Chapter 6: The Grand Finale
Noticing Xia Nanxing’s discomfort, Lu Jiashu stepped in to mediate, “Alright, big brother, hasn’t Wenbo already apologized? Let’s go—Uncle Lu is waving us over.”
Xia Yingying, who had remained silent earlier, now spoke considerately, “It’s alright, President Lu. You go ahead. I can take care of my wound in the lounge myself.”
“Okay, take care. I’ll come check on you in the lounge later,” Lu Huaijin said, his concern for her unmistakable.
At this scene, both Lu Jiashu and Xia Wenbo immediately turned their gazes toward Xia Nanxing.
The onlookers, quietly enjoying the drama, also inexplicably synchronized their stares in her direction.
Seeing Xia Nanxing act as if nothing had happened, continuing to trail after Lu Huaijin like his little shadow, Lu Jiashu couldn’t help but laugh in exasperation.
“You really…” Lu Jiashu pointed at Xia Nanxing, at a loss for words.
Unfazed, Xia Nanxing shrugged shamelessly. “What about me? That’s just how us love brains are. You wouldn’t understand. Move aside.”
Once she caught up and saw Lu Huaijin busy talking to Uncle Lu with no time for her, Xia Nanxing quickly pulled out her phone to message Xia Wenbo.
[Sorry, little bro. I dragged you into that earlier. I’ll buy you that Bugatti you wanted.]
Outside, everyone addressed Xia Wenbo as “Young Master Xia.” If not for her, he would never have had to lower his head to Lu Huaijin.
Xia Wenbo didn’t hold back either, replying instantly: [Thanks, sis.]
Seeing her generosity, the system reminded her: [The sports car your brother’s been eyeing costs 30 million.]
[What’s 30 million? Once I complete the mission, there’s still that 10-billion reward, isn’t there?]
The system fell silent.
Feeling even guiltier, Xia Nanxing sent another message: [Once I’m richer in a bit, I’ll get you a yacht too.]
[Sis, you’re as beautiful as you are kind—love you forever!]
Xia Nanxing smirked and was about to put her phone away when a message from her bodyguard came through.
[Young Miss, Xia Yingying was knocked unconscious and taken to the Lu family’s basement.]
[Keep watching. Don’t let her die today—it’d be bad luck.]
After swiftly replying, Xia Nanxing immediately deleted the chat history.
Just as she hit delete, she looked up to see Uncle Lu and Lu Huaijin suddenly fighting.
“Damn, things escalated fast?”
[Host, call for help! Lu Huaijin’s uncle isn’t acting normal—he’s armed with a knife.]
“Huaijin-ge, be careful! Your uncle has a knife!”
Lu Huaijin absolutely couldn’t die. Xia Nanxing lifted her skirt and rushed forward.
At the critical moment, without a second thought, she shoved Lu Huaijin aside. As she dodged the blade, the momentum sent her crashing hard onto the floor.
The sudden chaos shocked everyone in the room. Bodyguards immediately emerged from the corners to restrain the suddenly deranged Uncle Lu.
Lu Jiashu helped Xia Nanxing up, scolding her, “Xia Nanxing, do you even have a brain? Were you trying to get yourself killed? Charging at a knife like that!”
“Sis, are you hurt?” Xia Wenbo also rushed over, fearfully checking her arms.
If his sister acted like this, the fault wasn’t hers—it was all that male fox spirit’s doing.
Xia Wenbo’s face darkened, wanting to seize the opportunity to scold Lu Huaijin, but before he could speak, he heard Lu Huaijin urgently instruct the bodyguards: “Seal all exits. Everyone leaving must be thoroughly checked. Hurry and find her—we must locate Yingying immediately.”
The guests attending today’s banquet were all wealthy or influential figures, making Lu Huaijin’s demand utterly unreasonable.
Chairman Lu had just arrived when he heard his elder brother’s verbal abuse, his expression already grim. Hearing his son’s words, his frown deepened.
“Enough, stop this nonsense. Your uncle is just drunk and behaving inappropriately. Take him away to sober up,” Chairman Lu said, unwilling to escalate the scandal and air the Lu family’s dirty laundry in public.
“Dad, didn’t you hear what Uncle just said? And you’re still defending him? He admitted to swapping the babies back then—even my car accident years ago was his doing… And now he wants to kill me and Yingying!”
“Your uncle’s matters can be dealt with after today. I’ll make sure he gives you an explanation.” As long as Lu Huaijin remained unharmed, it was a minor issue. Chairman Lu didn’t even spare Xia Yingying a second thought.
His concern was solely directed at Xia Nanxing. “Xingxing, you weren’t hurt just now, were you? Thank you for stepping in.”
“Just a minor injury. As long as Huaijin-gege is okay, that’s all that matters,” Xia Nanxing replied with a fragile smile. She couldn’t very well mention how much her backside hurt from the fall.
