Chapter 28: Dad is in your care

Su Ai spent the afternoon at the hospital with Ji Yang.

Ji Yang suggested Su Ai take Lele out to play.

But Lele shook his head politely.

“I want to take care of Dad.”

“Lele will have plenty of time to play later, but Dad only needs care for a short time.”

This touched both parents.

Su Ai had to admit that Ji Yang had raised their son very well.

“Then Mommy will take you out to buy some toys and books.  Daddy can read to you and play with you later, okay?”

Lele nodded.

He had been watching his father’s IV drip, but it was boring, and he was almost asleep.

Su Ai took Lele out and bought some toys, including Go and checkers.

She also bought several books some for Ji Yang and some for Lele.

When Lele was tired of playing, he sat next to his father and listened to him tell stories.

The father and son played happily while Su Ai went to prepare dinner.

Su Ai saw spring bamboo shoots at the market and made fish soup and stir-fried bamboo shoots for dinner.

They were tender and delicious.

She also made minced meat and egg custard for Lele, his favorite dish since trying Su Ai’s version.

When she brought the food, the entire ward filled with its aroma.

“Wow, Su, your cooking is amazing!”

“We’ve been so hungry smelling your food all day!”

“Great cooking!”

Su Ai smiled: “It’s just home-style cooking.”

“Eating meat every day, such a wasteful woman!”

“Someone is sick; I wonder how much money you have to spend like this.”

“Your clothes are worn out, and you still eat meat every day!”

Su Ai could be frugal in many aspects, but never with her husband and child.

In her past life, she had worn and eaten the best things.

But now Ji Yang was sick and needed nutrition, and Lele needed nutrition to grow.

She didn’t need to buy clothes, but she couldn’t skimp on their food.

Yet she was being lectured?

Su Ai looked at the man speaking.

He had several meat buns and a bowl of soup in front of him.  His resentful expression clearly showed jealousy.

Su Ai sneered: “You don’t like meat; why did you buy meat buns? Why not eat cornbread?”

“You dress well, but you haven’t saved any money; you can’t even afford meat.”

“A grown man, can’t earn money, and gossips about his wife. You’re a loser!”

“Good-for-nothing!”

The ward fell silent.

Everyone looked at Su Ai in disbelief.  Seeing her kindness towards her husband and child, and her smiling demeanor, they thought she was kind and gentle.

But she was so sharp-tongued!

She wasn’t someone to be trifled with.

Which man could tolerate being called a loser and good-for-nothing?

Especially when Su Ai’s words were true, making it even more hurtful.

“You little bitch! You…”

Slap!

Su Ai slapped him.

Her usual rebellious and reckless expression was back.

“Try saying that again?”

The woman standing next to the man finally reacted and lunged at Su Ai.

Women fighting usually pull hair and scratch faces.

But Su Ai didn’t give her a chance, swinging a chair.

Bang!

The woman fell to the ground, unable to get up for a while.

It was just a verbal argument, but Su Ai’s fierceness shocked everyone.

Right now, Su Ai doesn’t seem like a virtuous wife and mother; she’s more like a young hoodlum.

Su Ai pulled out a cigarette, put it in her mouth, and looked at the stunned couple.

“No one in the surrounding villages dares to scold me. You two are pretty bold.”

She didn’t light the cigarette in the ward, but the way she held it showed her familiarity.

She really is a young hoodlum.

Seeing Su Ai’s fierce demeanor, the couple didn’t dare to say another word.

Su Ai swept the man’s food off the table.

Meat buns scattered on the floor, and soup spilled.

“Since you have such a problem with others eating meat, don’t eat it.”

“Don’t let me hear you say another sour word in front of my husband and child.”

“Make them unhappy once, and I’ll send you to the afterlife.”

Su Ai pointed her finger like a gun, shooting at his forehead, before returning to Ji Yang.

She put the cigarette back in her pocket. Ji Yang released his hand from over his son’s eyes.

“Dad, next time, cover my ears too. I heard everything.”

“You covered my eyes, but I still had images in my head.”

Ji Yang patted his son’s head.

“Hurry up and eat.”

He didn’t say anything about Su Ai’s outburst.

Su Ai’s anger was justified; she wasn’t always in the ward.

Since this man started trouble, he wasn’t a good person.

If she didn’t subdue them this time, and she wasn’t in the ward, the immobile patient and the child could be in danger, and Su Ai would go crazy.

After dinner, Ji Yang offered Su Ai his hand.

Su Ai sheepishly gave him the cigarette from her pocket.

“I didn’t smoke it.”

“I know.” Ji Yang hadn’t smelled smoke on Su Ai.

“Quitting?” Ji Yang asked.

Su Ai nodded vigorously: “Quit, long ago.”

“I haven’t smoked these days.”

Ji Yang responded, putting the cigarette away: “It’s bad for your health.”

Su Ai nodded: “I know.”

Su Ai brought Ji Yang water to wash up. The man in the next bed gave Ji Yang a thumbs-up.

To make a she-devil so obedient, this brother is a tough guy.

Ji Yang chuckled but didn’t explain.

You can’t tame a wild horse, just like before.

Unless she willingly gives you the reins.

Even then, you can’t control her.

Because she always has the ability to break free.

She is always herself first, then Ji Yang’s wife and Lele’s mother.

That night, Su Ai slept at the hospital again.

The next day, Ji Yang was much better.

The doctor said his recovery was good.

Ji Yang couldn’t move, but he could eat and drink.  He had a catheter, so he didn’t need to urinate.

Lele could watch the IV drip.

Su Ai discussed with Ji Yang about setting up a stall for a few days.

“We’re running low on money.”

“While you’re hospitalized, I’ll earn some money to buy you things for your recovery when we go home.”

“Okay.”

“Don’t overwork yourself.  If you’re setting up a stall, just buy food; you don’t need to cook.”

“Anything is fine.”

“Okay.”

“I’m leaving then.”

“Okay.”

“Lele, Dad is in your care.”

“Lele guarantees mission completion!” The child patted his chest.

“Good boy.”
