Chapter 34: Shocking News

Everyone immediately started to criticize Su Ai.

“Doctor Ji treated you well enough. Now that he’s crippled, you’re going to run off with someone else. Su Ai, don’t be so heartless!”

“Su Ai, you’re a shameless slut!”

Su Ai stopped pushing open the door and turned around.

Looking at everyone who was criticizing her: “Are you sick?”

“Are you blind and also mentally ill?” Su Ai started to lash out.

“I carried him. Are you all blind?”

“I’m shameless?  Aunt Liu, why don’t you tell everyone who you were with in the cornfield last year?”

“How did you scream?”

“Who was it that cried out ‘Oh, my dear,’ screaming like a pig being slaughtered?”  With Su Ai’s words, everyone’s gossiping gaze immediately shifted to another target.

The fat Aunt Liu, wearing a dark floral cloth, immediately jumped up and retorted loudly, her voice sharp.

“Su Ai! You’re lying!”

“Little vixen, if you dare to talk nonsense again, I’ll tear your mouth apart!”

“I’m lying?”

Su Ai crossed her arms and sneered: “Uncle Wang talks about you every day at the mahjong parlor, saying you have a mole on your butt and like to wear gaudy red underwear. Let everyone hear if what I’m saying is a lie.”

These people immediately started insulting her, even with gloating smiles; they weren’t genuinely worried about Ji Yang.

That’s how people are in this village; many are just here for the spectacle.

They just want to step on you, they have bad intentions.

Why should Su Ai put up with them?

With Su Ai’s words, the whole crowd exploded.

“Goodness, I went to the bathhouse with Aunt Liu, and she really does have a mole on her butt.”

“If it weren’t for what Su Ai said, how would we know?  Su Ai would never go to the bathhouse with Aunt Liu.”

Su Ai doesn’t have a good relationship with anyone in the village.

“And Aunt Liu really does like red underwear.”

“We often go to the city together to buy things, and Aunt Liu always buys that color.”

Everyone’s criticism of Su Ai immediately shifted to Aunt Liu.

The looks of watching a good show, the gossiping eyes, made Aunt Liu wish she could find a crack in the earth to hide in.

“Actually, I’m embarrassed to say this. If Su Ai hadn’t mentioned it today, I wouldn’t have said it. I thought I had seen wrong.”

“Once, I went up the mountain to dig wild vegetables, in that gully, I was resting nearby, and I did hear some noises.”

“The woman’s screams were very loud, and the voice really sounded like Aunt Liu’s.”

“But I was startled and ran away.  After that, I pretended it didn’t happen. After all, I couldn’t just ask Aunt Liu about this out of the blue. But now that I think about it, it really might have been Aunt Liu.”

“The man was Wang Erma.”

“Do you remember Aunt Liu’s two children? I’ve said it before; they don’t look like Brother Qiang at all. Now that you mention it, they look more like Wang Erma.”

“Brother Qiang has double eyelids and a high nose bridge.”

“Right, Wang Erma has single eyelids and thick lips.”

“Could they really not be her biological children?”

Everyone looked at Aunt Liu with eyes that wanted to strip her naked.

Aunt Liu was also scared at this point, but she couldn’t admit it even if she died.

“Bullshit!”

“Bullshit!”

“Su Ai, you little vixen, I’ll kill you!”

“You’re the dirty, rotten, shameless one, you slut!”

However, Su Ai responded by slamming the door shut.

“My son, Lele, anyone with eyes can see that he looks exactly like my husband.”

“Your son might not be.”

“Who is dirty and rotten?  Everyone isn’t blind; you can’t change things just by cursing.”

Su Ai’s voice drifted out slowly from behind the door, and everyone nodded.

That’s right.

Su Ai might be a bit of a scoundrel, and there’s some gossip, but there’s nothing wrong with Ji Lele.

Ji Lele’s nose and eyes are a miniature version of Ji Yang’s.

There’s nothing to fault.

You could say they aren’t father and son, and no one would believe you.

But Aunt Liu’s son is really…

Aunt Liu was furious, but everyone ignored her and ran away.

They couldn’t contain this shocking secret; they had to tell someone else.

Especially Aunt Liu’s husband Liu Qiang.

How could he not know about such a big thing?

The crowd quickly dispersed. At this point, everyone even forgot to ask where Ji Yang had been.

Where had Su Ai been all these days?

How did they get here by car?

What had they been doing?

Everyone had come to inquire about Su Ai’s private affairs, but now no one remembered.

When Su Ai returned home, Ji Yang was sitting on the bed: “Is what you said true or false?”

Su Ai nodded, wiping the dusty table with a rag.

“Of course it’s true.”

“I don’t lie.”

Only tells lies.

“This Aunt Liu…” Ji Yang sighed.

He wasn’t one to meddle in other people’s business, but he felt sorry for Brother Qiang.

“Brother Qiang worked so hard to earn more money so his wife and children could live better.”

“He brought all the money back.”

“His clothes are worn out, but he’s reluctant to buy new ones. He does a lot of heavy work, and his back aches badly, but he’s reluctant to take more medicine.”

“If he knew about this, he would probably…”

Not be able to handle it.

Su Ai didn’t know what to say.  It was his wife, not her, who wronged Liu Qiang.

“Honest people always end up badly,” Ji Yang suddenly said.

This hit Su Ai’s sore spot.

Ji Yang was also honest, and in his previous life, he didn’t have a good ending either.

Su Ai felt that Ji Yang might be feeling empathetic.

After all, she had also been a scoundrel before.

Su Ai immediately stopped speaking.

Even if she was at a dinner party or drinking session, no matter how eloquent or persuasive she was, she couldn’t say those technically skillful, false words in front of Ji Yang.

She only wanted to say words from the heart.

Not knowing what to say, she buried her head in her work.

Ji Lele didn’t understand the strange atmosphere between his parents.

But he had already organized his snacks and toys.

“Mom, can I go out to play for a while? I haven’t seen my friends in a long time.”

“Go ahead,” Su Ai said, seeing the toys in Ji Lele’s hands. “Do you remember what I told you before?”

Ji Lele nodded, very excited to try what his mother had said.

“Then go ahead.”

“Come back if you need anything. Mom needs to clean up the house.”

“Okay, Mom.”

Ji Lele went out to play, and Su Ai decided she should cook first.

“I’ll clean up the kitchen and cook first.”

She hurried out. Ji Yang felt that Su Ai’s mood seemed a little off.  Only then did he realize that his previous words might have been misunderstood by Su Ai.
