Chapter 13: A Love-Brain is a Man’s Best Dowry

Ji Yang looked at Su Ai, bewildered and embarrassed by his previous words.

His blushing face confirmed Su Ai’s suspicions: this man liked her.

Many women in the village had tried to marry Ji Yang he was tall, handsome, and capable but he had chosen her.

Su Ai had always assumed it was out of necessity, never imagining he actually harbored feelings for her.

What she thought was a one-sided, unrequited love turned out to be a deeply hidden mutual affection.

This discovery was as surprising as her rebirth, filling Su Ai with immense joy.

Her eyes burned with excitement, her heart pounding.  If she didn’t do something, she feared the excitement would consume her.

“You…”

“Mmm!”

Ji Yang’s eyes widened in disbelief.

Her kiss was fierce, as if she wanted to swallow him whole, her “bad girl” nature unchanged.

Although Su Ai wasn’t crying, he tasted a hint of bitterness and saltiness, as if someone’s tears had flowed into their hearts.

By the end of the kiss, Ji Yang was dizzy, disoriented, and completely flushed.  Su Ai finally let go.

Her fiery, bright eyes locked onto Ji Yang, making him unable to meet her gaze.

Su Ai’s voice was slightly hoarse: “Although I can’t figure out what you see in me,”

Out of all the hardworking, capable, and obedient girls, he chose her, a flawed woman.

Su Ai’s smile widened.

“But your taste is excellent.”

Ji Yang, still slightly dazed, chuckled at her words.

Indeed, Su Ai was still the shameless Su Ai, capable of self-praise to this extent.

“Do you find my words funny?”

“No.”

Su Ai pinched Ji Yang’s cheek.

“Last time, it was like this. But this time, Ji Yang, you’ve won.”

“Don’t keep touching me,” Ji Yang said, blushing uncomfortably.

He didn’t understand Su Ai’s words then, but years later, when he stood at the pinnacle of success, countless people would praise his discerning eye, just as Su Ai did now.

Seeing Ji Yang’s shyness, Su Ai couldn’t help but kiss him again.

She hadn’t kissed him when she wasn’t sure of his feelings, but now that she knew he liked her, she kissed him whenever she wanted.

The plan to divorce in a few months or a year was nonsense.

What did it matter that she’d promised? It was all nonsense.

“Don’t keep…”

“Keep what?” Su Ai’s eyes were bright with amusement.

“Keep being shameless.”

“Okay.”

“Then don’t keep seducing me.” Su Ai found her husband’s face incredibly attractive; the celebrities and models who had pursued her in her past life were nothing compared to him.

Even though their advances were more direct, Su Ai found her husband’s blush and the intensity in his eyes far more alluring than any brazen approach.  His words piqued her interest instead of causing annoyance.

“When did I seduce you?” Ji Yang thought Su Ai was getting bolder: “I’m talking about serious matters.”

Su Ai rubbed Ji Yang’s fingertips, her gaze intense as she leaned closer: “So am I.”

“We’ll miss the bus if we don’t leave now.”  (This abruptly ended the conversation.)

Seeing Su Ai’s endless excitement, Ji Yang felt he had to stop her.

Su Ai crouched down and put Ji Yang back on her back.

“When your leg is healed, I won’t let you off.”

Let him off from what?

Adults understood. Ji Yang couldn’t help it; Su Ai was full of suggestive talk.

“Su Ai, can you be a little more reserved?”

“If I’m reserved, will I be able to marry you?”

“If I’m reserved, will you marry me?”

Ji Yang fell silent, gaining a clearer understanding of Su Ai’s unrestrained behavior.

“They say a love-brain is a man’s best dowry.  It’s true.”

As she carried Ji Yang out, Su Ai mumbled something. Ji Yang didn’t hear clearly, so he asked:

“What did you say?”

“I said I’m very charming!”

Wasn’t she charming?

A lazy thug being liked by a handsome, capable, and gentle husband—that’s not just charming, it’s exceptionally charming.

Ji Yang, on the other hand, was hopelessly lovesick. Otherwise, he wouldn’t have fallen for Su Ai in the first place.

Because they lingered in the room, Su Ai had to run quickly to the bus stop, already hearing the bus horn, afraid it would leave.

They arrived just in time. Fortunately, the bus driver, seeing their luggage and Lele, waited for them.

But because they were late, the bus was packed, with no seats left.

This was the only bus to the city that day.

Their village wasn’t the starting point; the bus picked up passengers from several villages along the way, stopping at each village before heading to the city.

People got off along the way, but having no seat was normal.

Not only were there no seats, but the aisle was also filled with small stools, and many people sat on the floor.

The aisle was cluttered with luggage bags of rice and flour, vegetables, live chickens and ducks, even people carrying small dogs.

The bus smelled of chicken droppings, gasoline, cheap leather, and smelly feet.

The conductor helped Su Ai put their luggage on the rack and looked at the couple.

“Folks, would anyone be willing to give up their seat? This woman’s husband has a leg injury. Let’s give him a seat.”

The conductor called out several times, but no one got up.

In the last row, several young thugs with long hair covering their eyes, wearing bell-bottom pants and leather jackets, were sitting.

They weren’t from Su Ai’s village, but they knew her.

They whistled at Su Ai.

“Hey, let’s see who’s bringing her crippled husband out.”

“A grown man being carried by his wife isn’t he ashamed?”

“If I were you, I’d just kill myself.  How could you even have the courage to go out?”

“He needs help with everything, my god! Did he poop himself?  Being on the same bus with you is disgusting.  Get off!”

Su Ai’s eyes turned cold at the stares from the back.

Looking at the thugs, Su Ai narrowed her eyes.  She’d been worried about finding a seat.

Now, there were seats.
