name is Yu Xinzheng. He’s not here, but if anything goes wrong with this matter, I will take responsibility!”
Yan Mingyi was stunned by Yu Xinzheng’s words.
Taking advantage of the moment, Dou Qin quickly pressed her fingerprint.
Sun Shuling took the spiritual spring water Fang Xiaoluo had given her and went into the emergency room.
Fang Xiaoluo didn’t leave either. Since she was here, she had to stay to see what the outcome would be.
She didn’t expect that the woman in labor’s partner was from Yu Xinzheng’s Second Regiment.
Yu Xin had always been dissatisfied with Shen Zheng, but now he believed her.
Yu Xinzheng walked up to Fang Xiaoluo and said solemnly, “Thank you for coming to help.”
Fang Xiaoluo waved her hand. “Human lives are at stake. I didn’t think much about it. Deputy Captain Yu, you don’t have to be so polite. We don’t know what the outcome will be yet.”
Yu Xinzheng replied, “No matter the result, I want to thank you for coming.”
Generally, people who are afraid of getting into trouble would never come.
Yan Mingyi looked at Yu Xinzheng, stiffening his neck. “Deputy Captain Yu, your words sound nice, but if anything happens to my sister, can you bear the consequences? Are you really so partial to this woman?”
Yu Xinzheng looked him up and down. “I don’t talk to brainless people.”
Yan Mingyi was about to say something when Dou Qin pulled him back.
“You child, your sister is in this state. If you don’t use it, two lives could be lost. If you use it, there may be a chance of saving them!”
Yan Mingyi didn’t respond, only continued to glare at Fang Xiaoluo.
Not long after, Shen Zheng arrived at the infirmary.
He had waited for Fang Xiaoluo for a long time but she didn’t return. After asking around, he learned that Fang Xiaoluo and Sun Shuling had gone to the infirmary, so he hurriedly chased after them.
As soon as he arrived, he could tell the situation was delicate.
Yu Xinzheng was in charge here. Why did the brother of the woman who just gave birth keep staring at his wife?
Shen Zheng found an angle to separate Fang Xiaoluo from Yan Mingyi.
Time passed minute by minute, and finally, the loud cry of a baby came from inside.
Dou Qin and Yan Mingyi were immediately overjoyed, and Yu Xinzheng also moved toward the door.
After a long time, Sun Shuling finally came out. She took off her mask and looked relieved. “Mother and child are safe.”
She then looked at Fang Xiaoluo with a grateful expression and said, “Thanks to your potion, the mother’s mental state recovered after drinking it, and she finally had the strength to give birth to the baby.” After speaking, she hurried back inside.
Yu Xinzheng clapped his hands, and the stone that had been weighing on his heart finally fell.
Fang Xiaoluo and Shen Zheng exchanged a look. Since Yan Mengxiang and the child were both fine, it was another good deed they had done.
Fang Xiaoluo pulled Shen Zheng over and said, “Let’s go.”
Just as they took two steps, Dou Qin grabbed Yan Mingyi and knelt in front of Fang Xiaoluo.
Dou Qin cried with joy, “Comrade Fang, thank you for saving my daughter’s life. If it weren’t for you, I don’t know what would have happened to Xiang’er. Please accept my gratitude.”
Fang Xiaoluo was too flustered to accept such a gesture, so she quickly stepped aside to help her.
“Auntie, please get up quickly. This is a new society, and you can’t do this.”
Shen Zheng helped Dou Qin up.
Dou Qin was crying uncontrollably. “I thought I was going to lose my daughter. I really don’t know how to thank you.”
Fang Xiaoluo said, “It’s thanks to Dr. Sun and her colleagues’ good medical skills, and your daughter is lucky. Now that this hurdle is behind her, the future will be smoother. Auntie, I accept your thanks.”
Yan Mingyi stood aside, silently pursing his lips for a long time. Then, he said loudly, “Comrade Fang, I was wrong just now. I shouldn’t have judged others by my own narrow views. It’s all my fault. Thank you for saving my sister. Please forgive my recklessness.”
As he spoke, he bowed 90 degrees in front of Fang Xiaoluo and refused to stand up unless she forgave him.
