Chapter 50 : Arranging Work
Shen Haifeng was dumbfounded. He had apologized, why hadn’t Fang Xiaoluo forgiven him yet?
Wasn’t apologizing supposed to mean forgiveness?
Fang Xiaoluo, still tending to the small garden in the yard, noticed that the plants had been dry these past few days without rain.
She fetched a bucket of water, added a few drops of spiritual spring water, and then slowly watered the plants with a ladle.
“You’re blocking my way.”
Noticing that Shen Haifeng was still standing there with a furrowed brow, not moving, Fang Xiaoluo spoke up.
Shen Haifeng, frustrated, couldn’t hold back his anger. “Why won’t you forgive me?”
Fang Xiaoluo stopped what she was doing and looked at him seriously. “You apologizing is your business. Whether or not I forgive you is mine. These two things don’t conflict with each other.”
“Besides, if you killed someone, and then bowed to the corpse and said ‘sorry,’ would that bring them back to life, or what?”
Her words left Shen Haifeng stunned.
How could it be the same?
It seemed that Fang Xiaoluo wasn’t planning on forgiving him. This made him even angrier.
He’d prepared for this all afternoon!
Looking at Shen Haifeng’s stubborn back as he walked away, Fang Xiaoluo smiled slightly.
So what if he was only eight years old? He’d been throwing tantrums for days now. She wanted him to understand that not everything was so simple.
Just because he lowered himself, thinking he could do whatever he wanted?
Not with her!
After finishing watering the garden, Fang Xiaoluo noticed the plants looked livelier, their green leaves even more vibrant. She smiled more as she admired them.
Once she was done with the yard, she remembered there was still something else she needed to do. The small plot of land in her space hadn’t been planted yet.
With that thought, Fang Xiaoluo returned to her room, closed the door, and planted the cucumber seeds she had bought that day in the small space. She watered them with some spiritual spring water, eager to see how these cucumbers would turn out to be unique.
—
Jiang City, the Zhou family.
The Zhou family had been in turmoil recently. Anyone could tell it was a headache.
Since Xu Yaqiu and Zhou Yanwen’s marriage, they had been arguing nonstop. Their wedding visit had turned into another argument, and it seemed like they’d been at odds ever since.
Qian Haixia now deeply regretted it. If she had known that marrying Xu Yaqiu would lead to this kind of situation, she would have done everything in her power to prevent Zhou Yanwen from marrying her.
The house was now a mess.
After dinner, Xu Yaqiu was in the kitchen doing the dishes, and as usual, she was banging them around in frustration.
Zhou Yanwen, unable to focus on the TV, yelled out, “If you break another dish, I’ll file for divorce! If you don’t want to stay here, then don’t! Which wife doesn’t do the dishes? Was I supposed to marry you to be a decoration?”
Xu Yaqiu was boiling with anger. Back when she was at her family’s home in the countryside, she never had to do the dishes. Now, after getting married, she had to cook and do housework. Her brother Zhou Qingyou and her sister Zhou Lili never lifted a finger.
Zhou Yanwen often threatened her with divorce. She couldn’t help but wonder what kind of life Fang Xiaoluo and Zhou Yanwen had lived in their previous lives.
Xu Yaqiu finally finished the dishes. Just as she sat down, Zhou Ping came back from outside.
“Everyone’s here.” Zhou Ping put his briefcase on the coffee table and sat down himself. “Yaqiu, remember how we said we’d arrange a job for you after the wedding? Well, it’s all settled. Next Monday, you can go in to complete the formalities and start your new job officially.”
Xu Yaqiu had been in a terrible mood, but after hearing Zhou Ping’s words, her eyes lit up.
In the previous life, after Fang Xiaoluo got married, she worked at a garment factory, and Zhou Ping arranged an office job for her.
Because Fang Xiaoluo could draw and embroider, when the factory turned private, she even designed new clothing styles. Later, she and Zhou Ping started their own clothing brand.
“Thank you, Dad.” Xu Yaqiu immediately brightened up and smiled, asking, “Dad, what kind of work will I be doing at the factory?”
If it was the same as the previous life, she would be able to get a nice office job, something easy and well-paying.
Zhou Ping replied, “First, you’ll go to the workshop to work as a female worker for some hands-on training.”
Xu Yaqiu: ???
Work as a female worker in the workshop? That would be exhausting!
Why could Fang Xiaoluo go straight to the office in the past, but for her, it was only the workshop?
Zhou Ping seemed to notice her dissatisfaction and explained, “Yaqiu, you’re young. No matter what job you take, as long as you’re dedicated and work hard, you’ll have a bright future. Back in my day, I worked my way up from the workshop, and by interacting with the workers, I learned a lot.”
Since Zhou Ping had said so, Xu Yaqiu had nothing more to say.
“Dad, I understand. I’ll work hard.”
Zhou Ping smiled, “Now that you’ve said that, I’m relieved. In addition to working hard, make sure you read more and learn more. It’s always good for you. You see, even with just a high school diploma, it would have been much easier for me to arrange an office job for you. But now, it’s just not possible.”
No matter how you looked at it, Zhou Ping was speaking with good intentions.
But to Xu Yaqiu, it was very harsh.
She felt like Zhou Ping was mocking her for only finishing junior high and not even being able to pass the high school entrance exam.
Read more? What a joke.
She clearly remembered what the hit designs from Fang Xiaoluo were in the previous life. Once she had time, she would slowly sketch them out, sure to wow everyone.
And when the private clothing line did well and the Zhou family came begging her for help…
Zhou Yanwen was stroking his chin, having thought of something over the past couple of days.
As he watched Xu Yaqiu go off to take a bath, he leaned towards Zhou Ping and whispered, “Dad, I also want to work. Can you help me with that?”
Zhou Ping and Qian Haixia were both surprised. In the past, whenever they suggested Zhou Yanwen go work, he would refuse.
Qian Haixia thought for a moment, then realized. Since he married Xu Yaqiu, it was good that her son seemed motivated. “Are you restless seeing Yaqiu going off to make money? What kind of work do you want to do?”
Zhou Yanwen lowered his voice, as if worried Xu Yaqiu might hear, “Dad, Mom, is there any work related to the military?”
He hadn’t seen Fang Xiaoluo for a while, and it was driving him mad.
Qian Haixia understood immediately, “Yanwen, tell me, are you still thinking about Xiaoluo?”
Zhou Yanwen chuckled. What else could his mother not understand?
She glanced toward the bathroom, speaking softly, “Son, you and Xiaoluo just aren’t meant to be. Don’t dwell on it. No matter what, living a good life with Yaqiu should be your priority.”
Zhou Yanwen said, “Mom, you need to give me some time to get used to it. Let me spend more time with her, and once I see she’s doing well, I’ll move on.”
Zhou Ping and Qian Haixia both seemed to understand.
After all, Fang Xiaoluo was already married, and Zhou Yanwen needed to accept it so that he could focus on his own life.
Qian Haixia said, “Ping take a look at your friends and see if they have jobs related to the army. Anyway, sending Yanwen to the army won’t work. He can’t handle that kind of hardship.”
Zhou Ping thought for a moment. “I’ll ask around tomorrow.”
