Qiao Wanqing had Ah Huang let out a few stinky farts in the field, which immediately drove those people away.
They wrinkled their noses and complained as they hurried over to Qiao Wanqing.
The middle-aged woman took several deep breaths of fresh air before saying with an unfriendly expression, “What’s wrong with this field? It stinks so badly. Are you deliberately poisoning us?”
Qiao Wanqing shrugged, “We use organic fertilizer from the farm. It’s just how it is, organic vegetables, you know.”
Their elderly lady retorted, “Don’t lie to me. I’ve grown vegetables myself before. This isn’t normal. Organic fertilizer doesn’t smell like that.”
Qiao Wanqing, unfazed, made up an excuse, “You’re not aware of advances in technology. Nowadays, farm fertilizers are designed to be extra potent and smelly to enrich the soil. That’s why our vegetables are so delicious, because they’re grown with human…”
She continued with a gross description of farm fertilizer to disgust them further.
Their expressions changed drastically, and they dropped the vegetables they had just picked as if they were carrying something horrible.
Cai Boss didn’t know whether to laugh or worry.
She had wanted them to pick quickly and leave, but now this incident might lead to more trouble.
Qiao Wanqing chuckled nervously and reassured them, “Don’t worry, don’t worry. Our organic fertilizer is like this. The vegetables absorb it well, and they’re still good vegetables without any bad smell or anything. If you feel it’s dirty and don’t dare to go into the field again, I’ll pick them myself, I’ll do it.”
“No need,” the middle-aged man spoke up, looking disdainfully at the vegetables. “You’ve grossed us out so much. You still want to sell these vegetables to us? Dream on!”
Cai Boss continued to smile diplomatically, “Mr. Meng, let’s see… how can we resolve this?”
The man snorted and said, “Nowadays, isn’t it advocated to compensate tenfold for deception? Since you cheated my parents out of 200 yuan, let’s make it 2000 yuan as compensation. Additionally, add in the postage for our family’s visit and the time we’ve wasted at work, let’s round it down a bit, a total of 2500 yuan will do.”
Qiao Wanqing couldn’t help but find it amusing that they were demanding so much money from Cai Boss.
If the usually stingy Cai Boss agreed to pay this much, that would be truly surprising.
Just as she wondered how Cai Boss would respond, Cai Boss screamed, “So much money!” then clutched his chest and fainted.
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
Everyone else: “…”
The helpers in Cai Boss’s shop were horrified. “Oh no, our boss has heart disease. This must have been too much for him. What do we do, what do we do?”
Everyone panicked.
While they were being unreasonable, if this incident resulted in harm, they definitely couldn’t afford the consequences.
They scrambled to assist Cai Boss, with someone shouting, “Call 911!”
The middle-aged man said, “Forget 911, quickly get him into our car and to the hospital. Help him up.”
Qiao Wanqing was stunned to see them rush in and rush out.
Given Cai Boss’s physique, it wasn’t surprising he had heart problems.
He wasn’t sure if Cai Boss had genuinely fallen ill or was just scaring them, but either way, after this scare, that family would likely be too frightened to cause trouble again.
It was quite a… high-handed move.
Qiao Wanqing couldn’t help but worry about what she would do if she encountered such troublemakers when she opened her own shop.
These people were bullies, using the guise of seeking advantage.
Normal methods really wouldn’t work against them.
For starters, she definitely needed to hire some strong and intimidating assistants to keep them at bay.
After cleaning up the mess of vegetables they had thrown around, Qiao Wanqing was preparing to head home when she noticed another car approaching from afar.
She recognized the car—it belonged to someone who had been missing for over half a month.
The car door opened, and Gu Yanqing waved at her first before opening the rear door and carrying someone out from inside.
“Qiao Auntie!” Yuan Yuan saw her and happily ran over.
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
Her first thought was, had Yuan Yuan’s parents had another falling out?!
Yuan Yuan hurriedly came up to her, and Qiao Wanqing pushed aside her chaotic thoughts, lifting him up and smiling as she tousled his soft hair. “It’s been so long. Yuan Yuan, you’ve grown taller again.”
Yuan Yuan beamed proudly. “I can finish a whole bowl of rice now.”
Qiao Wanqing, having a son of her own, understood well how children loved praise.
She exclaimed in admiration, “That’s amazing! Yuanyuan will definitely grow very tall.”
Yuan Yuan smiled happily and then shyly kissed her on the cheek.
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
At that moment, Gu Yanqing walked over from the trunk of the car and happened to see Yuan Yuan kissing Qiao Wanqing.
His expression immediately turned serious. “Yuan Yuan, you can’t just kiss people like that. It’s impolite.”
“But I like Auntie Qiao. Why can’t I kiss her? Mom said kissing means you really like someone,” Yuan Yuan innocently explained.
Gu Yanqing mentally noted Yan Yan’s mom and patiently explained, “Auntie Qiao is a girl. Girls shouldn’t be kissed casually. Just like how in kindergarten, you shouldn’t kiss the girls you like in your class, okay?”
Yan Yan replied, “But I don’t like them. They’re the ones who want to kiss me.”
Qiao Wanqing stifled a laugh as she listened to their conversation.
Yuan Yuan, being such an adorable boy, must be very popular in kindergarten.
Though she was inwardly pleased to have earned the approval of the main male character, Qiao Wanqing, she quickly intervened when she saw Gu Yanqing about to lecture Yuan Yuan further. “It’s just a little kiss, not that serious.”
