Chapter 2
When Lin Kexin returned home, the house was empty. At this time, Wang Cuihua and her husband had gone to work, and Lin Tianci had gone to school.
She first went to the kitchen, grabbed a hard, dry biscuit from the basket, and nibbled on it. She drank a bowl of cold water to ease the emptiness in her stomach.
After eating until she was half full, Lin Kexin went straight back to her small, shabby room. Calling it “shabby” was an understatement—it was really just a storage space in the Lin household.
She went straight to the bed, lifted the worn-out quilt, and took out a tightly wrapped handkerchief from underneath.
She opened the handkerchief and took out a half-broken jade pendant, which didn’t look very valuable.
This pendant had been found by Wang Cuihua when she took Lin Kexin in as a baby. At the time, Wang Cuihua had brought the pendant to several jewelry stores to ask its value. After being told it wasn’t worth much, she hung it around Lin Kexin’s neck—and it had stayed there for over a decade.
Last year, when fourteen-year-old Lin Tianci liked a girl at school, it happened to be her birthday. He asked Wang Cuihua for money to buy her a gift, but she refused.
Children teasingly, without certainty that this girl would be his future wife, Wang Cuihua was adamant about not spending money on such a thing.
With no other options, Lin Tianci turned his attention to the jade pendant around Lin Kexin’s neck.
Lin Kexin, of course, could not resist him and had no choice but to give him the pendant.
Later, that girl rejected the pendant, saying it was ugly, and returned it to Lin Tianci.
Feeling humiliated by the pendant in front of the girl he liked, Lin Tianci threw it at Lin Kexin’s face and cursed her for being “worthless.”
The once-whole pendant broke into two pieces and could no longer be worn. Lin Kexin carefully stored the broken jade under the quilt.
“Does having you mean I can find my biological parents?”
Lin Kexin murmured to herself, gently tracing the shape of the pendant with her fingers.
“Shh—”
In a careless moment, the jagged edge of the broken jade cut her finger. Blood immediately stained the pendant. Before she could withdraw her hand, a sharp pain struck her head.
When she opened her eyes again, she found herself standing in a desolate wilderness. She broke into a cold sweat in fright.
She cautiously moved her feet, looking around the deserted surroundings. There was nothing in sight except a small lake nearby and endless stretches of black soil.
Covering her rapidly beating heart with her hands, Lin Kexin slowly walked forward.
She wandered for a long time but could find no exit. Feeling parched, she went to the lake.
The water was clear and pure, with no weeds or creatures, and faint ripples spread across the surface. Under the blue sky and white clouds, it seemed almost mystical.
She cupped some water in her hands and drank.
It was sweet and refreshing, the quality pristine. Lin Kexin couldn’t help but drink a few more sips.
Her gaze fell on what seemed to be a stone tablet at her feet. She quickly stood back, wiped off the dust, and the inscription became clear:
“Spatial Spirit Spring, fertile land for ten thousand acres. Any descendant who obtains it can control it with their thoughts!”
Lin Kexin whispered the words, eyes widening.
A space? A spirit spring? Fertile land?
In her previous life, besides doing business, her greatest passion was reading novels and watching suspenseful films. She had always envied people with special abilities.
Now, not only had she been given a second chance at life, but she also gained a space!
Excited, she suppressed her emotions and closed her eyes, testing it.
“Go out!”
When she opened her eyes, she was back in the storage room. She looked at her palm—no sign of the broken jade, and the cut on her finger had healed miraculously.
“Could this space have been created from the broken jade?”
Puzzled, she tried entering and exiting several times until she mastered the method.
She even tried moving items from the storage room into the space with her mind. As expected, any object her hand touched would instantly enter the space. To retrieve items, she only needed to will them back.
With this space, she would never go hungry or cold again. Even if she went to the countryside, she could live comfortably.
Thrilled, Lin Kexin imagined the fertile land inside and started searching the storage room for seeds.
After rummaging through, she only found a handful of moldy soybeans.
Curious, she threw them into the black soil of the space and used her mind to water them with the spirit spring.
Eager for more seeds, she decided to visit the supply store. At Wang Cuihua’s house, she casually took a wad of money from under her bed—eight hundred eighty-six yuan, plus some loose bills.
Without hesitation, she took fifty yuan and some loose change and ran to the store.
It was October, and the store mainly sold wheat and new corn seeds.
She bought thirty yuan worth of wheat seeds and twenty yuan of corn seeds. Before leaving, she glanced at the peanut and soybean seeds and murmured,
“Wait for me. I’ll come back for you next time!”
Back home, she entered the space and planted all the wheat and corn seeds. There was so much land in the space that these seeds barely made a dent—but it was better than nothing.
She stayed in the space until evening, watching her plants sprout and grow before her eyes.
It was so miraculous that even her rebirth paled in comparison.
After exiting, Lin Kexin went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. It was simple: a pot of millet porridge, a few corn cakes, and a stir-fried vegetable dish.
As the food was served, Wang Cuihua and Lin Jianguo returned, and Lin Tianci was the last to come home.
The family of four ate quietly, each with their own thoughts. Lin Kexin knew that after dinner, Lin Jianguo would bring up the countryside trip—her name had already been submitted.
After the meal, Lin Kexin began clearing the dishes, but Lin Jianguo stopped her.
“Kexin, sit down. I have something to tell you!”
