Chapter 33: Is She Your Mistress?

“Alright, sister, you’re straightforward.”

“Sister, don’t worry. Ten days is ten days, nine days is nine days. You can just set up your stall here; no one dares to touch your business.”

Su Ai nodded, drank two more cups of water, and then left.

No further trouble arose. The boss kept his word; no one was allowed to sell milk tea or similar products near the entrance.

Su Ai had a monopoly, and her daily sales sometimes exceeded 1000 yuan.

Su Ai sold for another nine days.

On the seventh day, she kept her word and told the boss how to process the corn.

On the ninth night, Su Ai gave the boss all the recipes.

As she left, she told the boss: “If you have time, you can also add some honey beans to the milk tea.”

Red bean milk tea, that is.

“You can add some fruit in the summer.”

“Add some ice cubes.”

“You can sell it at a higher price then.”

They were both businesspeople; Su Ai’s suggestion was immediately understood by the boss.

Despite the boss’s repeated attempts to persuade her to stay for a meal, Su Ai refused. The boss packed a large table of delicious food for Su Ai and called a car to take her to the hospital.

Su Ai also gave her equipment to the boss.

She also kept her promise to compensate the cleaners with 100 yuan, giving it to them directly.

Su Ai then returned the rented house.  Once everything was settled, she carried a large bag of money back to the hospital to pack up, preparing to take her husband home.

When they were processing the discharge, the doctor shook his head: “Other patients are eager to be discharged, afraid of spending an extra cent. But you… you don’t want to leave.”

“The injections and care at home aren’t as professional as our hospital. It’s not easy to come here; you might as well stay a couple more days.” Now that she had earned so much money, Su Ai didn’t care about the few hundred yuan in medical expenses.

The doctor prescribed some medicine for them to take home.

“Your nutrition is keeping up, and your husband is young, so his recovery ability is quite good. His bones have healed well.”

“After going home, he can try walking with a cane.”

“But don’t walk for too long at first; it’s not good for bone growth.”

“Rest when he’s tired; prioritize your husband’s feelings; there’s no standard.”

“Okay, thank you, doctor.”

Before leaving, Su Ai gave the doctor and nurses commendation banners, making the doctor very happy.

This wasn’t just for show; Su Ai was genuinely grateful to the doctor.  There are still many good doctors with medical ethics in this era.

Since Su Ai’s husband was hospitalized, the doctors and nurses had been very attentive, frequently checking on him and taking meticulous care.

With the commendation banners, the doctor did a favor, saying that there was a vacant ambulance at the hospital today. If they were willing to pay, they could use the ambulance to go home.

The doctor only dared to say this because he saw that Su Ai’s family was not short of money.

Su Ai’s eyes lit up immediately.

“Of course, we need it; we really need it.”

“It’s so far; money is not a problem.”

“Thank you, doctor.”

“Thank you.”

The village bus was always crowded; even if you got on, you might not have a seat, and you would have to transfer buses several times. Su Ai was worried about this.

Taxis weren’t everywhere in this era. Anyone who had a car was definitely someone with status, and they wouldn’t drive you back for a small amount of money.

Su Ai was prepared to charter a bus back, but unexpectedly, things took a turn for the better.

Ambulances weren’t as large as they would be in the future; they were small cars.

Sometimes, they would be taken out by leaders.

The driver stopped at the entrance.  After learning Su Ai’s home address, he was still wondering if this poor village would have enough money to pay for the fare.

After Su Ai put her things in, she directly handed the driver thirty yuan.

She also added two packs of cigarettes.

“Master, thank you for your trouble.”

The driver immediately smiled: “Oh, no trouble, no trouble at all.”

“Don’t worry; I guarantee I’ll get you home safely.”

Su Ai’s family of three got into the car.

Along the way, Ji Lele looked out the window: “Mom, this is much faster than the bus.”

“Good.”

Ji Yang looked at the receding road and was also happy.

“Finally able to go home.”

He hadn’t been back for many days; he missed home too.

The car didn’t stop to pick up passengers along the way, and it was faster than the bus. When they came, Su Ai and the others left in the morning and only arrived at the hospital in the afternoon.

Going back by car, they checked out of the hospital in the late morning and arrived at the village around noon.

Cars were still quite rare in this era.

As soon as the car drove into the village, many people saw it.

“Is that a car?”

“Coming to our village?”

“Who’s in that car?”

“So awesome, they even have a car?”

“Let’s go see where the car is parked!”

Everyone followed the car, and finally, it stopped in front of Ji’s house.

“Is that Doctor Ji’s car?”

“Doctor Ji hasn’t been home for many days.”

“We haven’t seen Su Ai these days either.”

“LittLele Le isn’t home either. My son has been looking for Lele for many days and hasn’t found him.”

“Su Ai! Did she run off with a rich man?”

“Lele got out too.”

Su Ai went to open her own front door before turning around.

Then everyone saw a jaw-dropping sight.

Su Ai bent down, and with the man’s help, carried someone out of the car.

They saw the person’s face.

“Ji Yang?”

“Doctor Ji?”

The driver helped Su Ai carry the person into the house and exchanged a few polite words with her.

“The person’s been delivered; I won’t disturb you any further.”

“I’ll go now.”

Su Ai politely urged him to stay: “It’s past noon; why don’t you stay for a meal?”

“I can make something quickly.”

The driver waved his hand; he had already received thirty yuan.

That was enough for him to eat something good in the city.

“No need, sister. Your house is cold and empty; you haven’t been back for a long time, so you need to tidy up. I won’t disturb you.”

“You go back quickly; I’m leaving too.”

Su Ai said a few more words of thanks, and the driver drove away.

Actually, Su Ai didn’t really want him to stay for a meal.  Her house was messy, and there was nothing there; it was really inconvenient.

After seeing the driver off, she turned to go inside when an aunt grabbed her.

“Su Ai, who was that driving the car? Is he your lover?”

“What did you do with Doctor Ji?”

“You’re messing around with other men and bullying Doctor Ji?”

“You’re utterly heartless!”