Yuan Yuan is only five years old, a little kid.
Qiao Wanqing treats him like a precious little doll, giving him lots of hugs and kisses, which is completely normal.
Gu Yanqing said calmly, “I’m jealous.”
“…” Qiao Wanqing blushed a bit when teased like this in front of a child.
But Yuan Yuan didn’t understand what it meant to be jealous.
He tilted his head and asked, “Uncle, when did you eat vinegar? I didn’t smell anything.”
Worried that Gu Yanqing might say something inappropriate, Qiao Wanqing quickly hugged Yuan Yuan and started walking home. “Your uncle is just joking. Pay no attention to him.”
Seeing Qiao Wanqing fleeing, Gu Yanqing chuckled softly.
He picked up the vegetables Qiao Wanqing had just gathered and glanced at her messy vegetable garden nearby.
Feeling a pang in his heart, he quickly caught up with her and asked, “Is someone causing trouble again?”
“Not exactly, just some issues with Boss Cai from the agritainment place,” Qiao Wanqing explained briefly.
Gu Yanqing frowned. “This place of yours seems to attract a lot of trouble.”
“That’s how it is when you’re in shallow waters, there are bound to be turtles.”
Gu Yanqing nodded, finding some truth in her words.
As they talked, they arrived home.
When Kuokuo saw his beloved dad coming, he was overjoyed and refused to let go when his dad picked him up.
Seeing how much his son missed him, Gu Yanqing felt both happy and a bit sad.
He decided that no matter how busy he was, he would make time to visit him more often.
Kuokuo still wore the little flower crown Qiao Wanqing made for him on his head.
When he saw his dad, he reached up to touch his flower crown. Gu Yanqing gently took it off and said, “Baby, shall we not wear this anymore?”
“Dad, dad!” Koukou kept pushing Gu Yanqing’s hand that held the flower crown, happily calling out to him.
Thinking Koukou wanted him to move it, Gu Yanqing casually placed the flower crown on a nearby wooden table.
“Nah, nah!” Koukou saw Gu Yanqing put it down and immediately became unhappy.
He reached out towards the flower crown, clearly wanting it.
Gu Yanqing handed the flower crown to him. “Do you want to play with this, baby?”
Koukou didn’t know how to express himself with words yet.
He held up the small flower crown and said to Gu Yanqing, “Dad—dad.”
“Hmm, what is it, sweetheart?”
Seeing his dad didn’t quite understand what he meant, Koukou became frustrated.
He couldn’t say the word he wanted, so he just kept calling “dad.”
Gu Yanqing understood and lowered his head.
Sure enough, Koukou happily tried to put the flower crown on his head, but he wasn’t very skillful yet—he could only use his little hands to push, not to actually put it on.
“Koukou wants to put it on dad.”
The flower crown was too small for Gu Yanqing to wear, but when he lifted his head, it didn’t fall off.
It was quite funny.
Seeing his dad wearing it, Koukou clapped his hands happily and in his soft baby voice said, “Pretty, pretty.”
Gu Yanqing understood now.
His son was saying he looked handsome.
He chuckled and rubbed his son’s head. How could there be such an adorable child!
After dinner, Yuan Yuan and Koukou played with building blocks in the house.
Koukou didn’t know how to build with blocks yet, but he loved watching Yuan Yuan build for him.
Unlike other children who might mess things up for fun, Koukou didn’t disturb the carefully built blocks.
If he got bored, he would find something else to do or play with his favorite toys.
“So even the big villain had good manners when he was little.”
Gu Yanqing sorted out the things he brought over.
Besides Koukou’s clothes, toys, and milk powder, which were essential, he also brought gifts for Grandma Qiao and gifts Qiao Wanqing had bought.
Qiao Wanqing came in from washing dishes outside and saw Yuan Yuan and Koukou cooperating to build with blocks.
Yuan Yuan was building while Koukou passed him the blocks.
Koukou didn’t know which block Yuan Yuan needed next, so he passed them randomly. Yuan Yuan patiently corrected him when he got it wrong and showed him the right one.
Koukou didn’t understand shapes yet, so he just picked up blocks one by one as Yuan Yuan pointed at them.
When Yuan Yuan nodded in approval, Koukou would be very happy and would lean in for Yuan Yuan to kiss him.
The two of them worked together like this to build a small castle, taking quite a while just to lay the foundation.
Seeing Yuan Yuan kiss Koukou on the cheek, Qiao Wanqing rubbed her forehead and moved next to Gu Yanqing.
She asked quietly, “How are Yuan Yuan’s parents?”
“From Yuan Yuan’s reaction, they seem to be doing alright,” Gu Yanqing said, handing her a small box. “This is for you.”
Qiao Wanqing hesitated to take it, and as Gu Yanqing expected, she opened the box herself.
Inside was a platinum necklace with a beautifully designed pendant adorned with a sparkling diamond, clearly quite expensive.
Looking at Qiao Wanqing, Gu Yanqing said, “Should I put it on you, or will you do it yourself?”
Qiao Wanqing didn’t fall for it. “I choose option C—don’t wear it.”
Gu Yanqing stepped closer. “Come on, give me some face in front of the kids.”
Qiao Wanqing instinctively glanced at Yuan Yuan and Koukou, but found the two little ones had stopped playing with blocks and were staring at them with their bright eyes.
Qiao Wanqing: “…”
