80s Military Marriage: The Fake Heiress Becomes a Stepmom Chapter 17

Chapter 17 : The Domineering CEO’s Style

Watching Fang Xiaoluo pull Shen Zheng away, Xu Yaqiu’s first reaction was to chase after them.

Why should she pay for Fang Xiaoluo’s photos? Just the thought of spending a penny on her made Xu Yaqiu feel suffocated, a heavy knot in her chest.

She had just reached the door when Zhou Yanwen suddenly grabbed her arm and pulled her back. “Where are you going?”

“Where am I going?” Xu Yaqiu snapped. “Of course, I’m going to stop them. Why should we pay for their photos?!”

Zhou Yanwen frowned. “It’s just a few bucks for a photo. Just pay and be done with it. Can you stop embarrassing yourself?”

Xu Yaqiu’s head buzzed, as though it might explode. “Zhou Yanwen, are you even human?”

“How is this not human?” Zhou Yanwen retorted angrily. “Xu Yaqiu, blame yourself for running your mouth non-stop. You deserve to pay!”

Xu Yaqiu’s chest tightened with anger, her whole body in pain. “Zhou Yanwen, you… you just like Fang Xiaoluo, don’t you? Even if you like her, it doesn’t matter, you married me!”

“Xu Yaqiu, don’t get shameless. You’re throwing a tantrum over a few bucks. You came here to take photos. If you don’t want to, then don’t. Don’t pretend I care!” Zhou Yanwen snapped, tossing his sleeve and storming off.

Xu Yaqiu felt a wave of nausea and dizziness. How could she not take photos?

Suppressing her fury, she grabbed Zhou Yanwen’s arm. “Fine, I’ll pay, who says I won’t? It’s just the money for two photo sessions, I’ll pay!”

Reluctantly, the two went to take the photos, though neither was happy about it.

After leaving the photo studio, Fang Xiaoluo and Shen Zheng headed for the Jiangcheng Embroidery Factory.

While Fang Xiaoluo could keep her marriage a secret from others, she still wanted to invite Chen Meijun.

Upon hearing that Fang Xiaoluo was getting married and not to Zhou Yanwen, Chen Meijun was thrilled and promised to attend the wedding on Saturday.

After leaving the Jiangcheng Embroidery Factory, Fang Xiaoluo glanced at the sky. “Are you going back to the army first?”

Shen Zheng replied, “I’ll take you home first.”

The two of them rode their bikes toward Honghe Village.

Up ahead was the most famous river in Jiangcheng, the Ziyang River.

Children were playing by the river, people were walking, chatting, and of course, couples were meeting under the willow trees by the water.

Just as Fang Xiaoluo and Shen Zheng were about to cross a bridge, a sudden cry for help rang out from the river…

“Someone fell in the water!”

“Help! Help!”

The cries grew louder, mixed with the sound of several children crying. Their wails were heart-wrenching.

Shen Zheng’s expression turned serious. Without hesitation, he turned his bike around and headed straight for the river. He only called out to Fang Xiaoluo, “Wait for me.”

Before she could react, she saw Shen Zheng jump off his bike and leap into the river.

She quickly followed him.

In no time, a crowd gathered by the river.

“A soldier jumped in!” someone shouted.

“Yes, yes, the kid will be fine now.”

“Look, the soldier’s got the kid!”

“He’s swimming back, he’s back!”

The crowd grew more and more excited.

Fang Xiaoluo kept her eyes fixed on Shen Zheng, terrified he might be in danger. Only when he had managed to get the child to safety and climbed back onto the shore did she finally breathe a sigh of relief.

She rushed over to him. “Shen Zheng, are you okay?”

Shen Zheng wiped the water from his face. “I’m fine. The kid is unconscious, we need to get him to the hospital.”

The crowd around them started shouting, “I’ll go get a doctor!”

Others shouted, “I’ll go get a car!”

Everyone was busy moving around.

Fang Xiaoluo crouched down to check the little boy. He looked around seven or eight years old. He had inhaled water and was suffocating. Immediate CPR was needed. By the time the doctor arrived, it might be too late.

Although she wasn’t a professional, before crossing over, she had watched many CPR videos, and her company often conducted relevant knowledge training.

“Everyone, please step back,” Fang Xiaoluo said as she laid the child flat and placed both her hands on his chest, pressing down firmly.

The crowd wasn’t sure what Fang Xiaoluo was doing and began to discuss.

“What’s this girl doing?”

“She must be saving him.”

“Is that even going to work?”

“This kid doesn’t seem like he’s going to make it, what if it works?”

Even though the child wasn’t responding, Fang Xiaoluo didn’t give up. Her legs ached, her wrists were sore, and sweat poured down her face.

Shen Zheng crouched down beside her and wiped the sweat from her forehead.

The crowd began to stir as someone cried out and pushed through the crowd, shouting a name.

“Wenbo, my Wenbo!”

A stylish woman in her thirties rushed toward her son, but the man beside her grabbed her back.

“It looks like this young lady is saving our son, don’t go in and cause more trouble.”

The man was drenched in sweat, looking just as desperate. Upon hearing that his son had fallen into the water, his mind had nearly shattered, and this was the last bit of rationality he had left.

The woman suppressed her sobs, staring intently at her son.

Fang Xiaoluo continued compressions for a while before beginning artificial respiration, repeating the cycle.

Just as everyone had given up hope, the little boy suddenly coughed up a mouthful of water, followed by a series of violent coughs.

When the child regained consciousness, Fang Xiaoluo let out a sigh of relief and sat down on the ground.

The crowd erupted into thunderous applause, praising Shen Zheng and Fang Xiaoluo as heroes for saving the boy.

The boy’s parents hurried over to check on him.

Not long after, the hospital ambulance arrived, and medical personnel loaded the boy onto the vehicle.

The parents quickly expressed their gratitude to Fang Xiaoluo and Shen Zheng.

In the rush, the boy’s father turned to the mother and said, “You go to the hospital with Wenbo, I’ll take care of our son’s saviors first, then I’ll meet you there.”

“I’m Wei Yan. May I ask how to address you both?” Wei Yan said warmly and politely.

“I’m Fang Xiaoluo, and this is my… husband, Shen Zheng.” Fang Xiaoluo paused before introducing Shen Zheng. After all, they had just registered today, so it wasn’t wrong to call him her husband.

Hearing the word “husband,” a warm feeling flooded Shen Zheng’s heart.

Yes, they had registered. They were a legal couple now. She was his wife, and they were a family.

Wei Yan smiled. “My house is nearby. Comrade Shen’s clothes are soaked, and Comrade Fang, you’ve worked hard as well. How about coming to our place to sit for a bit and change clothes?”

Fang Xiaoluo nodded to rest for a while. She looked at Shen Zheng, whose hair was damp from the river. His shirt clung to his body, outlining his solid chest muscles.

She hadn’t paid attention earlier during the crisis, but now, with the danger passed, Fang Xiaoluo couldn’t help but take a few more glances. She couldn’t help but think to herself, Shen Zheng was really devilishly handsome.

With a body like that, in a luxury mansion, in the bathroom…

Fang Xiaoluo suddenly realized. Was she starting to take on the style of a domineering CEO?