Lu Huaijin clenched his fists, standing firm against his father. “All exits must be sealed today until Xia Yingying is found. She’s the person I love—my girlfriend. I won’t let anything happen to her at my birthday banquet. Otherwise, I’ll never be able to celebrate my birthday again in this lifetime.”
Girlfriend?
The moment this keyword was uttered, those who heard it couldn’t suppress murmurs of surprise.
Xia Nanxing let out a pained “Aiyo!” before clutching her chest, her face pale as she collapsed to the floor.
Her condition alarmed Xia Wenbo, his voice tightening with worry. “Jie, are you okay? Jie!”
“Young Master Lu, we’ve found Miss Yingying. She was tied up in the basement,” a bodyguard announced at that moment.
Lu Huaijin barely glanced at Xia Nanxing before immediately following the bodyguard to the basement to find Xia Yingying.
The two met halfway, and Xia Yingying tearfully threw herself into Lu Huaijin’s arms, her pitiful, disheveled appearance prompting him to gently pat her back in comfort.
“It’s okay, it’s okay. I won’t let anything happen to you.”
The tender, intimate atmosphere between them made it clear how well-matched they seemed.
The banquet guests, suddenly fed several juicy pieces of gossip, couldn’t help but whisper among themselves.
“They really do look perfect together. For Young Master Lu to acknowledge her as his girlfriend, it must be true love.”
“I always said the Xia family’s eldest daughter stood no chance. If she could’ve won him over, she would’ve done it by now. Young Master Lu just isn’t into her type.”
“Xia Nanxing would risk her life for Young Master Lu. Did you see how she threw herself in front of that knife earlier? Do you think this young lady will keep chasing after him, becoming the other woman for love?”
“It’s entirely possible. If she really does that, the Xia family will become a laughingstock.”
“Very likely. Just look at her—does she seem like someone who can walk away from Young Master Lu?”
[Host, mission progress at 99.9%. You can faint now. Still watching the show? You can faint now!]
“Ah~ I feel so unwell…” Xia Nanxing weakly collapsed to the ground.
Xia Wenbo panicked and caught her in his arms, shouting loudly, “Where’s the doctor? Where’s the doctor? Someone get over here and help!”
The sudden turn of events shocked everyone, making them inwardly exclaim in disbelief.
“The Xia family’s eldest daughter has a heart condition—could she really have been angered to death like this?”
“If that’s the case, wouldn’t the two families become sworn enemies?”
The doctor, who had just been pulled to Xia Yingying’s side on standby, immediately turned around upon Xia Wenbo’s call to attend to Xia Nanxing.
Along with the doctor, Xia Yingying and Lu Huaijin also hurried over.
“Is Nanxing okay?” Xia Yingying and Lu Huaijin asked in unison.
Xia Wenbo slapped their hands away. “Get lost.”
Seeing Chairman Lu’s darkened expression and Lu Huaijin’s anxious gaze, Xia Yingying tearfully defended herself, “Don’t be like this. We’re just worried about her. Given my relationship with Nanxing, I would never hurt her.”
“You’re just a bastard child—who knows what schemes you have in mind?” Xia Wenbo retorted mercilessly.
“I’m not a bastard child! Back then, my mother and him were in love freely, and I never even thought of returning to the Xia family…”
Xia Yingying’s tearful explanation fell on deaf ears as Xia Wenbo ignored her completely, turning to the doctor instead. “Well? Is my sister okay?”
Chairman Lu, however, seemed slightly appeased by Xia Yingying’s words.
If Xia Nanxing really suffered an incident at this banquet, having another daughter of the Xia family as a buffer might prevent the two families from completely falling out.
His most ideal daughter-in-law was Xia Nanxing, but his son didn’t like her—not even enough to endure a loveless marriage. What could he do?
After all, he was still a father and had to consider his son’s feelings. Since Lu Huaijin was so infatuated with Xia Yingying, he had no choice but to grudgingly accept it.
“A bastard child? She’s Dad’s daughter?” Xia Nanxing gasped out these words before collapsing completely, unconscious.
The doctor maintained a calm expression, though inwardly panicking. “The young miss’s condition requires immediate hospitalization.”
“Then hurry up! What are you dawdling for?” Xia Wenbo urged.
First, Uncle Lu had erupted in violence, and now Xia Nanxing had fainted and needed to be rushed to the hospital—Lu family’s birthday banquet had descended into utter chaos.
At this point, Lu Huaijin had no mind left for celebrating his birthday.
As Lu Huaijin moved to follow, Chairman Lu grabbed his arm. “Jiashu has already gone to the hospital. You shouldn’t go—it’s inappropriate. You and your girlfriend stay and handle the remaining matters.”
Xia Yingying also clung to Lu Huaijin’s arm, pleading, “Huaijin, there are still so many guests here…”
[Congratulations, Host! Mission complete! Time to celebrate~]
