I Pretended to Be a Love Fool, but the Crazy Pursuer is Serious Chapter 7

Chapter 7: Dad, You’re Going to Be the Death of Me

[System, where’s my hundred-billion gift package?]

Xia Nanxing was practically rubbing her hands together in anticipation. If the system hadn’t offered such an extravagant reward and given her an identity dripping with financial power, she wouldn’t have been so eager to complete the task.

The initial perks the system provided—parents she could rely on—had already been delivered. Now, it was time for her to collect the final payment.

[I told you before, the hundred-billion gift package has always been there. As long as you’re alive, you’ll get it.]

[What do you mean, System? Explain it clearly.]

[Aside from the visible assets, your mother left you a secret inheritance of ten billion in cash.]

Xia Nanxing had long known that the system couldn’t just conjure money or items out of thin air. But she hadn’t expected it to be yet another inheritance.

Her mother, whom she had never met, had already left her an overwhelming amount of assets—properties, shares, jewelry—and now, on top of all that, there was this massive sum of cash.

No wonder her father, that playboy, had willingly agreed to the arranged marriage. Who wouldn’t want to marry a walking, talking money tree?

[I thought you were going to give me lottery numbers to buy a winning ticket. But no, it’s inheritance again. Fine, what conditions did my mom set this time?]

Though she was a little disappointed she couldn’t get the money immediately, Xia Nanxing wasn’t picky. Money was money.

She was already familiar with how her mother structured these inheritances—like a game where you had to clear a level to unlock the next reward. The woman had clearly been paranoid about her child squandering everything and ending up destitute, so she’d set up safeguards at every turn.

[There’s no lottery with a ten-billion jackpot. And this time, it’s different—you can get all the money at once. The conditions for inheriting your mother’s ten-billion fortune are as follows… Suffer a critical illness… Fail in business and go bankrupt… Become single again after one year of marriage… Have a child reach the age of three… Turn 35 years old…]

Naturally, she could just wait until she turned 35 to claim the money. But Xia Nanxing was impatient. The meat was dangling right in front of her, yet she couldn’t take a bite—how frustrating!

[System, I don’t want to wait. What if I start a business? Success is hard, but failing shouldn’t be too difficult, right?]

[You might not have read carefully. First, you’d have to grow the company’s valuation to one billion to meet the condition.]

Aside from her mother, even her father wouldn’t just hand her a billion to play around with.

Xia Nanxing had lived two lives, both plagued by heart disease, constantly under the threat of death. Her daily focus had always been on how to enjoy life to the fullest, making the most of each day.

She wasn’t insane enough to risk shortening her already fragile lifespan by throwing herself into the cutthroat world of business.

So, asking her to start a company and scale it to a billion in valuation was genuinely pushing it.

[Fine, System, just give me a recommendation based on difficulty.]

[This system recommends a contractual marriage. This option only takes one year. Alternatively, you could have a child—your current health allows for pregnancy, though this option takes four years…]

Xia Nanxing decided to trust the scientific analysis.

[Marriage. I’ll choose marriage. System, recommend me some candidates.]

[Apologies, Host. The system can’t do that.]

In a tone that sounded suspiciously like an employee clocking out for the day, the system cheerfully announced:

[The system will go offline in three minutes. Wishing the host a happy life, full of joy every day~~]

[Happy? Oh, I’ll be happy, alright. Heh heh~]

Her wealth in this lifetime was more than the Happy Beans she had in her previous life.

Every morning when she opened her eyes, it was hard not to smile.

**[Friendly reminder: Although the story has reached its conclusion and the parallel world is now functioning normally, it’s best if you avoid provoking Lu Huaijin and Xia Yingying. The healthier and happier the male and female leads are, the more stable this world will be.]**

**[Am I an idiot? The mission’s already done—why would I still want to be Lu Huaijin’s lapdog? Goodbye, system! I’ll miss you, mua~~]**

Not only was she free from missions, but she also had a massive inheritance waiting for her in the future.

When Xia Nanxing woke up in the hospital, there was still a smile on her lips.

“Sis, are you okay? Stop smiling—it’s creeping me out,” Xia Wenbo said, feeling uneasy.

Even Lu Jiashu, who used to love bickering with Xia Nanxing, didn’t dare provoke her now. He stood to the side, hesitating, racking his brain for comforting words.

After a long silence, he finally gave up and said, “Maybe you should just cry.”

“Cry about what? I’m alive and well—what’s there to cry about?”

The mission was complete. She no longer had to worry about her heart condition. Right now, she wanted to laugh out loud three times.

Seeing Xia Wenbo and Lu Jiashu exchange uneasy glances, too afraid to speak, Xia Nanxing cleared her throat and declared, “Don’t worry about me. Surviving this ordeal has given me a new perspective. Love may be precious, but life is priceless. Romance? Not even dogs would bother with it!”

Was this really something Xia Nanxing would say?

It was so out of character that Xia Wenbo didn’t even dare agree. Blindly agreeing without understanding the situation might just set her off.

“From now on, none of you are allowed to mention Lu Huaijin in front of me! This chapter is closed—I’m moving on to a brand-new life.”

Xia Wenbo cautiously tested the waters. “Really?”

“Truer than gold.” Xia Nanxing stretched out her hand. “Where’s my phone? Hand it over. This calls for a celebratory social media post.”

She, Xia Nanxing, was going to officially announce on all her social platforms that she was done being a love brain! Anyone who dared bring up her embarrassing past would regret it.

What past? The mission was over, and the first thing she did was cut ties.

Lu Huaijin? Don’t even ask. If you must know, it was just youthful ignorance—stupid, reckless love.

As soon as she got her phone, Xia Nanxing saw countless messages and missed calls.

All of them were concerned about her health.

Whether it was the incident with the knife at the Lu family uncle’s birthday banquet or Lu Huaijin announcing his girlfriend at his own birthday party—Xia Nanxing being so furious she ended up hospitalized—it was all big news in their social circle.

Her hospitalization was impossible to hide.

The juicier the drama, the more people loved it. Tonight’s gossip had even spilled onto the internet.

Only then did Xia Nanxing suddenly remember her father. She turned to Xia Wenbo and asked cautiously, “What did you tell Dad?”

“I told him the doctors checked you out and said you’re fine. But Dad said he’s coming back first thing tomorrow—he sounded angry.” Xia Wenbo warned, “You should still call him and let him know you’re okay. There’s no avoiding this.”

“Fine, I’ll call. I refuse to believe Dad would blame me for this.”

Xia Nanxing immediately dialed Xia Zhengyang’s number. As soon as the call connected, before he could even speak, she demanded, “Dad! Are you trying to drive me crazy?!”

??? Xia Zhengyang looked at his phone in disbelief. The world had turned upside down—who was really driving whom crazy here?
